Are The Dark Knight fans becoming really really annoying?

I liked The Dark Knight, I thought it was a very good movie, I mean it was no Big LeBowski or anything . . . but damn, it's just a movie. Sure it beat a bunch of box office records and whatnot, but it's a film. Yeah, I get excited about other movies, but damn, some people are acting as if The Dark Knight is a better action film than the first Die Hard.

Discuss. hmm

Bardock42
What is this LeBowski you speak of? Sounds French.

=Tired Hiker=
Naw, it's a Nihilist film, I believe it's German.

chillmeistergen
They annoy me to no end, this place has become flooded with f*cking Joker sig and every thread I read has a mention of that pissing film.

It's mainly the OTF crowd, who seem to absolutely adore bandwagon behaviour anyway. There'll be something else in a few weeks, I hope.

"Becoming"?

They always have been, in my opinion.

Maybe the next Bond film.

It happens.

Halo, Grand Theft Auto, The Dark Knight, The Beatles.

It happens in every avenue.

I been looking forward to it since it was announced, and thought it was great when I saw it. If someone didnt like it or doesnt like they hype(which is too high), I dont care, I never understood a fanboy's need to defend whatever their chosen fetish is. roll eyes (sarcastic)

Dark Knight sigs ARE becoming annoying.

Croatoa
Heh, yeah, you guys love 'em.
I like to imagine that it's the people, young and old, who look on the IMDb Top 250 and claim that a superhero is finally getting the recognition it deserves in film. But they should shut up.

Which will probably be just as annoying. Any other decent actors who really didn't do all that much in their short career die after a filming?

chillmeistergen
It most definitely does not deserve to be at number 1 on imdb's top 250. It wouldn't even make my top 20.

Number 1... so you mean it's taken over things like the Godfather films and so on...

<---- had Joker poster for ages before all the sigs started turning up. Mine is mostly because I adore the imagery. stick out tongue

Röland
I've yet to seen the movie, but I have been looking forward to it since the end of Begins.

I'm sure I will enjoy the movie but when I saw on IMDB that it has been ranked as #1 over other fine films like Clockwork Orange, Godfather and Godfather II, Schindler's List, etc. I was amazed at how easily it got to #1.

The diehard fans are a little annoying, but who am I to tell someone that they can't be a fan of something?

Devil King
It's one of my favorite movies, but I haven't voted in any polls. I've had a Joker avatar for over a year and I've 86'd it. I loved the movie, I think it deserves a lot of the praise it's getting but I'm kind of like a 14 year old goth emo girl because I think everyone else who loves it is stupid for loving it for the wrong reasons or they don't really understand why it's so good.

But, except for this thread, I don't think I've discussed it outside the Batman forum. But I was under the impression that was what the Batman forum was for.

Robtard
In your eyes, why was it "so good" as to deserve an overabundance of praise?

Devil King
There's no shortage of posts by me in the Batman forum that explain just that.

i decided to test how rabid TDK fans that i knew personally were by announcing on one of my social networking profiles "the dark knight blows goats" and seeing what response i got....i got 9 replies from people saying "no it doesn't it's ****ing great...blah blah blah"...the irony being that only 2 of those 9 had actually seen it

I think, with the lack of good movies so far this year, TDK has a lot of people excited because it is one of the very few quality movies to have been released in 2008. I really enjoyed it and while I wouldn't call it the greatest movie ever, I was thinking after I saw it "finally, a good movie," after seeing so many shitty ones this year.

Add to that the death of Heath Ledger/his hyped up portrayal of the Joker, the intense viral marketing, and the fact that Batman Begins had a decently large following and I'd say it's pretty easy to see why there are so many fans of the movie right now.

So to answer your question, "Are The Dark Knight fans becoming really really annoying?" I would have to say "no." I mean seriously, the way people are responding to this movie is nothing compared to the fanboys of so many other things out there who've been annoying as hell for a much longer period of time.

I think this movie deserves the recognition and response it has recieved. Of course there will be annoying fans, but overall, I just say let it be.

I can see where you are coming from and I can only disagree on you with a few points such as there being so many shitty movies this Summer. I think this Summer has been a great one, especially compared to last Summer with crap like Spider-Man 3, Pirates 3, and a mediocre Harry Potter 5. This Summer, Iron Man was great, HULK was very good, Hancock was surprisingly good, I've heard good things about Wanted, and you already know I loved Hellboy 2. And yes, The Dark Knight was great as well, and I do want to see it again before it leaves theaters. As far as letting it be, all the fan hype, how can I? What else do I have to do right now? I'm at work, I got some down time, why not get in some discussion about The Dark Knight and how the fans are annoying me? It's okay, it's not like I hate them, I just find them annoying and wanted to make a thread about it. I can do that. I have every right. I am an American. Go Joe! And SnakeEyes, you and I have always gotten along well, and I don't want this to ruin that, so take my banter with a grain of salt. I do like The Dark Knight.Originally posted by WrathfulDwarf

You're right, there've been some good summer movies (for me notably Wall-E and Iron Man), but I was more referencing they year as a whole. I can't think of anything memorable until Iron Man came out.

And I wasn't trying to question/challenge your right to start this thread, I think it's a fine topic, but I guess I was just attempting to justify the annoying Batfan behavior to help you understand so that possibly your annoyance-level could decrease. So really, I was just looking out for your best interest!

I did, because it annoys me that a bunch of people who have probably seen nothing else from the imdb top ten list, go on there and mindlessly rate such a film a ten. thereby pushing a really good film off the number one spot.

For me Metacritic is really good when it comes to the video games. When it comes to movies...they aren't as good. Rotten tomatoes is pretty good with movies reviews.

My take...

..I don't need tomatoe metters or imdb top 10 or some countdown to determine if I'm going to enjoy the film or not.

I think people who love countdowns or top ten of anything and also consider them flawless.... are far more fanboyish than fanboys themselves. When some one ask for my favorite top ten films...I usually note that they're not in any specific order. I like to keep them in no particular order.

Master Crimzon
Lies. The worst are LotR fans...

Just look at the amount of hate-mail people have recieved from giving negative reviews to the LotR fans. It's sad, really- I mean, c'mon. Sure, I actually love the LotR movies... but they get extremely boring at certain points.

That being said, however, I haven't actually watched The Dark Knight yet, but I can assure you that a huge amount for the acclaim it received is Heath Ledger's death. People feel bad giving that movie bad reviews... but, aside from that, I don't believe it's fair to call the Batman fans around here "Ubwr fanboyz!!!" just because they happened to LIKE the bloody movie. A huge amount of the reason for people liking movies is because they like its theme. I'm an SW fan- doesn't it mean I'm gonna love a Star Wars movie 'cause it's STAR WARS? It's everyone's right, lol.

And to respond to the OP... I have no doubt in my mind that TDK is gonna be better than the first Die Hard. And besides? Why don't movie likes the Godfather, Schindler's list, and stuff like that be dismissed as 'just movies'? Why doesn't TDK deserve to be acclaimed like these movies?

I did, because it annoys me that a bunch of people who have probably seen nothing else from the imdb top ten list, go on there and mindlessly rate such a film a ten. thereby pushing a really good film off the number one spot.

so, did you see that it was also rate one of the bottom 100 (if not the last one)

TDK managed to be both in 1st in the top 250 and somewhere around the ten bottom, at the same time
(On IMDB, I mean)

Generally that's a bit odd. Right up there with ****ing children and cannibalism on life humans.

It's seriously overrated IMO. It's a good movie but there were parts which really annoyed me. Batman's voice for example was the stupidest put-on voice I've ever heard. I can't believe the director let him get away with that. It sounds ridiculous and embarrassing. Aside from that, the movie was too long and there was too much going on. Not concise. The script was great, and Heath was very good.

Just got back from seeing it at the cinema. A lot of things annoyed me to no end, the music for example, it seemed to be going on in the background constantly, it's supposed to be there to build tension, but a lot of the time it did the opposite. Secondly, the film had a lot of odd holes - like that Italian bloke that Batman threw off a building, I would have thought that was at least a broken ankle, but towards the end he just strolls into his car. Also, I've never read a Batman comic, but was it specified that once he gets into the suit he must begin talking like a pedophile with a throat infection?

Overall, the movie was quite good, nothing more. Ledger's performance was very good, though I still think he was better in Brokeback...

Robtard
I don't think that the comics or the cartoons ever specify Wayne changing his voice, but it's there to add realism. Though I do agree on it not being a good voice-change.

Agree with the Brokeback part, hands down his finest role.

Well, if I didn't jump then you couldn't say that everyone jumped, which would make me Adam in the new Eden. The only problem would be that there would be no Eve, so either I'd have to take one for the team and make sweet love to the most attractive monkey I could find, or I'd get playful with a dolphin and make the first Porpoisan.

Dreamreaver
I personally loved the film. Yes, I have some Batman imagery in my sig/avatar but that is from the graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns (the pinnacle of all Batman tales).

I do see where it has been run into the ground a bit. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was the best movie of the summer. I don't think it deserves to be ranked #1 on IMDB's Top 250 though. I would probably still rank it in my top 10-15 movies though. I mean, I'm a Batman fanboy but I try not to let the hype and craze surrounding the film cloud my judgment from rating it as a decent movie.

Mr Parker
That just shows you got to take in everything IMDB says with a grain of salt and not worship it or other sites like rotten tomatoes as the gospel truth like some people here do.that they do get information wrong at times.

Sure Dark Knight is a great movie and all,but to put it there as number one, well they kinda lose their credibility there doing that.Best movie of the year probably but all time? come one.Thats just as dumb as the people making ignorant comments that Indiana Jones 4 is the worst movie of all time they have ever seen.Maybe worst movie of the year but not worst of all time. Those people that say that are not being objective at all.Their just going by their dissapointment of how Indiana Jones 4 was since it didnt live up to the magic and greatness that the original trilogy had.

As time passes by,I would think they would come to to their senses and realise how ignorant it is to say its the worst movie of all time when there are far many more worse movies out there than Indiana Jones four.same with IMDB,with the passage of time in the months to come, hopefully they will realise how ignorant and foolish it was to rank it as the best movie of all time and that they werent being objective.

At first, no. I like it, but I wouldn't love it. However, as the reality of my situation became more acceptable, I'd stop thinking of it as an 'it', and instead see 'her' as my wife. We'd argue, we'd fight, but we'd also be tender, and I'd keep things sweet at home by going down on her once a week. Slowly, over time, I'd grow to love her and our beautiful porpoisan baby, Flippy.

You are a true man, I don't think I could ever live dolphins as you do. I could respect them, sure, maybe even admire them in instances, but love...no, never love. I take my hat off to you, well, I'm not wearing a hat, but if I did, I would.

I feel your respect, but you must remember that I am only making love to the dolphins so some part of humanity can survive in the post human-dominated world where I am the only surviving human after everyone else jumped off that bridge. I am left with a choice of letting our species die out completely when I succumb to old age, or propagating the continuation of part of our DNA by breeding, and loving, a dolphin. Show me a man who wouldn't do it, and I'll show you a selfish mammal fish-fish. You see, I'm a survivalist.

Well when the Italian guy did stroll into that car, he was actually hobbling about with a cane.

And the only reason for the pedo-ish voice, is so that he can conceal his identity. That's one thing a lot of super-hero movies miss, is that the super heroes forget to conceal their voices, and think that because they are wearing a costume, they'll never be figured out. Perfect example is Spider Man, holy shit.

See, that's where my selfless survival instinct shows me to be further along the evolutionary path than you; I'm out here splashing around with some cute dolphins, and you're under the bridge. It's OK though, I understand...Sometimes, I feel like I don't have a partner. Sometimes I feel like my only friend is the ocean I live in, the ocean of water, but lonely as I am, I still have the dolphins, and together we procreate.

I believe it was opening night of this POS that I served two high school-aged girls, and they left me a little note on a piece of napkin that said they didn't have any money for a tip. So they left me gum, a coupon, and some change... and to top it off, they wrote at the bottom of the note, "'Why so serious?' - The Joker" and drew a f*cking dumb face beside it. I've found the fans to be annoying from the very get-go.

OMG I could not agree more. The entire HYPE about this movie is bloody annoying...and an absolute phenomenon.

It was average AT BEST . The pencil scene was great. So was the coming out of the hospital in the nurse's outfit and blowing up the place , but does ANYBODY on another PLANET realize it doesn't make sense that all the hype actually DID get met?

I loved Heath Ledger as an actor overall. But seriously, how long does it bloody take to rehearse the same freakin' line: 'You know how I got these scars? Watch the original film. Do you seriously think he filled Jack Nicholson's shoes?

Again, I love Christian Bale as an actor overall. But what's with the dry Bruce Wayne performance...and WHY THE HELL does he sound like someone's tickling his tonsils while he's hitting puberty 9 times?!

They spend a million or so building the damn motorcycle , and they use it what...5 times in a 3 HOUR MOVIE? And use it to the least of reasons or effects at best.

I usually post in the anime section but this damned thing has me riled up. No offense to anyone who liked it , but this is the place to vent right? smile

Comparing it to all time profit and revenue 'pullers'? It was good...NOT a bloody milestone. What the hell is wrong with us? smile We paid!!

Heath Leadger...RIP sad

Don't really understand your first complaint, but Ledger and Nicholson played two different Jokers. To compare them is to take away from each performance.

I think Selphie has said this but he sounds like that so people don't recognize that he's Bruce Wayne. Bale's "Batman" voice could be less annoying, but I don't mind it since he does it for a reason.

Dark-Jaxx
I personally enjoyed HEath's performance more than Jack's, cause I like that kind of Joker better. no expression

Thank you for agreeing that the damned voice was annoying, but as far as it being a means to hide his identity....I'm sure Rachel can figure out who Batman is when he repeats dialogue that only the two of them know, normal voice or otherwise. Ref: something about how it's not what's on the exterior but what you do that defines you etc. etc.

But then I suppose he needs to hide it from the rest of the people so, point taken.

I suppose what's really irking me is how insanely well it's doing, and to keep the Threadmaster's respect; how annoying the fans ARE getting about things like, and this is verbatim,

'MAN, THE LAMBOURGHINI SCENE WAS OFF THE HOOK!' ~ my neighbour

A Lambo going really fast and then skidding...reason for $400 million in revenue and insane fans...give me at least THAT Roland! smile You are annoyed that a movie is doing so well?

No man...just this particular one for now...like I felt after watching the 'Titanic.' I'm perfectly happy with movies that, in my opinion, should be doing well. I understand why 'Braveheart' did as well as it did...or how well 'Casablanca' did back in the day.

I'm an Audio Engineer in Italy and and have a great time recording bands at a professional recording studio, happy that I was able to be Asst.Engineer for 'Korn's' album about a decade back . I live with my wonderful fiance of 6 years. I've got good art, architecture and history all around me, as opposed to the streets of Redmond, WA where I lived for over a decade . I just got back from Ireland, where I met my sister and went to the 3 day concert 'Oxegen', where there were 120,000 people and over 125 bands . I barbecue a mean steak. I'm FINALLY okay with being 33 years old, and one of my parents actually likes me! And the people I know are happy. She's doing her Architectural Design stuff or whatever on her computer, and I'm doing this 'coz I'm tired.

So thank you for feeling sorry for me. But you needn't. You only know me as 'agphoenix' and I only know you as 'Mairuzu'. When you say 'must have,' it makes it seem like we've been neighbours for years.

And we're spending our spare time either complaining about movies, or complaining about the people complaining about the movies! Doesn't say much about either of us, does it? smile
