30th Anniversary - And Nothing Happened??

It's now 2008.
The 30th Anniversary came and went - and nothing happened, really.

Not like the 20th Anniversary, when all three came back to theatres, remastered, and still did huge business. And the prequels finally started up filming.

I thought we were going to see all six films return to theatres - wasn't IMAX 3-D the plan?
I thought we would finally see the DVD box set of all six films released - didn't happen. I WANT to see the improved Yoda for TPM. miffed

One large convention in May, and that's all? I can't believe it.

General G
Yeah, I must agree...I thought there would be more, besides a Darth Vader stand-up at my local Athena, there was nothing really here.

queeq
An ultimate DVD box.. that's what should happen.

General G
That is what should HAVE happened...2007 has come and gone.

queeq
I don't mind it if it comes out next month.

roughrider
I think it was because Lucas was waiting for the debut of a new format, that would end the battle between HD-DVD & Blu-ray. That's when the sextet box would come out. But the format battle continues, and he chose to continue sitting on the fence rather than choose a format.

It's not like he hasn't released the films in multiple versions before and raked in millions - what's one more release? roll eyes (sarcastic)

It's actually helped me to sit on the sidelines, too. Whatever format STAR WARS gets released in, will be the one I buy into.

queeq
Me too. I think GL is right in a way about waiting for the winning format. I do the same and am very annoyed about these companies going head to head again. We finally had an international standard, and now they're at it again.

General G
It will be a constant battle. But Blue-ray is quite expensive and I know nobody with a blue-ray player...but I am unsure of its popularity in other areas.

roughrider
And I gues the theatrical rerelease hasn't happened because Lucas & Rick McCallum have failed to get the total overall of projectors - from film to digital - in the theatre chains thus far. It's still a future some years away.

queeq
The theatrical release IS there. It's on DVD. It's just not remastered and restored digitally.

Sadako of Girth

queeq
Yeah, I wanna have that one too.

And there was the Making of Star Wars.

General G
Yeah, I have been debating on that one...still burns holes in wallets...

The Making of was good...$10 off wink

And you definately closed that thread because you knew I was right.

queeq
No, because it was off topic.

General G
And still right.

queeq
Yes, I was still right.

General G
No, me.

queeq
"Me, me, meee... Look at me... "

You should rename yourself as General Chick Hicks.

Sadako of Girth

queeq
Really? The Vault thing?

Sadako of Girth
Indeed. smile

I noticed Amazon.co.uk had the same offer. Ordered it right away.

Sadako of Girth
You wont regret it.

Especially for that money. smile

Melcórë
$40? Damn....well, at least we were able to buy it at Costco for $60.

queeq

Sadako of Girth
Result! smile

queeq
Sheer and utter happiness.... it has been shipped...teeheee..

General G
Hmm...tell me how it is, and I will decied on ordering it or not.

queeq
I will. Prolly in a week or so when it arrives.

General G
OK, good, because it looks good.

queeq
It does indeed.

coolmovies
So nothing happend on that note i am moving to middle earth bye all sw fans

queeq
You're not coming back?

No internet in Middle Earth?

coolmovies

queeq
Ah... do drop in once in a while. We love ya!

General G
Yeah! You make such interesting threads that I would never have thought of!

queeq
Look who's talking.

General G
What?

queeq
Look who's listening.

Ah it so is....

queeq
What's in it?

queeq
Oooh... I just it today and it's loaded with great goodies. Replica's of letters, production books, cd with audio interviews, pictures of comic books, merchandise, film cells what have. ya... it's pretty amazing. Even a duplicate of the simple typed piece of paper with an invitation to Alec Guinness's party.
It's a bloody time machine!

Sadako of Girth
Indeed it is!

A veritable Tardis....only more SW flavoured. smile

*Resists urge to use the iron on T-shirt thang and definitely the stickers.*

*Contemplates buying 2nd copy so to use the stuff*

queeq
Yeah! The stickers...even replica's of genuine Revenge of The Jedi stickers used during production. It's totally amazing.

Sadako of Girth
Yeah my guitar cases are begging me for their SW adhesive glory, but my pimphand is strong 'til 2nd bookage. stick out tongue

So I guess the question is, now you've got it in:
Do you feel it to be an adequate marker of the 30th...?

queeq
Personally I thought The Making of Star Wars was that already. This is great, I just miss the DVD box. I continued watching the 5-disc Balde Runner Final Cut Ultimate Mega superduper Definitive box set... and miss something similar with SW.
It is after all, all about the movies.

General G
I am going to take that as a good review and order it soon stick out tongue

queeq
It's worth it.

General G
Good, and it won't be $90 either.

queeq
Nope 20 quid is a real bargain.

General G
I'll say.

queeq
My wife even said she understood why I got it, she felt it was even worth 60.

General G
Does she like Star Wars?

I could've done without the second CD....not very interesting, really....

But Carrie Fisher singing = the best. stick out tongue

Pax Chizzic
I think that for the 30th anniversary they showed all six episodes theatrically at the Star Wars convention in L.A.

queeq

She doesn't hate it... but isn't particularly fond of it. But my three sons all like SW, so she is seriously outnumbered. evil face

Sadako of Girth
LOL "They be back soon...and in greater numbers" stick out tongue

And yeah that Blade Runner Final Cut was excellent. smile

queeq
Superb. I watched the Final Cut, the Work Print, the 3-hour documentary and the 1,5 hour of featurettes.... Totally amazing!

laughing out loud

I will assume cranking it is off limits still?

queeq
Assume away. hehehehe

General G
laughing

queeq
Yes.

Sadako of Girth
SW movie watching volumes are a serious thing.

I'm not happy 'til there is actual structural damage to my flat.
When Vader does the force choke or a Star Destroyer passes by, it causes low vibrational sound so loud it actually punches you in the head and steals your wallet. smokin'

queeq
Sly mofo, that Vader.

They also had that 'Legacy of Star wars revealed' on the history channel.

Which I thought it was really good, and hope to see it on a future dvd (most likely blu-ray) release

queeq
Hopefully. I never saw it.

Yep and you have to keep an eye on them Jawas too.

A few hours of
& quot;BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTIIIIIIINIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
IIIIIII......!!!!" on loop through a decent 5.1 system should sort anyone out for their fix.

queeq
Jawas are the worst of all.

General G
I didn't mind them so much, they were odd yes, but didn't bug me.

queeq
As movie characters: wonderful, great. But to live near them...ermm.. no.

General G
OK, that is true...they would be a bother to live with or by.

queeq
They're a bit like you. wink

General G
ooooh, now your getting personal.

queeq
YES!!! big grin

General G
NO!!!! BAD!!!

queeq
YESS!!! GOOD!!!

General G
GRRRR!!! mad

queeq
GROWL.... let your hate flow and soon your journey to the Dark Side is complete.

General G
My journey was done long ago!

queeq
You failed even at being a Sith????

General G
No way, I am sneaky like Sidious, nobody knows of my Sith status, not even you, see how well it worked.

queeq
You just revealed yourself... in rather a dumb way. Guess you're a wanna-be Sith.

General G
Oh no, it wasn't a dumb way, you are still the only one that knows.

queeq
Oh yes and this is a private board... *shakes head*

General G
Ummmm...do you see anybody else in this thread?!

queeq
They're all watching but because you're such a big and scary Sith no one dares to post.

General G
laughing out loud

Excellent...then my job is being done.

queeq
Yyyyyeah/...

General G
I still see noone else.

Quiero Mota
After an unnecessary "Special" Edition and a horrible prequel trilogy, I think they've done enough embarassment to the original 3 (and only good) films in the saga.

And then the Star Wars tv show is gonna come out, which I really oppose. Not only do I not like it when movies I like become tv series, Star Wars itself has a had a lot of bad spin-offs, like the prequels.

queeq
Prequels as spin-offs.... good one. laughing out loud

I dread the series too, I will watch it though, but it reminds me of Star Trek.

General G
Way too many PT haters in here...

coolmovies
I hate them too

General G
You hate the PT?

coolmovies
yes

General G
ooooh, ouch, and why is this?

coolmovies
no vader and no luke and his gang

General G
Lies, Vader is there...for a bit...and it is a good thing Luke is only there as a baby, he whined about the same amount anyways though.

Sadako of Girth
Well its the abscence of SW-ey soul in the 1st two that did it.

That made baby Luke cry.

General G
Yes...I will admit that the first two were...lets say...not up to par...but I still won't shun them.

coolmovies
It does not matter how much good stuff you say about the PT the OT is far better

queeq
It is. If the PT only really has one good movie to offer, it's pretty poor. Imagine just one movie where only the last 20 minutes are good.... you may never get there.

General G
The OT is much better...but I am not going to moan and complain about the PT either...they both had their flaws (ROTJ can house a few)...even if the PT's are more prominent.

queeq
THen what else should we do here? wink

General G
Your the mod, you figure it out stick out tongue

queeq
Well, THAT: complain about the PT. laughing out loud

General G
ooooh, no, I don't think so, that's not very fun.

queeq
Yes it is.

What else then? What do you suggest?

General G
Only for a select few.

We could...ummm...hmmm...I'm drawing a blank. Don't say a word.

queeq
What else is new? wink

General G
What did I just say?

queeq
Dunno, I never listen to you. stick out tongue

General G
Well then...that explains all the "indeeds"

queeq
Indeed.

General G
You totally suck.

queeq
And that's insulting a mod.

General G
Maybe it is. Maybe I like to live on the wild side. stick out tongue

queeq
Hence all the wild animals in sig and ava.

General G
Yes, but they have more meaning than simply living on the wild side.

queeq
As in, very little wild side for them?

General G
They live quite the wild life...avoiding humans constantly.

queeq
They better

General G
Meaning?

queeq
So humans won't kill them.

coolmovies
I think i'll snog leia

queeq
How?

General G

Where can they go though? We cut down their habitats...they are running out of places to hide.

queeq
I know... it's sad.

General G
It is...it is very sad...

queeq
Yup. So are you in some kind of protection committee?

General G
I have donated to various causes.

General G
As well as done random wildlife presentation with zoos to different places like camps, libraries, schools, etc.

coolmovies
Hay queeq did you know Genrel G is a sith and is planing to kill all the mods to rule the KMC galaxcy ?whistle

queeq
Well, he thinks he is a sith and he plans an awful lot. He's just not very good at it.

coolmovies
ohh lolz

queeq
wink

coolmovies
borring zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

queeq
Wake up and make a joke.

DarthLazious
Just wait for the 50th Anniversary comes then we all will be partying.

General G
GL will do something before that...it means more money.

queeq

In wheelchairs?

General G
What's a party without wheelchairs?

queeq
Good point.

General G
Exactly wink

queeq
I better start organising then. By taht time I'd have completely forgotten it all.

General G
laughing out loud

Just always remember the chips and salsa.

queeq
I'll write it down. If my eyes still work at that time I'm sure I can read it.

General G
If not, pictographs, things don't change enough for you to forget what something looks like.

queeq
Maybe I'll ask the hot nurse to remind me... in her own special way.
