I don't have a top 10 list, but I thought The Exorcist was pretty scary.

Comicbook_kid
For someone who has never really gotten into horror and hasn't seen hardly any really good horror films, then the top 10 absolutely crucial films I'd have to recommend would be....

1. The Exorcist

2. Dawn of the Dead (original)

3. Halloween (original)

4. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)

5. A Nightmare on Elm Street

6. The Evil Dead

7. The Shining

8. An American Werewolf in London

9. Night of the Living Dead (original)

10. Tie : Hellraiser / Phantasm (either one)

There's so many more I could name, but I feel these 10 classics are some of the absolute very best horror films ever to grace the screen and would make any horror fan proud to recommend...

Doesn't matter. Jaws scared the entire world, whether they admit it or not. Jaws scared the world.

What movie can boast such?

Neo Darkhalen
Jaws did scare, EVERYONE, I doubt there has been, or will be a film that can create that sort of terror, hats of to Steven Spielberg, he really can make a rubber fish, the scariest thing in the world.

I was referring to "Ju-On: The Grudge." It is a classic.

And Cabin Fever may not be very well done but it's story is strongly associated with some dark realities of life.

A very dangerous bacteria called "Necrotizing Fasciitus" exists and it is actually termed as the flesh eating bacteria because it can eat skin and flesh of its victims alive. Hence the story of this movie focuses on a terrifying but invisible enemy like that bacteria.

And during times of danger, chaos and anarchy; people often don't act nicely due to selfishness and fear and reveal their true colors. Hence the characters shown in the movie represent such people.

So I recommend Cabin Fever to all horror fans because it is different from traditional horror movies.

Neo Darkhalen
Fair enough.

Hey folks, I've been busy with school and stuff over the last few years, and honestly I have not bothered watching alot of movies, all I've seen is a couple series. and to be honest I've not seen a proper horror movie for years.

So this other day I just got this urge to see some good horror movies.

But I don't know which once to watch, and im not about to do as I used to back 5 years ago or so, back then I just watched any horror film I could lay my hands on and just hoped it was good, I don't have time for that anymore.

So I am going to ask the proper folks in the KMC horror division for some recommendations smile

I would like to point out that I do not want any japanese horror movies, it just dosen't do it for me imafraid.

Anything else is very much appriciated, I like anything from sci-fi horror to good ol slashers smile

So name me some nice horror movies that have come out over the last 2-3 years big grin

P.S It's nice to see your still running these horror boards with passion BF! wink

MildPossession
The Descent

Them/Ils

The Orphanage

Haute Tension

Inside - French horror

Martyrs - Don't know when it is out, but it has been given the highest rating possible in France(18+)
That is apparently like an NC-17 in America.

It might be to do with scenes of torture involving a child, read that somewhere.

Things like Irreversible got a lower rating of 16! So 16+ could see it in cinemas. So keep an eye out for release dates.

According to the filmmakers the violence in the film is no worse than in a lot of 16+ films that come out in France.

It's suppose to be good. There are some teaser trailers out at the moment but they don't give much away.

Okay?

BackFire
Yeah, that's pretty much everything.

I'd also say Funny Games. I know a lot of people, MP included, didn't like it. But I thought it was very strong and quite disturbing.

Also, for a more extreme experience, the August Underground films are worth a look.

MildPossession
Have you seen the original BackFire?

I think instead of giving the credit to the remake, people should watch the original first if you haven't seen the original. If you've seen the remake and want to see the original then you don't get the same effect, especially the rewind with the remote scene, first time I saw that in the original it made me really really angry that the villains could do that lol. Think the original deserves to have that effect instead of the remake.

BackFire
Are they actually any different? I've heard that they're identical outside of the actors and the language. And from what I understand the acting is better in the remake.

I'm going to see the original, though. I had them both on my netflix queue, but for some reason they sent the remake before the original.

Either way, I thought the American version was very strong, coming from someone who has not seen the original. I thought it was very powerful and eerie.

MildPossession
Yeah it was more or less shot for shot.

I found the acting was mediocre from all the actors who played the family in the remake compared to the original.

Michael Pitt and his partner(forgotten his name in reality) were good though, but still found the two actors in the original more disturbing, it helped that I had never come across the actors before Funny Games.

I like these threads where we can just come and say names of our most favorite horror movies with no particular reason. I know i always try to out do everyone else's lists. sometimes i feel as though i have succeeded but then some monkey sneaks a title past me that i forgot about.

I think if you are trying to get back into horror. You should watch, the Day of the Dead remake. If you do this you are guaranteed to enjoy the next horror movie you watch, unless of course it is darkness falls. I like to start with shit and work my way to gold. Gold always looks better after staring at shit for a few hours.

The Changeling the poster is on about is from the late 70s, definitely worth checking out. So is the Jolie one, but like mentioned, it's not Horror.

I recommend Martyrs, excellent French film.

faradayslaw
I really loved Hatchet, it reminded me of those old-school Jason movies I always loved to watch. Of course it does star Kane Hodder.....

I really only have one to reccomend and it is Poultergeist. The first one. It is a good horror movie that makes you scared with only having one gory seen in it. I mean... I know we all love blood and gore... but when your eating popcorn it is a little nerve-racking. It is a classic horror movie that still entertains.

The Italians are not doing their best right now in Horror stick out tongue

Even Dario Argento is not up there at the moment, the third of his three mother trilogy is one of the worst horror films I have seen in a long time. Hope he pulls through with Giallo because I adore his work usually.

Same here. I actually found the movie very entertaining.

MildPossession
I would change some things because I found a few things cringeworthy, mostly dialogue, that was a surprise actually knowing who the script writer was... but apart from that, yep, very entertaining.

MildPossession
Nothing special, more importantly, have you seen the original REC? if not, watch REC first.

it confuses me why people have 28 days later or anything by robert cummings aka rob zombie in their list,

28 days is just a boring film
and robert cummings hasnt got a clue about horror films, he dosnt have any original ideas to his films he just copies other peoples idea's he is just a fake

MildPossession
Do you like any Horror films that are not filled with gore?

BackFire
Men Behind the Sun is really good.

Philosophy of a Knife was shit.

snuff hunter
shit,, lol,, its beter than any robert cummings films aka rob fake zombie

yeah i do,

august underground penace
murder collection v1
theater of horror (boxset)

chinese torture chamber story 1 and 2
red room 1 and 2

BackFire
Nah.

At least Zombie can create decent gore effects for his films. There was one scene in Philosophy of a Knife where a girl was supposed to have her face destroyed, and what did they do? They just put a shitty K-Mart Freddy Krueger looking mask on her. Awful.

The entire movie was a masturbatory exercise in obnoxious self promotion. Kept hearing how it's the most ****ed up and horrific film ever made and was supposed to be better than Men Behind the Sun, it wasn't. Not even close. Wasn't disturbing or effective at all.

snuff hunter
i didnt say it was beter than men behind the sun,,

snuff hunter
but i can say it is beter than salo,..

BackFire
That wasn't aimed at you, just speaking generally at the hype aimed at the film.

snuff hunter
zombie is a fake,, all his films are copied off of some-one else's idea

BackFire
Who cares about Zombie, you keep bringing him up for no reason.

snuff hunter
im just sayin,, atleast andrey iskanov, the guy who did philosophy of a knife does orginal stuff,,

robert cummings dosnt,,

who's the best director?

snuff hunter
look at a few comments back and you will find that it was you who brought up the fake bumhole, not me

BackFire
Philosophy of the Knife wasn't all that original. It was a shitty version of Men Behind the Sun combined with aspects of Shoah. And then mixed with more shit.

I bet you like Murder-Set-Pieces, too.

snuff hunter
thats one film i havnt seen yet,,

i do want to see it,

is it any good?

BackFire
No it's absolutely terrible, monumentally shitty and another movie made by a talentless hack who simply promoted the hell out of it saying that it's the most extreme and disturbing film ever made, and then forgot to try and actually make it not suck. The gore effects are passable since they were done by Toe Tag and they do good effects, but it wasn't enough to save the rest of the movie. See it, though, you might like it.

Oh?

Here is my post:

For the reading impaired, no mention of Rob Zombie at all. To which you responded:

Not to mention that in your very first post in the thread you randomly brought up your distaste for Rob Zombie movies.

So please refrain from being wrong, thanks.

snuff hunter
so its less disturbing than snuff 102,,

snuff 102 is nothing compared to august underground, aftermath, nekromnantik, the gateway meat, the flower of flesh and blood, mermaid in a manhole etc etc

but i do want to see muzan-e,, so murder set pieces has got alot to say what it is,

watch it,, then maybe we can argue about it,,

snuff hunter
im just pointin out what a fake bumhole cummings is,,

whats wrong with freedom of speech

BackFire
It's less disturbing than most movies. It's less disturbing than Sesame Street.

I do like the August Underground series, though I didn't like how they abandoned the plausible atmosphere for more gore in Mordum. I also very much liked Aftermath and Flower of Flesh and Blood and I love Mermaid in the Manhole.

Also, have you seen Cutting Moments? A brilliant short film that is very deeply disturbing.

snuff hunter
fred vogel is a star i just love his stuff,, the redsin tower wasnt that great,, shite compared to mordum and penance,, but im hoping murder collection v1 is up to standards

BackFire
Yeah I'm interested in Murder Collection, too.
