I was happy to see who they casted for the turtle hermit, but...Goku...why? No, that is not Goku. I'm probably going to go see it, but odds are, it'll be to be a heckler.

Is there any reason at all that I should not despise what they did with this?

It's a 'classic' anime. I think it is best described as a bunch of steroid-munching superhumans talking pointlessly about how they are going to own their enemy, with it lasting for countless episodes- until, of course, the good guy gets a magical power up and beats the bad guy.

Yeah, it sucks when you watch it nowadays. And this movie is gonna blow, too.

Oo is that because I called it 'Childrens' Television', I just assumed it was because they showed it alongside Teletubbies and so on...

Now the issue with casting, I wouldn't say that's the case. I can believe the turtle hermit and Chichi I can believe. But when they put a gun in the hands of Bulma, all I can think of is Lara Croft and several scenes where Bulma is expected to pose in some fan-service-y position to make up for the fact that they're going to completely destroy whatever good Dragonball had.

Note I say Dragonball. Not Dragonball Z. To me, Dragonball GT was somewhat tolerable.

Oh, come on now. I used to watch it years and years ago and I'll admit, I enjoyed it then. Looking back now, the stories were predictable and and the dialogue was horrible. The fighting, well that was shit too for the most part.

You'd have a good 7-8 episodes of nonsense leading up to the fight and then all you'd see is a bunch of squiggly lines (used to depict the uber-speeds) spotted in with stills of someone getting hit here and there.

Vegeta will always be my hero though.

I agree, I was looking forward to the movie but then i saw the cast and wow did they mess that up.

and well...Pretty much all the characters, the only real exception being Master Roshi who looks alright despite bearing nearly no resemblance to the character from the series.

And there is also the fact that trying to remake the series into a Live Action movie in general is a bad idea IMO.

In the initial DBZ episodes, Goku wasn't that muscular/buff. He didn't start to gain a really muscular frame until after he died fighting his brother; he steadily become more muscular as the series went on.

He was still fairly built at the start of DBZ, not as much later in the series, but was still built.

Yeah, the director or whoever said that Goku is starting off in Highschool. First of all this isn't F'n spider-man. Second of all Goku is too flippin' stupid to get to highschool. I'm just glad they haven't had the chance to mess up Vegeta yet.

I was hating it at first but It's growing on me.

I dunno just looks very forbidden Kingdom esque to me. So I figure it'll be cheesy but the action will probably be good. And I've started to like Piccolo's appearance to an extent. I'm sure about everyone else will hate and bash it but frankly my dear I don't give a damn.

This movie should be good for a laugh or two.

Why the hell isn't Piccolo being played by a black man? I swear S.L.J. would've been a way better Piccolo.

Out of everyone in the whole series he always died and had the worst death or just got utterly raped, even though he did whoop ass too. He was always the wise one that was usually angry. I said basically enslaved. I can't prove a voice from a manga. Nappa killed him badly. He had the worst death in the saiyan saga. by worst I don't mean something like it was a stupid death, I mean that he got it the worst out of all of them. Frieza basically tortured him in his 3rd form. In the movies, though non-canonical he got his ass beat the worst. Broly punted his ass then blasted him after a beating.

There were/are two (English) voice actors that did the voice for Piccolo; both men where Caucasian, the first was an Australian, the second an American, so not so sure there was an intended "black voice" for Piccolo as you claim.

The rest of what you claimed, worst death, enslaved etc. is just shit and the series is there to prove it.

You're right because Tyrone Biggums sounds like a crackhead. A black voice doesn't have to be all deep and brody, but you can sense it with the attitude and overall tone. Think Michael Clarke Duncan, that's a black voice, I think with enough training he could possibly do a decent piccolo voice. Am I saying he should play him? Hell no way too big for that roll.

You said Piccolo is supposed to be black, based on his "black voice" (and a few other "facts" of yours), then you brought up MCD as an example of a "black voice", why would he need to practice to do a "black voice" for Piccolo, if he already has a "black voice"?

I have. The fact that this exists period is enough to make me dislike it. I rarely watched DBZ, let alone care enough for a movie. I would've actually like a CG animated movie, even a really well done animated movie than this.

Dunno, if that trailer is even in parts true it seems like they threw everything over board which made Dragonball unique, hilarious and great. Judging from pictures, the trailer, and what was written about it, it's just going to be a standard actiofn movie, maybe it's going to be good at that, I don't know, but it won't be good for the reason Dragonball was awesome.

Wow that wasn't melodramatic at all. First of all as I've stated several times the trailer IS NOT DONE. And besides that what does it even matter? The Super Mario movie was ten times worse than this could ever be and I don't loathe Mario now.

AICN has the first review of the film up.Don't know if it's been posted here yet,but from what I read it gives me a lot of hope.He said it was an almost finished version,but was the basic meat and potatoes of the film.

Here's hoping most of what he said was true.

I've been a huge Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z fan since I picked up the manga in Japan in 1991. What I'm hoping for is a good action movie based on the Dragon Ball stories. Wanting for an exact duplication of DB and DBZ is not very realistic. But imagine the Wachowski brothers doing the Freezer and Cell sagas!

That's not even the only example--Jake Gyllenhal (of all people) worked out for the upcoming Prince of Persia film (he says he's gonna let himself get fat after it's done with though). I mean, if they weren't gonna have Chatwin work out extensively to fit the character, they could've just gotten...I don't know, the guy from Smallville or something...

You're right, it wasn't Justin Chatwin in Forbidden Kingdom. I forgot the kid's name, but I always recognize him as a nerdy(er)-looking version of Shia LeBeouf.

Actually, it's a funny coincidence about Dragonball and the Forbidden Kingdom. They both have to do with the Chinese myth "Journey to the West" (TFK acts as a prologue of sorts, DB is based on the myth).

To me it looks pretty dreadful. It seems like they have lost what made dragonball great. This just looks like a random action movie.

I concur with everything you said except that I refuse to watch this so- called movie.

The choice for Goku (Kakarot) is atrocious and Ive already seen how jacked up the story is going to be.

Whats even funnier is the fact that everyone is asain except the main character. If thats the case, why couldn't Goku be asain or at least African.

Ive read people fighting about this and I say this...if Goku is an alien, why is he caucasian? or is that how all aliens look?

Last I checked, aliens tried to kill Sigourney Weaver and they looked pretty sick.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I love the db, especially the dbz series more that any other anime show series, especially the cell saga, but I dunno if it'll suck. it may..goku looks like something outta "one tree hill" and marsters picollo looks just wrong. but i'm still gonna see it just cause it's dragonball, cause I love it, and I wanna see how this recreation happens.

I hope it does good. I hope it doesn't go the way of the "Fist of the North Star" live action movie.

I remember watching the "Matrix Revolutions" in theatres in 'o4 and viewing the final fight in between neo and smith and thinking "ok, a dragonballZ fight in a movie can be finally made well" with the way those 2 were fighting.

The movie doesn't look that bad. I don't know why you guys are whining so much.

If you go to the movie while not focusing on what was, then the movie will be much more awesome. It looks like I would rate it a 6 out of 10..maybe a 7 out of 10. Can't be that bad.

But you have, at times, revolting taste in movies.

The movie doesn't look "good" by any means. It looks like a mix of "Wanted" and "Spider - Man" with Dragonball references plastered on it....there's likely no way it's going to be better than those two, already mediocre, movies. If anything it might be a decent, dumb, action film, you could watch while surfing the internet and getting a blowjob...lets hope it is that...(especially the bj part).
