Can you love someone that you have never met in the flesh?

CaptainStoic
I was wondering if it is possible to truly love someone that you have never met in the flesh. Does anyone out there have any input on the subect? Has this ever happened to you?

chillmeistergen
There's a lot to be said for actual real conversation.

CaptainStoic
And what if you actually have spoken, and heard the other persons voice? What then? What happens if you have seen them as well, just not in person, but on camera?

chillmeistergen
I personally, can't have that sort of relationship, I know that people can and good on 'em.

But to me the best bits about the beginning of a relationship, are everything from getting butterflies, to walking with each other, to watching films, etc. I'm a person that needs to be around people a lot, and just talking on the phone, or on the net isn't enough.

Violent2Dope
I personally can't, at least not in the boyfriend/girlfriend kinda way if that's what you meant.

Darth Macabre
Sure, why not? If by way of the Internet you've exchanged pictures, have had conversations, and have talked on the phone, I don't see why you can't.

Strangelove
I voted no, even though you phrased the option quite poorly.

SelphieT
I have a close friend that's currently doing the long distance relationship, and apparently it's working very well for them, and they've been dating ever since last Valentine's Day.

I don't think I could love them, but I think anyone can get at least certain feelings for someone far away. And I'll admit I have before.

Rogue Jedi
yes, I love several people I have never met in the flesh. you fall in love with the person they are, not the way they look.

Shelbert Lemon
Yes its possible.

Kram3r
I believe it's possibly to love someone you haven't met in the flesh purely by conversation and such. However, that kind of stuff isn't for me. I need to be with that person in the flesh. It feels more real to me that way, otherwise it doesn't feel like a relationship. I put it in this sense basically, all I can really do over long distance is say how much I yearn that person how much I love them, etc. I'm limited to saying things, and that disappoints me because if it were a physical one I would be able to do much more. So basically, for me, long distance relationships aren't really for me.

I'd rather she loved me for me, or failing that my black stereotype in my jeans. Move over Prof. Watson.

ragesRemorse
Yes i think its possible but very rare. Love in general is a hard thing to find. sometimes when people have the internet, phone or mail to rely on. They take on a more confident persona that is not truly their personality, but whom they want to be. honesty and physical attraction are the two things i believe that allow a relationship to persist. If you are able to be truly honest over communication outlets then sure, you can fall in love with that person. Understanding whether you legitimitely love that person or the idea of that person is hard to identify though.

Or course that would be ideal, loving you for you. If she would only love you for the "large penis" stereotype though, she'd probably be intelligent enough to not give you the time of day, due to your other black stereotype. The abandoning her and walking out on your responsibilities once she was pregnant.

I was waiting for you to accuse me of that. No I don't belittle Jamaicans. I belittle a system that prevents the majority of them having enough of a stake in society to act in a fashion we would call appropriate. When they move from Jamaica to the U.S.A. many bring with them the problems they had in Jamaica. I pray for them.

It's not all jamaican men either, merely those that come from poverty and have been socialised that way. Given appropriate education and quality of life they would gain a normal morality, like any other white or black individual given those advantages. In the end it's all about economics.

I don't believe so. People are different and for some it might be entirely possible.

I don't understand how someone can love someone they've never met. Having a crush on them or wanting to bang them is perfectly understandable, but not loving them.

If anything, I'd classify it as infatuation or the illusion of love.

Sigh well this has happened to me twice, and both times I wasn't looking for it, mind you. Both times, when I realised what was happening, I tried to avoid it, but in the end, my feelings won me over. Best to just go with it and see where it leads you.

You totally hit the nail on the head bro. I met a woman online that is in love with me, and I love her too she asked me to marry her... I accepted, I know it seems crazy but sometimes you have to gamble in life right?

Can anyone that reads this dig down really deep, and ask themselves what the definition of love is to them? I mean what is love? Is it the pleasure of sex? The arguments? Is it how much you are willing to sacrifice for the person that you love? By the way instead of the word flesh that I used was simpler to use, as I thought that everyone would get the picture.

I have never been so afraid in my life of meeting someone, than I am of meeting what could truly be my wife in the future. This is a picture of her. We also talk daily and I see her too via webcam, but it feels like a prison sentence. You know what I mean? Like I'm on one side of the glass and she is on the other. In January I'll see her in person for the first time. Anyways it's taken a lot of courage to let everyone see what she looks like, but whatever.

Sadako of Girth
Relating to the question on this thread.

Yes. Instantly.

But its only cause falling in love is what we biologically do to convince ourselves that all the hassle and pain (both ways) in a relationship might be worth it or that we shouldn't feel guilty for all the disgusting acts of unhygenicness and the arguments so vicious that it illustrates how screwed up a lot of peoples perceptions of love are if thats how they treat each other...

Falling in love is more or less like a permission slip we give ourselves to go totally mad and turn all the power over to someone in life and unneccesarily live at constant risk of being ****ed over.

When you fall instantly in love, is it a coincidence that as you are attracted to someone and fall in love, that your logic-dealing part of your brain is surpressed at that time. I think not.

But then Im the romantic type at the moment.
