remember black and white - it was so cool - then they invented color and the world became confusing and garish - what was the best B&W movie ever

Two that come to mind are To Kill a Mockingbird and Schindler's List.

Paths of Glory, followed closely by The Elephant Man

Also, Night of the Living Dead

The Thin Man and the original King Kong.

Oh yeah, and Reefer Madness.

Cabinet of Dr. Caligari..Intolerance..****in' Nosferatu..the majority of the best B&W's were also silent movies, IMO.

The Crowd is also excellent.

Yes.

Totally agree, amazing film. Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and Nosferatu also agree with.

The Lady Vanishes for me also, my absolute favourite of Hitchcock's films.

King Kong was okay, but very funny. I had to laugh at the awful acting and special effects, lol
To Kill A Mockingbird was good, also.

I haven't seen too many black and whites, so that's about all.

yeah - there were lots of B&W movies I like them ealing comedies - The ladykillers and the Lavender Hill mob etc. - also Pi rocks...

Give me the original King Kong over the Jackson remake anyday.

Asking what the best B&W movie ever is like asking what the best color movie is.

I like Clerks, Pi, Night of the Living Dead, and The Wolf Man to name a few.

Paper Moon, even though it was done in '73, they went with B&W. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend, truly a good film.
