The Economy

Well, my friends, the United States economy on Wall Street dropped 777.68 points today. We've been seeing bank failures all throughout the US and Europe and no one knows what to do to save the world from a global depression, since we are already in depression.

Now to the question, what would you personally do, if you were the president/trade secretary/etc. to fix this mess?

Personally, I would actually promote a purely capitalist method: let the large banks fail, let the world go into economic slowdown, and have the system re-built naturally.

Also a side question; would you support the 700 billion dollar bail-out plan that failed in the house this morning?

AngryManatee
I would only support the 700 billion dollar bail-out plan if it had an added proposal of "divert .00001% of the amount to Brian."

I think some sort of bail out is probably necessary, but if you're going to use tax dollars to support failing companies, we should all get some sort of share in the company should it eventually turn a profit again.

As for the economy, I'd shut down as much international importation as possible by making tariffs sky high, and kick-start the American production companies, creating jobs and money for the people. International goodwill and likability would be at an all time low, but sometimes that's necessary. Rinse and repeat for all other countries.

Yes, but I don't think France's currency system is worthless. America's on the other hand is, so I don't think by printing more money we are going to solve anything whatsoever. If anything things will get worse over the next couple years.

EDIT- I heard that Congress was threatned with martial law if the bill did not pass. If that's the case then I'm not suprised the bill was passed after its second attempt.

Anyways we're in a circle. If we don't support the bail out then many people will lose their retirements. If we do then, maybe it won't happen, but I don't even believe it can be fixed because of all the greed. Of course we all don't want to pay to fix others mistakes. Our taxes are all ready overwhelming us and with all the foreclosures and bankruptcies how can a government squeeze blood from a stone. It cannot.

By deregulation. DUH! Even my retired, cotton-picking grandfather is saying McCain is a joke. He hates black people. He's even said they smell funny when they're in the operating room. It's ricockulous that he's preaching the furthurance of this party and people like yourself are wallowing in it. He's said that he'll be voting for Obama because his middle name is not Hussain. You might not realize how profound it is for my grandfather to vote democrat, but I do. He gave me my first shot gun when I was 10. He raised honey bees and grew his own vegitables up until last year. He watched his wife of 35 years die. He married a woman that had a 2nd wife who had a child who needed special care. That child paid her benefits directly towards her own heathcare. She didn't get a goddamn thing from her own government. What she got was a set of parents that have experienced the stupidity in this government that have motivated them not to vote republican.

How long did he have to reconsider the treacherous nature of the stock market? He invested his money in a stock market that has been allowed to run free without consideration of the 60 year old investor or his reasons for doing so. You've just just put forth the retiree that had faith in a stock market this administration has conidered so little that hes lost him money. Perhaps he should invest what little money he has left into the market that has seen fit to **** him over. De-regulate, de-regulate, de-regulate. Maybe next time the bankers will actually insert their cock into that average Amerian's ass! At least they'll be have a blood stain to show for it. Bloody panties mean something.

KidRock
But how are these higher dividend taxes going to help the old retirees living off their stock dividends along with their IRA's?

Or do all retirees fit into that 5% Obama said he would raise taxes on?

If it is dividend income (not from a retirement plan) it would be subject to the dividend tax.

If it's a payment from a retirement plan it's taxed as regular income. and exempt from the dividend tax.

I think the only ones who benefit from this tax (or any) being higher is the government

I'm no expert but I think that is how it works.

I'm curious as to what "blatantly obvious truth" you are referring to. I've looked over several posts before and after his post and I'm having a hard time finding what you are referring to. I could be an idiot and you're referring to the inter-dimensional reptilians, but i highly doubt you were referring to that.

Personally, I think that that meeting between Henry Paulson and the heads of the top five or so banks was as much an Illuminati meeting as it can get. I was slightly distrubed about that meeting.

And, no, it's not everyone for his or her self. Major coporations have been making non-compete deals for quite some time. There's loads of other types of agreements that I can't think of that are made between the powerful people of the world.

lol

my problem with conspiracy theorists is that it normally adds an unnecessary level of complexity to situations.

Do world leaders plan policy at Bohemian grove? sure! Is it secret and anti-democratic? obviously! Is it satanic child sacrificing done by the truly evil? I think you see where I'm going.

Like, Bilderberg for example. Obviously very highly influential meetings where world policy is set. Just because it is secret, however, does not mean it is evil or that these people have any more control of the economy or the planet than it appears they do. The "secret rulers of the world" episode about Bilderberg interviews some of the people involved in the meetings, and they say that the secrecy isn't to keep "we the people" out, but to stop media whore politicians from making the meetings huge press conferences. Anyone familiar with how UN meetings turn out can see this as abundantly true.
