LOTR was finished sometime in the early sicties I think... or fifties. Dunno exactly. I know the Hobbit dates to the 40s.

tolkien thought up the idea for the hobbit, a childrens story, during battle with the germans in world war one.

Star wars has plot hols and a big chunk missing between the PT and OT

the lotr book was better.
