Coat of arms...
Alright I'm working on this coat of arms thing and was hoping for some help. I've drawn it out and its description says 'ermine on black fess' I know what ermine is but what the hell would fess be? I can't seem to find anything helpful on google or any other website for that matter. Thanks for any help.

Well my understanding was a horizontal black stripe,thickish, across the center, with the stuff on top of it,which doesn't make sense because "ermine" are like black little pawn shapes so black and black is odd. 🤨
