From the darkest dephs of space looms a foe far beyond the ken of the human race, a horde without end, an enemy with no number, a singular creature composed of a billion-billion entities.

The hive mind Tyranid.

The entire species has set its eyes upon Earth, a rich picking full of fresh and unique bio-matter.

Who takes this ?

Define 'worse than the Zerg'. Let's go with pre-Hom.

TricksterPriest
Zerg conquered a galaxy or two. They're a hivemind lifeform with psionic powers and high speed evolution. They also infest and drain planets of their resources. They assimilate lifeforms and make them into new genetic variations suitable for their purposes. They also live in a vacuum and have chitinous armor plating equal to most technology. Not to mention their natural weapons as well. They also have billions of soldiers.

How strong is the average Tyranid?

You just described the Tyranid pretty well, however their much larger ( a galaxy sized fleet is hinted to merely be scouts for a full-scale invasion).

Just Zerg on a larger scale? Rut roh. I can see them taking out alot of earth, but there are a few guys like Doom or Reed who could do real damage if they get a chance to prep. Magic users are the big problem. The high enders like Strange and Talisman could stop them cold. Assuming they're not current forms.

Some people like Magneto could be a problem. But the Tyranid might win by sheer attrition.

Tyranids = what the Zerg want to be when they grow up.
A Hive Fleet usually number into the trillions for ships, let alone the number of passengers on each cruiser/drone/kraken.
