What is your favorite fight depicted in a comic and why is it your favorite? And if you'd like, please provide a brief description.

I'll start.

My favorite fight was the Superman/Doomsday epic battle in the Death of Superman story.

Why did I like it? Well, Superman FINALLY met his match. In Doomsday, he faced someone who made him seem mortal and vulnerable. The fight was LONG...and there was a lot of action. Also, I liked the fact that there was no cheap gimmick used to end the battle as sometimes is the case. It was a fight that left the reader satisfied, with both fighters giving their all. There was no PIS to ruin it.

I had figured that Sabretooth vs Wolverine would've been your favorite.

I enjoyed it a lot. It was a fast paces battle displaying speed and agility. I thought it was very in character and well done. It also did not hurt that it was my two favorite characters.

Wolverine and Sabertooth has some cool battles, but I not even sure if a single one places in my top 5.

he a good enemy and I always enjoy there fights, but ive jsut enjoyed others better.

Come on! A fight composed of an entire issue of two page spreads? Thor hitting someone so hard he breaks EVERY BONE IN HIS BODY? Sound effects with seventeen "o"s in them, like "SKRATHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM"!? What's not to love?

Okay, Animal Man, Steel, and Wonder Woman come up with a plan to use the Purple Ray, disseminated through the Easter Islands' heads to give everyone on the planet Superman-level superpowers, powered by an inter dimensional super-speedster who "Ran perpendicular through time to the one place anyone made a stand against this thing!"
"We're making superhumans?" "With lightening and with chemicals!"
"Wonder Woman?" "And the armies of man, foretold in prophecy! We must not lose!"
That is how you write a f*cking comic book.

Lucifer versus Fenris the Wolf
A severely weakened Lucifer takes on the embodiment of destruction in a battle to decide the fate of all universes, in a brawl before the throne of creation. AWESOME.

Galactus, Namor, Iron Man (in the Red Ronin Armor) and Black Bolt versus the Third Celestial Host
A battle that is, at times, both SWEET AS HELL, and heartbreaking.

Batman versus Luthor in Dark Knight Strikes Again/Spiderman versus the Sinister Five in Reign
Same ideas in both of these. Two of my favorite heroes versus the principles of neo-conservatism? SIGN ME UP!

Swamp Thing versus the Great Evil Beast
After the armies of Hell, The Phantom Stranger, The Spectre, and Etrigan the Demon fail to even slow the GEB, Swamp Thing's sacrifice wins the day. As usual, brilliant work out of Mr. Moore.

Blue Beetle versus the Reach
"We never stood a chance."

Their first fight in one of the early Avenger's books when Hulk and Namor teamed up, heroes reborn Hulk vs Thor, Thor vs Mindless Hulk stands out mostly to me.

AdamWarlock vs Omega (great use of cleverness against completely overwhelming force)

Wally vs Zoom (moving so fast Superman doesn't have time to react, ending with Zoom staring at his girlfriend's death for years)

WWH vs Everybody (cause he's the goddamned Hulk)

EarthX Asgardians vs Celestials (just because Loki got to say "no. no. no. you're not really dead. we've talked about this."

Squirrel Girl v. Thanos

On-panel fights are for losers.

Sentry vs Galactus


Sentry stalemated him so says Parker and some fayboys. So, it must be true. However....he did lose to WWH.

Spider man vs Venom (the issue where Venom kidnaps Spider man and hunts him on an island)

Orion Vs Darkseid- their fights are always classic

Spawn vs Malebolgia- who could forget the image of Spawn holding malebolgia's head after Angela is killed.

Infinity Gauntlet- Thanos plowing through earths heroes.

My top five:

1. Elektra vs. Bullseye in DD Visionaries Vol.2 (when he killed her... that was an amazing, brutal, heartbreaking and dramatic fight)
2. Ultimate Captain America vs. Herr Kleiser in Ultimates Homeland Security (talk about ownage. From both sides)
3. Daredevil vs. Punisher on the roof in the Typhoid Mary saga (very realistic-looking) OR their bloody finale brawl at the end of the DD vs. Punisher storyline (where they both got seriously messed up.)
4. Superman vs. Doomsday in Death of Superman (epic.)
5. Batman vs. "Jason Todd" in Hush (left me gawping, basically.)

I agree with Martian Mind that Batman vs Red Hood was really good

I like, to name a few, in no particular order.......

Daredevil vs Bullseye in Daredevil #181
Wolverine vs Sabretooth at the climax of the morlock massacre
Spidey's first fight with Molurn
Xavier vs Magneto in the first arc of Ultimate X-men

and several others, but my favourite fight scene of all is The Ultimates vs the Chitauri/Skrulls at the end of the first volume of Millar's run on Ultimates. It has absolutely everything ranging from full scale alien invasion being withheld by the avengers and the army, navy and air force. You have ultimate Cap and Samuel L Jackson, I mean Nick Fury vs an evil Nazi alien and you have Thor vs the end of all creation!!!!! Brilliant!!!!

Odin vs. Thanos was one of the best. No PIS or CIS got involved, and both gave it their all. I know Thanos fans still carp about the ending, but it was a great display of the Titan's fighting spirit.

Any fight between Superman & Captain Marvel is great.

Batman vs. The Mutant Leader from The Dark Knight Returns - Round 1 & 2.

Virtually all the most powerful heroes(coming down to Earth-2's Superman) vs. The Anti-Monitor in the final issue of Crisis On Infinite Earths.

Punisher's first encounter with the Russian - brutal yet funny.

Odin's first modern age standoff against Surtur, from Walt Simonson's THOR days.

Whenever Thor goes all-out in armour & belt of strength, to challenge a Celestial like Exitar.

Wolverine's fights against Deadpool - amusing because Wade annoys him so much.

I liked the Thanos ig battle when he took out all the heroes. I liked the Thanos vs Odin fight. Superman Prime on multiple occasions. When he first showed up on earth and was punching peoples heads off. I also liked when he turned on the Sinestro Corps and was killing both sides.

Also, when DD fought Fisk in Bendis/Maleev's Hardcore story. That was plain brutal, with a great running mental monologue by DD as he pummelled Kingpin.

But why the hell did the art style change halfway through? That was annoying; I preferred Maleev's gritty, inky style, suited the fight better.

Gotta through in the Darkseid vs Orion fight as they put to death the old Kirbyesque Seid and Orion and finally paid their respects to the prophecy.


Classic Seid as we know it is dead and the last time we will see him will be in death of the new gods 8.

The new badass Seid will be here shortly. Times definitely are a changing. I wonder if anyone else is worried about Darkseids new look and that it wont be as cool.

I haven't read any battle in a comic that I liked better than BRB vs Stardust (thats how the Thor vs Surfer battle would be if they fought for real).

Superman vs Doomsday is alright in the concept level, but the art was horrible.

When Hulk was war there was a rad battle with Absorbing man...

really? because i read the trade with high hopes, having heard things like "it was epic," and i was completely unimpressed. the whole storyline was a setup for the relaunched martian manhunter, and black adam really just hit a bunch of people a bunch of times. him murdering everyone in an entire country, which i didn't even see, was a better fight than the finale of WWIII.

The more recent World War Three was just god-awful.

Especially considering how AWESOME JLA World War Three was. If there's anything fun to shout at parties when everyone's drunk it's "THE TERRAIN ITSELF IS TECHNO-ACTIVE!"

CAPTAIN MARVEL VS SUPERMAN *Kingdom Come*

I always had a soft spot for this battle. It had alot to do with what was at stake during the battle. As much as i wanted Captain Marvel to pummel Supes there was a certain sense of desperation in Supermans action. The Fact that he had to use his brain rather than brawn to halt Marvel's onslaught. This was the one fight between them that Marvel had the definate upper hand.
Think about it. The one man who could keep Superman at bay while the Nuke is on it's way. <--why did that rhyme.

Pretty much any fight, except Ronan vs Eradica during Annihilation was great.

Er....I don't think so. Spiderman,at his old classic levels, is still physically, way above Fisk

I honestly don't think there is much (if any) difference in strength or speed of current Spidey compared to pre OMD Spidey.

Many Marvel Super Heroes VS Thanos in Infinite Gauntlet

It wasn't the longest battle, but my all time favorite fight was when Galactus defeated the Sphinx in an issue of the Fantastic Four, it was also at a time when John Bryne was at his best.

that giant-sized treasury was AWESOME!! but i don't think superman actually moved. the whole thing was in doubt, and we were at the climax when it was interrupted. i'm pretty sure it was never revealed whether hulk could have moved the immoveable, pre-c superman . . .

but it WAS frickin' cool!

IIRC, Superman raised his right arm to block a Hulk punch (same panel when the outcome was stated to be in doubt). That blocking movement, and the narration, strongly suggested, IMO, that Hulk was catching up...superfast.

Gladiator vs Thing. One of the greatest ass-whuppings of comic history.

New entries (not best ever maybe, but top of the recent ones) for me include:

Aquaman vs Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and then all of them against Ocean Master and the Atlantean Army (JL 16)

Aquaman vs Ocean Master (JL 17)

Justice League vs JLA (JL 22, JL 6)

Three Thors vs Gorr (Thor God of Thunder)

Orion vs Superman (current Superman v3)

JL vs Darkseid and Parademons (JL 1-6), yeah the story was meh but the fight was spectacular.
