Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood is a Nintendo DS console role-playing game based on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. It is being developed by Canadian RPG developer BioWare, who is now part of Electronic Arts. The game is scheduled to be released in 2008 in North America and Europe.

A preview of the game was featured in the February 2008 issue of the Nintendo Power magazine, giving details on the game features and confirming its name. It also confirmed that there will be 11 playable characters.

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood is an RPG that will be fully controlled by touch screen control. There will not be any random battles, you will be able to see an enemy on screen. The battles will be turned based. Each character in the game will have a specific ability, such as Tails being able to fly. The player can have 4 party members at a time, and will be able to split into teams during the game.

Special attacks in the game will be made by tapping and dragging on indicated locations on the touch screen of the Nintendo DS. This are done by "Fatigue Points", which are similar to "Magic Points" (MP) in past RPG's. The player will choose which attributes to increase when leveling up, and you will be able to buy special attacks using rings as currency.

The game will have two acts, one set in a standard Sonic area, while the other one will take in a "darker world". There will be sidequests in the game.

After defeating Doctor Eggman, Sonic went on vacation for two years. He gets a call from Tails to inform that Knuckles has been kidnapped by a group of Marauders, and 6 Chaos Emeralds are missing.

According to BioWare, Eggman will not be the main villain, he will be a "more credible bad guy again". The game will have fully animated cutscenes.

I have heard of this for quite some time, before it had a name, it sounds good, I hope it is like the Mario & Luigi games, and this will be the 3rd sonic game made by a Canadian company am I correct?

Shame they stole the name from Oblivion.

EA shouldn't even be associated with an attempt at making anything other a Sports title. Everything else they've produced has ranged from terrible to unspeakably ghastly.

A Sonic RPG would be great, though.

Nothing special, I have both games and the expansion pack.

Starcraft, and from what I've seen from Halo Wars so far, is loads better.

Ultima Online, Command & Conquer series, Medal of Honor series, James Bond series (including Golden Eye 007), and Battlefield series and BioWare is making the game which is a part of EA. BioWare has KoToR, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect. Those games alone tells me that this will be a great Sonic game.

I'm going to disagree strongly on that last point - I've never been anything but disappointed in any game they've made that I've played.

Actually that was more the third game.

Incidentally, I hear a rotten banana is worth about 13 cents (US).

I could dig up a picture of Shade, but I'm lazy. She's interesting, but covered completely in battle armor. I wonder what species she is.

She's probably part magi and part demon.

Indeed it was, edios was the helping hand for 1 and 2.

My first thought was rabbit, but that would probably make her cream from an alternate reality, which would make Cream playable, and that would make me a sad panda

Espio would work well in a Sonic RPG along with Blaze, Vector, Omega; Rouge, in fact I hope Omega is in this game I liked him, the fact that all he wanted to do was to kill Eggman puts him in a high place in my list, I assume Eggman will play a part in this game undoubtedly some sort of ally, the only two real notable villains in a sonic game now are Metal Sonic, and Dr. Eggman Nega.

I loved the soundtrack from "Sonic Heroes" and "Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg".

Sonic heroes, sonic R, sonic 1-4, sonic CD and Sonic rush 1 & 2.

Though it's a turn-based RPG, Attack execution is lightning fast. Besides it's Bioware, and they haven't let me down yet (Especially if Drew is writing the story.)

I believe that's all the playable characters but maybe BioWare kept some secret as a surprise. And since the Chaos Emeralds are being involved I'm sure Super Sonic might make an appearance; of course the Chaos Emeralds were in Sonic Battle and Sonic never transformed and that's what I liked most about that game.

Only about a week away now!!

I'm still holding out for Blaze to be involved in some way. She's the only new character since Rouge that I actually liked.

I hope she's in it as well.

That looks like a good roster. I'm just glad Amy's in it.

That's because the chaos emeralds were used to awaken Emerl's true powers instead. It was still a great game, though.

If anyone can make Amy tolerable, it's BioWare. If she truly has another boyfriend, that should remove a lot of what makes her annoying.

Sonic Chronicles is getting some pretty good reviews thus far...oh and BioWare has said that if the game sells well and if Sonic Team will allow them they will gladly make another Sonic RPG.

Oh yeah Froggie. Well from what I've seen from the reviews pretty much all the characters were well liked.

Out of the Sonic games that I played, the soundtracks were awesome.

Good god, no wonder Mass Effect 2's coming out in 2009. Bioware's too busy making other games while everybody else is drooling over the Mass Effect sequel. Dang it Bioware, quit making games like Sonic and start working on Mass Effect you lazy bums!

Yeah, I hated his story in Sonic Adventure.

What sucks is that I lost the GCN memory card that had my Sonic Adventure DX memory on it and I want to fight Perfect Chaos, but those blasted Big The Cat levels are in the way. (I'm still on the first one... I just can't seem to catch that blasted frog!)


Anyway, I have to admit I like Sonic Chronicles, and Amy (Even though her having a boyfriend doesn't really stop her swooning over sonic... it just lessened it slightly) and Big are not too annoying in this one. I'm just glad that Big's dialouge isn't limited to "Froggy where are you?" and "Where's Froggy?"

I'm not far into the game, but I think that Amy is making her boyfriend up. I don't think he exists. And if he does exist... He'd better not be human.

The rampant bestiality in Sonic the Hedgehog is getting alittle annoying.

I have yet to see Amy's boyfriend Dexter in this game. And I'm in Chapter 8 I think.
