Swamp thing doesn't die in the orthodox sense, true, but he does fade out.

He goes to the parliment of the trees, and joins previous green elementals. And merely grows tall as a tree.

Great character tho, one of my top five, and the relationship he has with hellblazer is great.

Oh yeah, when Swamp thing took over Gotham with vegetation, Batman swore he'd kill ST if he tried to do so again........and ST believed it.

galan do you have the fights between ST and the other elementals that you refernce earlyer??? i would love to see those you gave me a whole new respect for swamp thing. The only time i seen him was in the allan moore story where he cured sups of a plant diese of some kind and another time when sups riped off his arm. great thread

Getting beaten by an approximation of the opposite of God's voice is the ONLY way the Word could have been beaten. It's not lame, it's fitting.

You're nitpicking entirely too much. The circumstances behind the Word's defeat have already been thoroughly explained. That said, there's really no need to continue any sort of debate regarding that instance

Dead? No way. At the end of his previous series, he was still alive and well... He's just not being used at the moment. Come to think of it, the last time ST was featured in a comic was back in 2006 (unless you count the comedic Ambush Bug: Year None series.)

Sorry, the scans with Ellaine kind of suggested that, though I don't really know the exact context of the scans. Reading up on Vertigo (especially Lucifer and Swamp Thing) are on my list of things to do.

That is kind of sad, especially since they can't use the excuse "he's too powerful for us to write for all the time!" when they have characters like The Spectre being used recently

Regardless, per the final issue of Swamp Thing v4 (which was released after Lucifer concluded), the 'real' ST is alive and well... Like I said, there apparently just hasn't been a need for him to appear in more current continuity.

In recent stories/events, Spectre has been watered down to the point that he's pretty much laughable. Personally, I'd rather not have ST ever appear in a comic again, then have him suffer the same fate. /shrug
