SNK has Yamazaki using knives, Capcom has Cody Travers. Although Yama was the first to actually use knives in a fighting game, Cody is the first in videogames to actually fight with a knife.

A gifted Street Fighter, Cody is very adept at knife fighting. His childhood friend and current girlfriend is Jessica, who is the daughter of Mike Haggar. Mayor of Metro City (It's actual New York) and former Pro wrestler. One day Cody is told by Haggar that Jessica has been kidnapped by Mad Gear! He sets off to save his friend since childhood and now girlfriend. With the help of his Rival/Sparring partner/ Best Friend Guy, and of course Haggar too.

He hears about Mad Gear member Damnd being the one who kidnapped her, and decidest to head to the slums of Metro City to find him. Damnd tells her that he's too late and that he thought Cody got scared and ran away. Cody defeated him, but doesn't manage to find Jessica. Somewhere along the line, Cody found out that Jessica was being held by Belger in the Uptown area of Metro City. He then hit the Westside of Metro City, where he ran into a cop who was also a member of Mad Gear. Disgusted by how corrupt Metro City is to the point where even a policeman would join Mad Gear, Cody ended up defeating him, too.

However, no one knew that deep down Cody wanted to fight so badly that he had reached a point where he didn't even care about the cost. During one of Kyle's fights Cody disappears for a while and while coming back to meet Kyle, is ambushed. Once Kyle is knocked out Cody is given no alternative but go along with the bad guys as they threaten to kill Kyle. I've finally gotten the details as to what happens in Final Fight: streetwise. All of the following is canon as far as I know. I could be wrong though and I still have a lot of cross referring to do. But thus far, this is what happens:

Cody starts taking the drugs and starts fighting in the pits again. He is over the moon when he realizes he can fight freely again and given his caliber as a fighter and the steroid like effects of "glow", Cody starts winning big time. However Vito, who was the one managing these fights in the Italian part of Metro City, realizes that Cody is 'dirty' and so kicks him out. Cody in the mean time already starts losing his sanity because of the side effects of glow and already the changes in his features are apparent with having glowing green eyes and hulking up. Being an addictive drug, Cody winds up taking more and more of the drug till he goes out of control and too dangerous to be free.

Guy, who is running the Japan part of South Town, eventually finds Cody and with the help of his "gang" members captures the mentally unsteady Cody. Cody's last stint in jail was actually because of Guy. Cody took the fall for a crime Guy was a part of (this is the reason why Guy had been missing from the Bushin world. For a reason never stated, he too changed and fell as a warrior and became a crook. However, he does protect to keep the city peaceful with the help of his gang and is overall respected in Metro City...not just as one of it's best fighters but also otherwise). Cody takes the fall for Guy as he didn't want Guy to be disgraced. Back to the story, guy locks Cody up and later after a series of erroneous fights with Kyle on the basis of misunderstanding and over cockiness from Kyle (that ended with Kyle shitting in his pants when Guy shows him his power and speed) Guy shows the deranged Cody to Kyle. Kyle is shocked beyond belief and immediately sets out to destroy those who did this to his brother. Cody meanwhile goes out of control and becomes too strong to hold back. He breaks free and disappears.

Later as Kyle faces Bella (who is actually Belger's brother) on top of the church. Bella introduces his final and toughest member of "The Four Horsemen", Death. To Kyle's shock it turns out to be Cody who is now completely under the effects of glow. Hulked up, mindless and full of brute power 'Cody Death' attacks Kyle. Kyle tries to talk sense into Cody, but seeing that it is fruitless, starts fighting 'Cody Death'. He eventually gains the upper hand only for Cody Death to come back even stronger.

Cody and Kyle continue to fight but eventually Cody Death, despite the effects of the drug, starts remembering Kyle and winds up in a mental conflict. Kyle takes this opportunity to knock Cody Death out and then goes after Bella. 'Cody Death' comes to eventually and attacks Kyle again but again the mental struggle continues in him. In the fray, Cody Death gets shot by Bella as he fights Kyle. Pissed, Kyle attacks Bella but is having a hard time since Bella fights with a sword and a machine gun. Out of the blue, Cody Death emerges and charges Bella and tackles him. They both fall down from the high roof of the church (i guess Cody has a thing for sending the Belger brothers off tall places, lol). Cody Death, wounded, shot, beaten up and now the fall, is unconscious. Bella comes to and crawls towards his gun so as to end Cody's life and get revenge for what Cody did to his brother. However, before he can pick it up, Kyle picks it up and shoots him in the head.

Later Cody and Kyle are both in the hospital. Vanessa, Kyle's err...special someone, comes to visit them later on and Kyle recovers but Cody is still in the hospital. Cody actually fights off the effects of the drug better than anyone else and is in fact back to normal. What is more, Cody's knees feel better than ever and he can't wait to kick some ass...and neither can we. Go Cody!

You're welcome Sado22, anytime. Cody might be busting in somemore heads by now seeing that he was so looking forward to fighting again and that his knees felt better than they ever did. I feel that he might have gained some new abilities and moves from the glo affect too.

Oh yeah man!!! Cody is most definitely gangsta. I mean, he's addicted to fighting and he'll fight anyone, he got arrested multiple times, he broke out of jail multiple times, he loves using knives, he fights dirty, he took a super drug, knocked a crime boss out the window, an escape convict, beats the crap out of you if you piss him off, and he doesn't mind fighting in handcuffs and can take them off whenever he wants. Now how gangsta is that.

I saw that pic a long time ago in a magazine. That's a pretty cool pic, even though it's missing Guy. But at least it shows Cody.

Yeah, Guy should've been in the pic too, but I do agree with you that it's a really cool pic still though. Also, I think around SFA3 that Cody could match up to Ryu at that time(I think since they were younger at the time). Surely, Cody has gotten alot stronger after the events of the first Final Fight.

What is even more hilarious is that the police don't even try and stop'im. They just like, "Phuck it". Dude has some funny phuckin' lines in SSFIV, too.

^That, and he has one of the few particularly good english voices (with, incidentally, a really terrible JP voice). Supposedley he's voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch (Nero, Ichigo Kurosaki, Vash the Stampede, Lelouch), who happens to be one of my favorites.

Anyway, upon purchasing SSFIV a few weeks ago, Cody became one of my two favorite newcomers within the first couple of hours. As of now, I have about four characters that I play religiously (Fei Long, Ryu, Cody, and Dudley), and I'm giving most of the rest of the cast

I love Cody. His theme is the best in the entire game. His backstory is actually interesting and not cliche. And he has the best taunt in the game.

Played Super Street Fighter 4 for the first time the other day. I picked Cody first and never turned back.

One can find a trendsetter in the most unlikely of places. Such is in the case of Mr. Travers. Sure in most Beat em Ups the good guy usually hawks the knife at the baddie and vice versa, but my namesake is the first to shank the shit out of memorable baddies like Damnd, the Andore clan and Poison, thus backing up the fact that he is a knife fighter. Rolento, Ryuji Yamazaki and Kano would follow with knife based attacks. Also from Capcom, Leon Kennedy and Jack Krauser show off their knife skills in RE4 (which is being rereleased onto the PS3), as does Claire Redfield. Jill Valentine and Sheva Alomar attempt this, but given as to they are facing against, it doesn't go well for them.

hey what happened first street fighter alpha 3 or ffsw? cause i was always under the impression it was ffsw and than alpha 3.

Alpha 3 occured first cronologically. Afterall, in Streetwise, he is aged.
