I don't have a Zune or an ipod, but a few people that I've talked to that have Zunes, prefer them much better than ipods.
They cost about the same though, don't they?

The prices were the same where I bought it, which was at Target. However, Target has a promotion right now where you get a twenty dollar gift card if you buy a Zune, but you can't put it towards the purchase of the Zune, but that's okay since I basically shop at Target all the time. Also, Zune has an FM radio tuner, and I don't believe the Ipod does.
As far as the Zune goes, I found it really easy to figure out, I was downloading songs right after I opened it and registered with the Zune website. I also bought some software online that allows me to transfer DVDs into my Zune. I dumped The Simpson's Movie in it the other night and Sicko, both movies I have not seen. I'm waiting until I go on my honeymoon to watch them while I'm sitting at the airport for hours.
So far I love it.

I really like it, but then again I have nothing to compare it to. I never used an Ipod before. But as far as user friendlyness and quality of sound and stuff like that, it's great. God, I sound like a sales rep.
