Psionic energy?

What exactly is psionic energy in the marvel universe or DC even? As far as I know in marvel psionic energy takes different forms. It can be formed into concussive blasts, it can be formed into a mental blast and apparently can be formed into electromagnetic energy.

What about telekinesis? Ive heard the actual matter that enables psionics to do telekinesis is ectoplasm....or is it just psionic energy in another form?

Whats the difference between magic and psionic?

Anyway discuss.

One is mystical. The other is mental.

Symmetric Chaos
One is based on uses per day while the other expends "power points".

Oh wait, in Marvel?

Psionics involves the "hidden power of the mind," whereas magic involves "supernatural" forces.

Psionics seems to involve more "broad stroke" effects, whereas magic can apparently conjure up finer nuance.

Psionics does not so much disregard the laws of physics as "scientifically" circumvent them, whereas magic is more of an "anything goes" scenario.

Psionics activate with a thought; magic you need fancy-shmancy incantations and gestures.

Psionics seems to involve more invisible energies, whereas magic has lots of special FX.

Just a few observations.

(Personally, I see them as the same: "psiconsciousness," or awareness of quantum wavefunctions, allowing one to invoke a particular outcome, however improbable.)

EDIT (I hit the quote button instead of the edit on the previous post). Sorry for the double post, lads.

Yes but from my understanding magic training often involves training the mind first. It seems in order to be good at magic you need a strong mind. Thats why it seems that Dr Strange has psionic powers and magical powers as well.

I blame fictional writers for not applying the proper research. Thus add improper use or misinterpretation of the word (or in our case ability/power).

You can say that again....annoying.

Dr. Strange said something interesting about Psionic Energy and Magic in X-Men First Class. Don't have the time at the moment but I'll post you the scan when I get back.

Xavier was able to interupt Magneto's magnetic machine field with his Psi-Powers because the energies were thought to be similar.

Psi-Energy can be used as a physical force or a mental one.

1 second real life = an extremely long time on the psychic plane.

Xavier and Lilandra communicate over light years with no lag via telepathic means.

IRRC One of Exodus's powers is to drain psionic energy...which was thought back then to be the life force of a being.

Psionic Lightning can be created by taking the ambient psionic energy in the atmosphere and manipulating it into a lightning bolt.

Yes please. yes

It was actually Xavier who said it...but here there are. They were in a mystical realm and their powers worked slightly different here eg Iceman was amped However their base powersets remained the same. Jean had her psi powers, Scott has his beams, Angel his wings etc..

As for TK and TP. Both are different applications of psi energy that's why a lot of telepaths who only have pure TP as a powerset have shown to use TK on occasions.(Emma and Xavier) I think Beast also told X-Man that the border between TK and TP was very close.
