The only edge I see Ares with is skill. Physically Ares is outmatched but his skill will get him some wins. As pointed out earlier Ares was one-shotted when Hulk was fighting the Avengers.

Colossus 6/10.

Ares just went hand to hand against Herc, and received a misile straight in the face unfazed.

Colossus vs. Juggernaut-I:

Colossus knocked Juggernaut down twice in this fight but ended up loosing. Colossus shows some nice agility here too.

Colossus vs. Juggernaut-II:

Colossus learned his lesson from the first fight and used his brains to actually temporaliy stop the unstoppable Juggernaut. The massive ocean liner they were on was shaking from the fight.

Colossus vs. Juggernaut-III:

Here we have the infamous bar fight. Colossus was only 19 years old and pretty drunk during this match so I'm pretty sure his vision and reflexes were impared(Not that it would have mattered) but did fairly well here. Alot of people think Colossus was knocked out but if you look at the last scan it shows him armored up and still concious. You can paint your own picture.

I think Colossus would choke the hell out of Ares in an unarmed battle, Petes alot stronger as an adult than he was in Snoops scans.

While WWHulk beat Ares in one panel, it took him a couple pages to beat Colossus.

Is this ares the one that Thor fought or the one from mighty avengers?

Just to clairfy one thing, World War Hulk was enraged by Iron Man's missile attack that reminded him of Caiera's death. That panel of his eyes right before he bumrushes Iron Man was something. I think Ares is quite underrated, mainly because people haven't read too much of him. Mind you, this is a guy who can go toe-to-toe with Hercules.

I don't think that was good writing...Zeus looks like an emaciated old geezer, not the huge, robust pimp-daddy with a fiery-red shock of manbeard that he's supposed to be. That guy is supposed to be able to pick up smoking-hot chicks by the scores due to having the testosterone and...endowments of a bull. But that skinny old guy looks like he's gonna fall over any second from hunger pains. Zeus getting punched out like that doesn't show Ares' power, just that Marvel doesn't give Zeus the respect he deserves.

Honestly, Ares hasn't impressed me all that much yet. I don't underrate him at all, however. I realize his strength and power, his ability to go against Hercules and Thor, but these seem kind of a few and rare occurance. He appears to have problems with lesser foes for the most part. I'd like to see more of him.

But I think Colossus takes the slight majority, only 6/10. His superior durability, fighting skills, equivalent strength, intelligence/resourcefulness, his agility, and other superhuman stats (as they are enhanced to superhuman when he transforms) give him the win here.

Fighting skills are probably the only area Colossus is inferior to Ares in, while his strength is actually greater.

I would also give 6/10 to Colossus.

What's the problem?

Have you seen many of his fights? Aside from his obvious strength/durability powers that he uses in fights, many times he utilizes other strategies to defeat his opponents. Two of his fights with Juggernaut come to mind. There was also another time where he was facing an enemy that was stronger than he was, but he used other methods to defeat him. Check out his Respect thread. Colossus is very intelligent for a brick.

Although the god of War should be, Ares isn't always written as the smartest tool in the shed. He constantly rushed into battle, and makes hotheaded decisions.

The Ares series portrayed him as the god of war that he is. Being goaded into battle by She Ultron does NOT discredit all his other feats. He's the one that ended up saving the day anyways.

Who has Colossus BEATEN by simply using his "resourcefulness"? Because getting the Juggernaut into the water isn't exactly something an 8 year old couldn't have come up.

Anteus have no feats beyond being knocked out by Cecilia Reyes and failing to break through her shield. We do not know how strong he is, all we know is that Colossus think he is stronger.

That second scan was very cool, although Colossus did have help throughout that fight, it did show some good strength/agility/speed/fighting feats.

You are correct, we don't have anything beyond that. I can't deny that. But, I mean, think about it. Colossus is damn strong. And he knows he's damn strong. I think he would know if someone was far stronger than him.

Antaneus is probably pretty strong. Unfortunately he lacks quite a few durability feats.

Ares vs Colossus would be a very different fight though.

I agree, never doubted that Ares would put up a completely different fight. I was merely providing those scans as evidence to Colossus' surprisingly-skilled fighting ability. I'm not saying that he is more skilled than Ares, but rather that Colossus is highly skilled himself and won't be a pushover. Coupled with his other various skills that he's learned (agility from Nightcrawler, fighting technique from Wolverine, Cyclops, and others, and his own intelligence/ingenuity) makes Colossus a very formiddable fighter.

the only skill advantage that Ares has over Pete is his skill with weapons...

Ares tagged Hermes in the foot with a nail gun, I don't think that Colossus supposed agility will make that big a difference. Nor do I believe that Wolverine's martial arts training will help him against Ares thousands of years of fighting.

The fact that Ares took it to Hercules physically is impressive, seeing as he's supposed to only be a class 60 without fighting skills. Hercules is one of the more skilled bricks.

Ares is only supposed to be class 60? Is that from a handbook? I know he's physically weaker than Hercules, but he's also a true god as opposed to a demigod. I think he's well above class 60 just from reading his appearances.

Ares should have better agility stamina reflexes.

Ares is actually class 70. He's one of the strongest Olympian gods.

Yeah, believe it or not, most gods, Asgardian, Greek, Celestial, or otherwise, peak around 40 tons, and that's on a good day for them.

Celestials are 2k feet tall or taller....and can augment their strength and everything else. I'm pretty sure they can lift above 40 tons. Their official bio list they have "incalculable strength". And yea ares stood toe to toe with hercules who thor said was a better fighter than him hand to hand. So i'm guessing the god of war is probably far and above Colossus in that regard.

I mean their strength on the daily basis, not when augmenting their strength with their powers.

And I'm not denying that Ares has better fighting abilities, but Colossus is stronger than him.

Their strength is always incalculable. But ares is more skilled tactician and fighter and has a better healing factor than Colossus.
