Morridini
I must say I am pretty surprised that there wasn't any thread made for this "limited" (limited as it will end after 60 issues) series.

I had heard quite a lot about this series and decided to DL the first few issues, after I had read issue one and two I decided that this was so good that I deleted the downloads and a few days later went and bought the first TPB. So far I am loving this series.

For those of you who don't know what this is, it is about all the males of all the species on Earth suddenly dies, all except for one human male and his male monkey. And then we follow him and a selected few women. I can highly recommend giving this a shot.

For those of you who know of it, any of you read this?

Citizen V
This series is AMAZING.

I can't wait for the last issue, I really want to see how it all ends, but at the same time I don't want it to end. sad

Black Adam
Explanation for the plague was a big letdown. Still one of my favorite vertigo books though.

Morridini
Haven't gotten to the explanation yet, so far I got the impression it was something to do with the curse on that amulet.

manorastroman
i dropped it around the third or fourth trade.

You crazy fool.

tjcoady
oh, Y the Last Man, how I ever so much love you. I'm going to like... cry next month, when the last issue comes out. maybe make some sort of declaration of my love for it, and Brian K. Vaughan, out of marble and tears.

Black Adam
GOOD END.

not to happy but not so depressing and shitty that it made want to throw the book out the window.

Peek
Is it funny? Action packed? What?

The last issue or the whole series?

And yes. It's both those things. As well as clever, touching, fun, and sad.

It's a little dissapointing not to know the "true" reason why all the men died... but read the BKV interview on Newsarama right now, and the point kinda comes to the forefront, which is that the series isn't about that, at all, and focusing on that misses the point.

I'm sad it's over. I was a little depressed when I bought the book today and realized it's the last time I'm ever going to be buying it.

There's still the upcoming film. Oh shi- That might end up depressing you even more.

Peek
Just read first issue. Quite a scary ending indeed.

Just read 2.

"I have no intention of whoring out my own son" laughing out loud

roughrider
Because he's the last man, there's some lesbian action going on with other characters. wink

Peek
Now that interests me.

Just read issue 4 I think.

His sister. One ***. sick

manorastroman
what's only three letters and requires censoring? ass? ***?

woops, nevermind. there it is. it's ***.

xmarksthespot
They censor ***? That's just silly, when they don't censor shit.

Peek
Is ***** censored:

Bitach. sad

Citizen V
Y: The Last Man, IMO, is the best limited series I've read for a very long while. (If not ever)

Peek
I am on issue 30.

Only a few comics have ever got me that interested that I read 30 in a row.

F*cking outstanding and I will be looking to buy them all. thumb up

The ***** ninja just stole the monkey!! mad

Honestly, I hated the ending. I mean the series isn't exactly known for happy moments, but even still, its just too depressing if you ask me.

GGS
It got to confusing for me pretty much after he met his sister again i gave up.

The ending sure was sad, especially when old Yorick committed primate euthanasia.

I didn't hate it though (pretty much the opposite), it was a little confusing, but very emotional.

Peek
Just read it all.

I wish most series didn't end on a sad note.

This one wasn't sad but not to happy.

Who would think the sister and he ex become an item lol.

Poor monkey. I miss him. sad

jumpmann
The ending was perfect, like the rest of the series. It was confusing for me the first time I read the series about the span of 5 years (only read single issues when they came out), but after rereading every issue over he past day, everything makes sense and there was so much genius put into it it boggles the best.

Best thing to come out of the comic medium ever.

Peek
Apparently there were hints at 355's name.

Anybody got an idea what it is?

jumpmann
Beth Brown.

Peek
What makes you say that?

jumpmann
I don't think there are any hints to be honest. Vaughn is weird like that and wants people to reread his work all the time. Just one of those Lost and Translation finishes to something that was never there in the first place. You'd think with all the readers on that book SOMEBODY would have been like "oh snap right here"...but I've never heard of one.

HueyFreeman
Just finished reading the series. That ending was depressing.

tjcoady
if you can't figure out why Y is amazing

then you deserve not to enjoy it

Darth Vicious
I thought the concept was pretty cool. Yorick was a smartass and some of his one-liners were funny as hell. I thought the series dragged a little towards the middle but otherwise it was pretty good. I like stories with a set ending(Girls, The Sword). Theres talks of a movie already.

llagrok
I enjoyed the series and didn't think the ending was half-bad either.

The reason for the cure was a tad off, but still great.

tjcoady
If you thought it was confusing....

Or if you are THAT worked up about what the reason for the plague is...

then you are honestly an idiot and should never have tried to read it in the first place.

Boy Blue
I read it all, in trades... which, IMO, maxxed out the enjoyability, as the stories are told in trades, and it's easier to pick up on each little detail that relates to past/future issues.

But, yeah... I was pretty much astounded by the whole thing. Wow.

People complain about the reason for the Gendercide, but we never received a concrete reason... not really. We were given a bunch of hypotheticals, from the Aboriginal beliefs to the Culper Ring conspiracy theories, but nothing was proven. Like 355's name, this was all obviously on purpose.

Anyways, highly recommended to anybody looking for a good story.

Symmetric Chaos
I really enjoyed it, mainly because of the level of even handedness it gave to every issue that came up.

Disappear
i read the first trade at a barnes and noble around november of last year, and have been trying to get up the funds to go out and buy the trades so i can read more. from what little i read, i really liked the story.

favorite part poll :
the cop killing herself when she realizes all the men are dead.

Totally agree. Haven't read the rest of this thread for fear of spoilers.

I bought the first two trades last week and found it to be sooo good I'm going into town today to buy more yes

I love the fact that (so far as I've only read first two arcs) they have addressed the fact that this is every hormonally charged teenage boys fantasy and yet they've not gone done the route of a porno comic but instead crafted a nice little odyssey for Yorrick.

Like they said in the comic, "what reason would have been satisfying?" ... "Aliens?"

Seriously, most of the proposed reasons seem woefully far fetched, there's just no way any virus could reach that many people/animals at exactly the same time planetwide, and a bioweapon wouldn't work without meticulous planning and hundreds of thousands of delivery systems covering the entire planet, which would have been discovered eventually. An ancient Curse? anyone believe in those? nature cutting out the Y chromosome because cloning was almost perfected? seriously doubt it.

I think they may have started out with an idea of what caused it but then realised that any explanation would have been called as bullshit, so they left it open instead.

I read the whole series over the last few days and I loved it, as soon as Yorick and 355 admitted their feelings I knew something bad would happen, didn't think it would be quite so sudden though. Hated to see Ampersand go, but Monkeys only live so long anyway.

Thankfully only a few twists were predictable, so it never got boring.

llagrok
Scoobs is on to something good. In this case, not knowing might be better than actually knowing.

Yorick should've tapped that asian lez.

It's a story about consequences. The reason for them dying isn't important.

You can't have consequences without a triggering event though ... how are people supposed to learn from their mistakes if they don't know what their mistakes were.

Not saying the "plague" is important to the quality of the story, but it did matter.

Not saying the "plague" is important to the quality of the story, but it did matter. It wasn't about the mistakes that led to the plague, IMO.

It was about how a demographic, who were either considered equals or lessers, could cope with it.

Yeah, that was the main point of all the background stories and subplots but for Yorick, Alison and 355 it was about curing the plague and surviving in general.

The plague was a MacGuffin. The story was really about balance, trauma and discrimination.

Morridini
I forgot I made this thread way back, and thus haven't read all posts here yet, will take a look at them tomorrow.

Just popped back in to say that this weekend I finally finished the last TPB, ending the series. Overall I really enjoyed this series, even though we never got to know what explanation of the tragedy was true.

willRules
Yeah I finished this a few months ago. I felt that the whole thing was really strong and the story really hung upon Yorick's relationship with 355, Dr Mann and Ampersand. That traveling group really made the series.

My favourite storyline was the one where they meet those women who have closed off one of the roads they need to go down and just piled up a load of lorries. 355 and Dr Mann are captured but just go crazy, taking down an entire firing squad. Meanwhile Yorick has to kill a young girl or be killed by her in a standoff.
