So Red Alert 3 was just revealed to be in production: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6185990.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;1

Anyone else looking forward to this? The Red Alert series has always been my favorite RTS games, especially because of the setting with the alternate timeline.

No pictures or anything up yet, I guess they haven't gotten too far with it yet.

Smasandian
I wasn't very impressed with Command and Conquer 3 for the PC.

But is this game very similar to that franchise?

If so, then I'm not going to that excited, especially considering the wealth of great RTS that are out, and coming out (SC2 the biggest one)

Morridini
Well, download and try Red Alert 2, it is in the Command & Conquer series (hence, Red Alert is the undertitle), but I've always liked the RA series over them.

Smasandian
Maybe I will.

Burning thought
red alert is a completly diffrent series in a way, still C&C but its sorta closer to real world (russia, allies instead of Nod and GDI in the future) only they have time traveling and such so they have lots of technology at their disposal

I get excited about Red alert games for sure

Morridini
Ok just to quickly sum up the story in the RA universe:
Einstein, invents a time machine he (or someone else) travels back in time and kills Hitler. There is no WWII, however it also changes a lot more to our timeline, Soviet never falls, and we have a new World War closer to our time. I don't remember the campaign from RA 1 much (I remember we had to rescue Einstein and something else), however RA 2 is about the soviet invading the USA. One fun thing is (maybe not fun because of what happened in the real world), but if you attack the Pentagon from the southeast side during the Soviet campaign it crumbles in the exact same way as it did during September 11.

It also has a kind of humoristic tone, and the cutscenes of humans are Live Action.

Also Smas, this is the intro of RA 2, one I have always found pretty cool:

Ushgarak
Kane's appearance in the Red Alert series is always the intriguing bit, of course, as well as the Soviet forces apparently using GDI technology.

But beyond that I care less. Command and Conquer has become very stale as a series.

Smasandian
Yeah, it has.

I was very disappointed with C&C 3.

Morridini
So check out, RA 2. As I haven't played much of the normal C&C series I can't say if it is too similar or not, but I always prefered this over Tiberian Sun.

Which I don't mind, the goofy acting fit perfect with the game imo.

Definitely don't mind a third Asian faction.

Bunch of new and weird weapons, as expected. But more naval sounds very cool.

Also, official website:

And a video of sorts:

Ushgarak
"A fully cooperative, story-driven campaign"

To be fair, that got my attention.

They did that with Emperor (Battle for Dune) but I never got to tuse it because, insanely, it only worked on the net, not on a LAN, and my net wasn't up for online gaming at the time.

I'm a sucker for co-op, is the thing.

Lana
I'll have to tell my brother about this, he loves Red Alert.

And I also remember him griping about the co-op on Battle for Dune as well...

LORD JLRTENJAC
I've been waiting for this for a long time. Red Alert is what got me into RTS games. This is exciting.

Found a "new" interview: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/31434.html
The first third is the only RA3 related part, and just ignore the terrible humor.

Kapton JAC
... That humor was terrible...

Japanese empire? Interesting.

heh... Yuri...

is it just me, or have all of the modern day/ futuristic RTS's made in the last two years looked like, exactly the same?

Parachuting bears? Are they ****ing joking?

Morridini
You didn't have problems with the Allied Dolphins fighting Soviet Squids but you don't like the Parachute Bears?

Burning thought
its fun and unique, having dirty grindy units consantly in every either WW game OR C&C with always realistic designs half the time gets tireing, this is unique, adds some humour and is pretty cool imo

hmm... never thought of it that way.

I don't know, I guess when RA2 came out I was 7 years younger so that type of stuff never bothered me. Whatever, I'll get used to it

Morridini
For me it's part of RA's charm. They just don't take themselves seriously,

The acting is over the top, the weapons are over the top, and it all just works out great. Of course you have to appreciate this kind of humour.

Good example is this great corny intro to Red Alert 2: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/190051.html
In my opinion just freaking great, some others just can't see the beauty of it, and find it crappy.

Great new vid: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/38591.html
The most important aspect of the RA series is still very much alive, the great wooden acting.

Also saw some real actors in there, that bearded dude and Peter Stormare.

Morridini
Fun little remix of RA 3.
