Killer Scene
"You can do what you want, but it'll come... It'll consume us, eat us slowly from the inside out. Brothers against Brothers, Friend against Friend. You cannot escape it, you cannot kill it. The dark is rising."
This is but one of the legends of which the people speak...
Long ago, a great evil swept across this land, and it... possessed people. Turned them on their families. Ate them, not their physical bodies, but their soul, until they were nothing more than a hollow shell, with basic instincts: Hunt, and eat. The disease... The plague ravaged our lands for years, until one faithful day...
A hero rose from the rubble. Pure of heart, soul, and mind, he was impervious to the evil that had now consumed almost all of the world's population. This hero.. This legend, he fought through hordes of demons, through Hell, until he finally reached the heart of the great Darkness. With a shining blade, a blade so fearsome in the eyes of Darkness, our hero struck the Darkness so valiantly, so courageously...
And yet...
Our hero's ways were in vain. Luckily... Just barely, our hero was able to escape. The evil was apparently too strong for any mortal man to strike down. So, the remaining survivors prayed to the Gods.
"O' have mercy on us!" They pleaded. And as if in the blink of an eye, the survivor's prayers were answered. Down came our hero, once more. This time, he was aglow with power... The power no mortal man could attain. This time, our hero struck the Darkness, and it cried out in agony. Soon, the plague was found absolutely nowhere in the world. The empty shells who had killed so many, returned to their normal state.
Except...
Except for the hero.
His body was encased in an ancient stone, so strong no hammer could break it. And there, with his sword raised heroically in the air, our hero was frozen in time.
The legend states that a new hero, or even heroes, will rise once again in the time of our greatest need, and go on an adventer so perilous, some might not even survive. Across the Great Seas, across the Deadly Sands of Ahk' Muuntan, they will travel, and once again pierce the souless Darkness, and bring peace to Sainhall.
Sadly... This legend has been lost to time, and age. It now survives only in the small town of Algara, known only to the Village Elder.
Setting: Set in the ancient world of Sainhall. The area surrounding includes:
Algara: A rural village just outside of the Sang Wai Kingdom territory. Agriculture rests on farming and hunting. At the age of twelve, young boys are taken on their first hunting trip, after preparing most of their lives. If they return successfully, they are considered men. If not, they must repeat the ceremony only once every year, until they finally return with a kill.
The Eastern Kingdom: A Kingdom shrouded in mystery. No soul has ever dared set foot into the Kingdom's territory, for fear of ancient magic and curses. As well, no one has ever met anyone from the Eastern Kingdom, and if they saw anyone coming from it, they'd most likely kill them on site.
Jo' Tal: A busy, commerce. The capital of Sainhall, and the house of King Roslin. Mostly deals with trading, and shipping, seeing as how it is located right on the edge of the Great Seas.
The Great Seas: A cast expanse of water. Plain and simple. It's used mainly as a mode of transport, as it feeds all of the rivers in Sainhall. Nobody has traversed this Sea, but a few of the Great Sailors, and of course, the Hero himself.
Ahk' Muuntan: Translated into 'Sea of Sand', Ahk' Muuntan is just that. As far as the eye can see, no sign of vegetation or water. Just bleak sand dunes. The Town Elder in Algara claims to have walked into the desert on a dare, only to collapse about twenty feet out, as if the heat is intensified as soon as you step foot into it.
The Unkown: The uncharted regions on the map. From the rest of the Eastern Kingdom, so the edges of the Great Sea, and far beyond Ahk' Muuntan, the Unkown is said to carry creatures of legend... Even the Darkness itself.
Other Cities:
Ta'K Nun: A seafaring village near the border of the Eastern Kingdom on the Great Seas.
Lo'k Na: Ritualistic society, based on sacrifices and a bizzare religion. They worship a giant crow, usually depicted having intestines, worms, eyeballs, or other icky things in it's mouth.
Rashan: Set right in the middle of Sainhall, Rashan is sunny, peaceful, and is known for producing almost all of Jo' Tal's medicine, and nurses/doctors. Magical healers are said to live here, as well.
Mi' Nan: Located in the Misty Mountains(real original name, right?) to the north, Mi' Nan is known for many of the archers in the Jo' Tal military. It's a warfaring society, and rather large, seeing as how it dominated many of the lower cities, and combined them to form a mini-kingdom.
Sunan: The Elven kingdom. Elves are graceful, and beautiful, but keep to themselves. Any elf that leaves Sunan, is usually shunned from ever coming back, unless it's the Royal Messenger. Few have ever seen the elves, but all have heard of them.
