A Dollars Worth?

Since the War on terrorism started back in 2002 or 2003 or something... The American dollar has steadily been declining in value. I know 100pennies equal 97yen in japan. so 1 dollar is equal to 97Yen. Make sense? I just heard recently that even the canadian dollar is worth more now than the american dollar. 3 cents more in fact. so 1 american dollar is worth 1.03 canadian dollar. Now I may be wrong on the canadian dollar fact but the point I'm trying to make is. American money isn't worth what it used to be.
That being said, What do you think could be done to fix this problem...
(I.E: Which president would be best to solve this issue, or what could be done with gas prices, or what could be done for the declination of the American economy?)
Any ideas?

They are for non-interventionism, which, the last 7 years of war should have shown, is not a bad idea. Ron Paul as well as real libertarians are all for trading with everyone by fair means, which, indeed, does wonders for an economy.

who gets to define fair means?
"open" trade did not do wonders for a lot of Latin and South American economies, nor South-East Asian

I believe "open" trade would be smart for countries like the US or Germany. I don't know much about the situations in South America though, how open is their trade really? Can you enlighten me on what you mean, please?

Moving to Canada might help. I like to be where the dollar is good.

Iran stopped accepting the USD for barrels of oil yesterday.
The Iran president said it was a waste of paper or something like that... this is screwed up

It's declining because of the Euro.
We laugh at the idea back in the late 90s...but it did paid off.

We shouldn't do anything: if the dollar falls low enough, then all the illegal immigrants will go home.

I found out the other day that Ron Paul endorses Intelligent Design. It's quite a conflict of interests for me, since I agree with him economically but not on that and a few other social issues where he seems to pander to the religious left more than anything else.

Absolutely agreed. There are many issues he endorses I am opposed to his ideas. To me he was the best candidate of the large parties, but he is not in any way my ideal politician.

ah right..so they're up for exploiting countries for their own economic benefit but not doing anything to help when those countries collapse?
trading "fair"...haha...i've never heard such nonsense in all my life...if a government enforced fair trade goods on it's population, thus increasing the prices of everything, they would be turfed out of office quicker than you could blink....the poorest people would be unable to afford it (i saw this myself on a daily basis as i worked in a supermarket in a poverty ridden area for 11 years)
the US economey relies on raping the economies and enforcing idiotic sanctions on those who dont trade with them....even their supposedly biggest allies...the UK for example, had a US embargo placed on cashmire wool imports from the UK because UK supermarkets refused to source bananas from US owned plantations....that's how the US plays it's "fair trade" policies for it's own end...and that's how it would have to continue for the US economy to have the remotest chance of staying reasonable

Err, why do you think products would be cheaper. Somehow it more seems like they'd be cheaper, really.

So you think the United States could not compete in any way with anything if they wouldn't put embargos on many foreign countries? Well, I doubt that is true, but for the sake of argument, what would you propose should happen then to stabilize the economy. You don't like the libertarian approach, fair enough, what's your solution?

Being a bullshitter, depending on its employment, is a good thing...I don't think you gab, though.
My post was also a reference to a previous conversation that Robtard and I had about his piss and vinegar status as it pertained to the future.

Does anyone think America will take the path of the europeans and combine currencies? For example combining the American dollar with the Yen and peso or something? any input on that?

Why would the USA even care about there low dollar, China will still keep it's wheels spinning until things change.
And for who that will handle the job best I'm not sure, If the way Bush has handled the Economy is basic line of thinking for Republicans then imo not McCain and seeing from my perspective Clinton and Obama are more ore less suggesting doing the same in there Economy so...

I dont know either. I would think that Americans would like to get less for their dollar too

Utrigita
I like the low dollar makes it attractive for me to buy things from US
But right not the other way around, but the course of a given valuta isn't something that you just change, so you cannot change it back to the old setting which was what roughly 7.5 in my valuta where it's now 4,5

ragesRemorse
Perhaps its all a ploy much like them Chinese. The Government is purposely lowering the Dollars value to increase trade and tourism. I suppose the only flaw in this theory is that America doesn't export anything and foreigners already visit America in droves. Hmmm, i blame the Amero, yeah thats it. The Dollar will keep plummeting until Nafta unites the North american union and introduces the Amero. Or, maybe, just maybe its a bad time due to trade deficits and an over stretched war budget. I dont know, but there is no reason for a pack of oreo's to cost me $5 for a package. That is outrageous.
