Awareness of a spiritual dimension

Putting aside the question of whether a spiritual dimension of life exists, what exactly are the repercussions that such beliefs have on society?

I'm talking strictly about social impact. For example, in the case of the devil, what difference does it make in society if people believe in a devil? Does it matter what version of a devil they believe in? Is it better to think of a devil as an individual or as a force of evil?

Questions like that...

dunno, ive never seen into a spiritual dimension or had a personal paronormal expirience. i do think its good to not take the stereotypical view and term sumthing as black or white. its also reductionist and unrealistic to blame everything on one single entity like the devil.

Mythology is a way for a society to understand truths that cannot be easily understood. Like for example the devil; bad things happen to people that seem to be out of their control, the belief in a devil helps put these events into perspective, and control to the community even if it is a false perspective.

The devil is only ourselves.

nah no horns no claws, must be some yankee thing then

No, it's universal. 🙄

nah yankee thingie, just like Mcdonalds

McDonalds is like hell.

I take Mcdonalds over comunion any day though

But that's wine!! 😱

guess this jesus was a poor poor wine maker then

That's cause beer tastes like piss.

an awareness of one does not influence it. morals are given by your personnel experiences. now if religion comes up in a discussion then yea it would, otherwise 75 % of the time i dont really think it would

If a person has an awareness then it's only from their experience of it. Others really cannot comment on it since they do not have an awareness.

Not to be rude or anything, but I can't understand the parts of your sentence that I've underlined in the quote. Could you redo it? At least add the quote of whatever you are responding to.

I don't understand the question.

a dimension is an axis within the physical universe. spiritual implies something not physical, made of matter. Am I wrong in finding the term spiritual-dimension to be an oxymoron? Something that is not physical, made of matter but at the same time is an entire axis of the physical universe?

You have to look past stupidity to get to the heart of the question. 😉

seems like one has to do that more and more on here. I think it would be great if Raz or someone posted a link to www.m-w.com in the board's heading..........so any would-be posters could actually look up the terms of any discussion they wish to initiate. A thread about spritiual-planes makes alot more sense than a thread about spiritual-dimensions.

I don't feel the word spiritual is speaking of matter. Spirit isn't matter at all, what ever it is. A dimension may not be physical at all.
