you know, sometimes a story can get ruined by an issue that just hurts your eyes, or a version of the hulk that just looks like shit.

for me, i dont remember the issue # but it was thor vs drax in warlock and the infinity watch. a big fight ruined by atrocious "art".

The last dozen or so issues of Warlock and the Infinity Watch were HORRIBLE. I wish they would have had Ron Lim work on them after working on the Infinity series.

Cable had a run with landron(i think) man was he bad....i did see alot of praise for his kirby-ish style.....but i thought it was horrible

Is that that crappy artist who when he draws characters they look squiggly and disproportionate?

Anyway I dont know the artist's name but the one who drew origins. Everytime he draws someone they always look ugly. I can tolerate it but its a bit off-putting.

Once I seen this thread, I just had to respond. I could literally be here all day naming off artists and issues that come to mind, but I'll just name a few right off the top of my head...ok, here goes...

Someone mentioned the art in a few issues of Warlock Chronicles where Drax fought Thor...I know what he's talking about, and trust me...he's right!!

Duncan Rouleau's pencils on The Juggernaut one-shot from the mid-nineties where he battles' D'spraye...Uggghhhhh (cool story, but atrocious artwork)

Venom : The Madness mini-series where Venom fights Juggernaut....Uuugggghhhhhhhhhhh

Early issues of "Deathlok" regular series from 91'...the issues where he fought Punisher and Ghost Rider....#'s 5-6 and 9-10. B-A-D!!!!

Daredevil (Vol.2) #51 - 55 issues with David Mack as the artist..... sick

The "Wolverine : SNIKT" mini-series......OMG laughing out loud

Just about anything Jae Lee draws...PARTICULARLY Hulk (vol.2) #82...pure crapola art!

Check out the "Wolverine / Havok : Meltdown" mini-series for some SUPER-$h!tty artwork....

Chaykin's artwork on the latest "Blade" series is some of the worst artwork I've seen in awhile....

Yu's artwork on recent issues of "New Avengers" is god-awful IMO. So bad I can't finish an issue of New Avengers without my eyes hurting...

Mike Mahon's "artwork" on Batman : Legends of the Dark Knight issues #55, 56, and 57 has to be the absolute worst drawing I believe I've ever seen...must be seen to be believed....

Herberto Ramos is a joke!! Despise his artwork too. ANYTHING he draws! Especially Spidey.

I have never been a fan of Sam Keith or Kelly Jones artwork...both are as bad as the other...also early artwork by JRJR...he did get better as he went along, but his early stuff is pretty bad. Oh, and I too hate the artwork on the new Thor. He's UGLY!!

I'm sure there's A LOT more that I'll think of later, but these are some of the ones that immediately come to mind....

Do you mean The Dark Knight Returns, or The Dark Knight Strikes Again? The latter I would say isn't as good. He should have let Klaus Janson ink his stuff again - he was his top collaborator until Miller decided to ink all his own work from the late 80's onward.

I hear a lot of criticism of artists who draw in an unrealistic style. I don't think all comic art has to look like it was done by George Perez, Phil Jimenez, Jim Lee, Mike Deodato, Gary Frank et all. to be good. A lot of Rob Liefeld bashing is warranted, yes; but I can't help thinking that Jack Kirby should be getting the same treatment for the way he distorted for effect. Kirby is revered, though.
I think Steve Dillon's art perfectly captures the feel of the book when he works with Garth Ennis on Preacher or Punisher. And I think there's a difference between drawing in a cartoony style (so much of the 1990's art) versus an impressionistic style - Frank Miller, Walter Simonson, Tim Sale, Bill Sienkiewicz, Howard Chaykin, John Romita Jr. Their style doesn't always work on some titles, but most often they do.

I can still list some peeves, though. Jeff Purves followed Todd McFarlane's breakout work on the Hulk, and his characters just looked ugly by comparison; the art didn't pick up until Dale Keown took over. And Steve Ditko drew some of the ugliest faces, for a guy who worked in a realistic style.

But regular pencil art has always gotten better over the years, thanks to improvement in printing techniques and other factors.

I totally agree with you, but having said that, if I were asked to name some of my favourite artists, it'd be the ones you mentioned like Jim Lee, George Perez, Phil Jimenez, Terry Dodson, Steve Mcniven etc
