2009 Movies

Strangelove
To keep my little "trademark" here at KMC, I think it high time to start getting people excited about films coming out in 2009. I was inspired to do this right now as I learned about the fact that the new Star Trek movie was moved to 2009. So here we go!

As a primer, I'll notify you that as the thread progresses, I use colors to note certain kinds of films. Blue means I, Strangelove, am interested in this movie. It's my thread, I get to do that. Green means that either the film is new to the list, or the release date has changed. Red means the title has changed in some way. Italics means that the film will be in limited release only. I also use (parentheses) when a film title has a comma in it and I don't want people to be confused.

Avatar does look promising. I'm waiting for James Cameron to release some pictures from it.

Impediment
As much as I love the idea of a Watchmen movie, I know that it will most likely end up a flop just like the rest of Alan Moore's adaptations.

I hope everyone knows that the Avatar movie isn't based on the Nickelodeon cartoon and an original idea.

How are they going to do Warcraft in one movie? That'll have to be a trilogy with each movie being 3 hrs long at least.

NATM2 would be cool, the first one was pretty good, considering most US films.

Eurgh, Lovely Bones is being made into a film? I absolutely hated the prose style of that book.

Impediment
I heard a lot about the novel. It seemed interesting enough to read, but I never got around to it.

I died a little on the inside when I saw the trailer for the Live-Action DRAGONBALL movie. Same applies for the Street Fighter: Chung Li movie. I'm gonna defend Michael Bay here for once. I think that the Transformers franchise is perfect for him, personally. People always give him shit but he's actually a pretty talented action director. I mean, if you look at his filmography, none of his films are groundbreaking, but nearly all of them are entertaining action films (The Rock, Armageddon, Bad Boys 2). And what do people want in a Transformers film? An engaging intellectual story? Hell no. People want to see big ****ing robots taking each other down and the occassional shot of Megan Fox looking hot. That's what I expect and Bay's the perfect director for that. Just be glad he isn't directing a Charlie Kaufman script or something. Anyway, point is, this franchise is fun, disposable action.

As for Underworld, I guess the same could be said, although I think those movies are less fun. The first two were decent vampire-action films, I haven't had the urge to see the third, I'll probably see it when it comes out on dvd.

I do, however, think that there are people who think these are the best films out there, which is simply wrong. But for someone like me, who I'd say has good taste in film, what's wrong with disposable fun every now and then?

And no, these films are not the epitome of poor filmmaking. Watch Uwe Boll or something and then tell me Michael Bay is a poor filmmaker.

I can't wait for Transformers 2!

The film making of Transformers was amazing. The story may not have been good, but the way it was filmed and all that was top notch. It wasn't made to have a deep message or anything...it was made to be a live action transformers movie.

I still want to see NATM 2

Urgh, the sex scene in Underworld 3 was cringeworthy, what was with that over the cliff edge rubbish. Oh dear... Still it was better than Evolution... Just to note, I don't love the Underworld movies.

Waiting for The Fast and the Furious 4 released

Kovacs86
I thought it had been, though I can't see why anyone would want to watch that crap...

It's probably not released in the posters country yet. I'm seeing it next week, for free though.

some stats you may be interested in:

- Top active site with most emotions invested in the movie is yahoo.com

- Fast & Furious still has a high share of all conversations about movies, but its share of negative and positive conversations is medium. Comparatively, Fast & Furious has a disproportionate amount of neutral conversations.

- People across blogs, review sites and message boards think this is an average movie but people really like the story

- Conversation levels for production quality is decreasing, but sentiment is increasing - becoming more positive, but focused, than before!

- The overall ratings by unaided social media are much lower, closer to aggregated critics scores, than pure aggregated user votes yahoo, rotten tomatoes, IMDB and others.

Ok, I now have a new must see film, quite possibly one of my most anticipated of the year.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present: District 9

There is a topic in this section about District 9.

Kovacs86
It may well be the worst film ever. Donnie Darko is one of the least-sequel-able films ever. It's like making Fight Club 2 or something. It's just evil greedy corporate mother ****ers squeezing every last dollar from one great idea...

That and the fact that I'd already mentioned in in another version of this thread as well as several others.

MildPossession
That would be because of the time it was released in(it got a short release in some cinemas in America and didn't do very well apparently because of the atmosphere), something to do with September 11th. Donnie Darko got a cinema release here in Britain about two years later and people went mad for it. I got it when it first came out on DVD in America.

The sequel looks quite rubbish from the trailers.

Budget twice as the original? what did they use it on because the quality looks straight to video from the last trailer I watched, unlike the first film.

It's good seeing someone defend Michael Bay. I will have to agree with you. His films are entertaining. I actually own every Bay film (minus Bad Boys 2 which really was crap.) But I do pay to go and watch a huge blockbuster with a lot of action and a story I don't really have to think about... and MB delivers that every time. I secretly even enjoy Pearl Harbor. The action is awesome the girls are hot. I'm looking forward to Transformers 2!

Star Trek Paramount Pictures $288,715,220

Taken 20th Century Fox $221,549,992

Angels and Demons Columbia Pictures $195,620,564

Terminator Salvation: The film's total domestic gross as of May 28, 2009, is at $74,516,559 so this one doesn't count yet, hasn't been out long enough.

Now in the "Xmen Origins: Wolverine" post in this forum i wrote that Wolverine would be the highest action summer blockbuster film of 2009. And i was right and here's proof when everyone was telling me that i was going to be wrong. That Terminator and Star Trek would surpass it. I guess they were wrong.

And I said this about a month before the Wolverine movie release. And here's proof.

Star Trek's got a while to go yet, though, hasn't it? As for Terminator... you yourself said it hasn't been long enough, and yet you claim to be right. Absolute. Bollocks.
