I was surprised we didn't have a thread for this already.
Wanted is a six-issue creator-owned comic book miniseries, written by Mark Millar with art by J. G. Jones. It was published by Top Cow in 2003 and 2004 as part of Millarworld. It features an amoral protagonist who discovers he is the heir to a career as a super-villainous assassin in a world where such villains have secretly taken control of the planet

Short series, but awesome series.
The movie, though, in my opinion, was abysmal, especially after reading the series itself. Mark Millar, the creator, views Hollywood as a "fun hobby", so evidently he wasn't super serious about keeping to the main storyline.
There's a couple quotes I love, a couple characters I love, and a couple costumes I love. Mainly Killer's (Wesley Gibson's).

Shoulda starred Eminem and Holly Berry
Eel O'Brian
Lol... Millar claimed that Eminem pleaded for the role, as a joke. Eminem was pissed.
And yeah, Fox was obviously modeled after Halle.
Another note...
In the movie, when they're talking about who "Cross" has killed, I'm pretty sure they say something about how he just killed "Rictus"..
Also, in the last scene, the nametag for the cubicle beside decoy-Wesley reads "J.G. Millar", obviously referencing Mark Millar and J.G. Jones.

In like the movie, now I will read the graphic novels

I loved the series. I'm seeing the film tonight.
I'm going in without expectations, though. I knew since before the very first trailer that the movie and the series were two very separate things.

I freaking adored the series. It's quintessential Millar when he's "on."
That said, I'm kind of separating the film from the book; going to try to see it as its own piece rather than a derivation.

My opinion from a review thread.....

Synopsis
Wesley Gibson is a loser. Both his parents are apparently dead and his life absolutely sucks, that is until he finds out he is the son of the world's most deadly assassin. unfortunately to earn his dad's will Wesley must take up in the family business and join a society of Super villains who have secretly been ruling the world since 1986.
Good/Bad?
I'll start with the easy side, art. Art = Fantastic. J.G Jones is amazing.
The plot is much more difficult to review. The storyline and concept is brilliant. I loved Mark Millar's Ultimates, Civil War and Chosen (In that order) and this story is almost as good. Almost. The main character (The guy in my sig) is pretty badass. there are tons and tons of fight scenes balanced with a pretty decent plot. However I didn't like the overuse of swearing. Usually I'm not bothered or couldn't care less about swearing in comics, but I thought this series over did it to the extent I struggled to find a page without someone using F's an B's. I can understand why someone would use it to try and be cool but it was far too much. Also as absolutely fantastic as the plot was, I didn't like the ending. The storyline progressed at a great pace and the action scenes were really enjoyable but there were a couple of occasions where I could think of better ways of writing the story for much greater plot twists but maybe it's just my opinion. Overall a really fun read.
S.S.S?
9 = I love this comic/trade/story arc enough to carry around in my utility belt wherever I go.

If you're being serious, the movie was decent up to a point. Then it failed, because by that point it was relying completely on its own plot and not on Millar's writing.

thats what i liked about it...it wasnt trying to be like the first hulk movie...meaning acting like its smarter than continuity...they didnt spend the whole movie making him all emo and introspectivy....sure it was a strong departure from the comics but i think it stood quite well on its own

I just watched the movie. IMO On it's own it was at best "meh" if you switch off your brain and when it's compared to the comic, the comic is about a thousand times superior
But that's just my thoughts....

It surpassed all expectations. One of the highest opening weekends of any R-rated movie of all time. Hell, even Wall-E only made a few million more, and it was rated G for christ's sake.

I'm not saying it shouldn't have branched off, because what's easy to accept for your average comic reader, might leave your average movie watcher going "huh?".
Things like villains taking over the world in secret, and a character composed entirely of feces are things that are easy to comprehend for a comic reader with time to take it all in, but can leave a newcomer watching the movie in the dust.
That being said... it was still far inferior to the comics.
