Really puts things in perspective.

Reading that article left my insides shaking down to the marrow. That injury must've hurt so bad. Imagine snapping or breaking your neck and living and being paralyzed. I feel nausous.

They said the stress on his spine was the equivalent of 2/3 Ton. He has movement in his arms and legs, meaning he has some chance to walk again. That's an upgrade over the news yesterday.

...this is the sort of thing I bring up when people who don't know sports complain that they make too much money. RBs have head trauma for the rest of their lives. It was once calculated, on average, how many months/years a player's life is shortened from every year in the NFL. For long-time lineman and RBs, it was well over 5 years. And then you have things like this. Unfortunate, but part of the danger of the sport...and proof that it goes well beyond entertainment and not all salaries are unecessarily high.

We see something similar every few years. Is it rare? Absolutely. But we can all remember at least 2-3 other instances like this one if we've been following football for the last 10 years or so. Not all are spine-related of course, but career-ending injuries happen relatively frequently.

The problem is that he may be paralyzed from the neck down. That may be the worst that could happen to a player sans dying. Watched that game, nice comeback by the Broncos. Jay Cutler is steadily improving.

Chris Benoit did what he did because of the punishment he took in the ring.

Athletes probably need more protection.

Though that's not a factor in why they are paid what they are paid.

They get what they are worth. It's a business. If they pay the players more than they should, the team lose money.

If it was in their best interests to pay them $20,000 a year, the health aspect would go out the window.

Irvin and Aikman both gone on injuries and I think Irvin was done because of an neck injury.

Kevin Everett just may walk out of the hospital. He has movement in his arms and legs. I truly hope he does walk out of the hospital.

Yeah, Irvin did retire because of a neck injury.

I'm glad he has shown improvement, miracle? I hope he is able to walk again, his career is over but I doubt anyone is thinking about that. If I were ever paralyzed from the neck down, pull the plug because I don't want to live like that, hell, I wouldn't even want to go on if it were from the waist down. Seeing and hearing about things like this makes me want to stop playing tackle football altogether.
