Saw it two days ago. It's in limited release in five North American cities ( New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Toronto.) Not as big a jump as going from the Original to the 1992 Director's Cut, but still some things have changed. Small cuts for time, the Unicorn sequence is longer & intercut, the VFX have been cleaned up and shots rematted, dialogue loop changes to fix mistakes - plus, a never seen shot of gyrating dancers in hockey masks! eek!
I've only seen that shot once, in a British film Magazine back in the early 90's.

Tex
I'm getting the HD DVD for Xmas.

I went to the theatre, just so I can say I've seen every version of it in a theatre. This one, the Original Release back in 1982 (when I was a young kid), and the Director's Version in 1992.

That pic used to be on the rental VHS cover (on the back) in the 80s. I always wondered why it wasn't in the movie. There were only 2 or 3 pics on the back. This was one of them.

Is there any other film out there called BLADE RUNNER?
Yes, the one from 1982. And it looks great.

queeq
Well, now it's the 2007 Blade Runner but the footage was shot in 1982, yes. With Harrison Ford. Now co-starring his son.

Rajendra
it was a nice movie. full of suspense action

queeq
Full of many good things.

Excellent

I bought the 4/5 disc edition and also the 2 disc Final Cut. Stupid consumerism.

=Tired Hiker=
Final Cut my ass. In a couple years from now they'll come out with the Director's next door neighbor's best friend's ex-wife's brother's cut in 3D.

exanda kane
That could get ugly.

queeq
Nope. It's over now. They fixed eveything they wanted fixed. The End... enjoy it.

Mr Shindiggery
Up until The Final Cut came out I had never watched Blade Runner before now after having watched it I absolutely loved it and it stands as one of my most favorite Sci-Fi movies. Riddley Scott is a genius this along with Alien are his best movies imo.

queeq
Happy Dance

exanda kane
Yeah.

I wish he would put more into the British Industry though. He and his brother own Elstree, but don't do much other than hire it out to the Majors. That's one of the many small criticisms I can throw around when it's been a while since I saw Blade Runner or Alien.

Saying that Gladiator's gotta be up there too. I *must* get that on DVD. There a Director's Cut of that? If so, is it worth getting over the theactrical cut?

Seeing as it won Best Picture, I can't imagine some Director's Cut actually being better. That's like the Director's Cut of AMADEUS that came out years ago - What? The first version didn't win enough Oscars as it was?
Scott is getting too addicted to going back and recutting his films, just to make more money from another DVD. He had legitimate reasons for films like Blade Runner & Legend, but the other films are just stunts for publicity.

The theatrical cut IS the director's cut. That's what Scott says himself. There is an extended edition, which is nice to see all the deleted scenes you saw on the 2-disc edition on its rightful place. So it's mainly longer, but the theatrical/director's cut is better.

Same with American Gangster. I saw the Extended Edition first and thought it was tad boring plus it had a useless ending. The theatrical is much better and I think Scott concurs.

Mr Parker
I am hesitant about seeing this film since the directors cut sucked, they took cut out so many scenes from the original.

queeq
No they didn't. They only removed the happy ending.... and that narration.

They actually added some little stuff here like the dancing girls with the hockey masks.

exanda kane
That narration...is right. Harrison Ford is a great actor in many ways, but performing a monologue just isn't him, at least when it is so dereft of any personality.

Director's Cut is better than the original I reckon. I haven't actually watched the Final Cut wholeheartedly yet so I cannot compare. More Blade Runner though, I have no problem with that.

queeq
You don't know the story about the narration then. That must have been one of Harrison's weirdest experiences ever. Nobody ever wanted the narration except for the studio. By the time they got around to doing that it was jusy ordered by the studio and when Harrison showed up at the recording studio there was a complete unknown recordist, no director, none of the writers or anyone there. Grumpily the guy gave Harrison his lines and Ford just delivered it in a roundabout way... So when no one makes an effort to make the narration work... what do you expect.

Interestingly enough, the Workprint (on the 5-disc edition) has a little bit of narration during Batty's death scene at the end. That was pretty interesting and well done. Well written and well delivered by Ford. If they ever should have done the narration properly, that would have been the way to go.

exanda kane
I knew it the narration was forced on them by the studi, and therefore I thought it might have been a little rushed considering the finished piece, but I didn't know that. Studio pig bastards.

I haven't watched the Workprint yet...I might do that now.

queeq
It hasn't got many new things. Except the ending is cut a little different and has that great piece of narration.

exanda kane
I didn't manage all of it in the end but I did notice the score is quite different, a few added lines of dialogue and a few shoots. Overall, a lot to like about it.

queeq
The Final Cut has all that, plus it's trimmed better.

And the Zhora death looks a lot better in the FC.

exanda kane
Yeah I noticed the Zhora bit, I haven't noticed the changes in the score though; more piano in the Workprint than I remember being in the Final Cut.

Apparently Ridley Scott mentioned he would be interested in a sequel. I haven't read the follow up novels, but I had a little wiki-look at them and I'm not too convinced by them. Looks like bad fan fiction but that might just be wiki's take. Nothong on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep anyway.

queeq
No sequels please.

Sadako of Girth
Or Total recall 2070 style trouserial deposits either.

queeq
Hehehe

exanda kane
I like the book Total Recall was based on smile

big gay kirk
"We can remember it for you wholesale." one of Dick's best short stories... and i'm still waiting for someone to ruin The Man in the High Castle by making a bad movie version...
