Let the Right One In

Poke Me

I'm not much for foreign films but this actually looks really good and entertaining...

MildPossession
It does look rather good and have wanted to see it for some time. An American remake is on the way from one of the guys involved in Cloverfield.

they just can't help themselves can they?

I find the amount of time now between an original release of a film and a remake getting made is ridiculous... REC/Quarantine is the only one I can think of that got a remake very very fast. Anyone think of a shorter time frame between two films?

jaden101
cant say i can...but it's not the time frame that bothers me...it's just the fact that they keep on doing it...and almost always **** it up completely

i can think of very few examples of when it was good...

the departed...
vanilla sky (half decent anyway)

and i can think of very few examples, good or bad, when it goes the other way and foreign films are remakes of english language films

the beat that my heart skipped

what annoys me is that the US had such a fuss over the writers strike last year and for what?...so they could churn out endless drivel?

i know it's a seperate debate...but how many hollywood films this year weren't sequels, prequels, comic book films, foreign remakes or adaptations of books, games or theatre?

take a look at this list and tell me it doesn't want to make you throw up and how much they plan on raping films from the past

MildPossession
Don't get me started on The Departed. One thing was the amount of times I heard people give credit to the part where Leo's character is shot in the lift , making it out as some amazing new thing when it was done in the original... Yeah it's Leo, but so what.... ughhhhhhhhh.

No more.

Anyway, looked at the list, it's quite an old list. Hopefully a lot of them will fall through.

You know what is sickening, Paul 'Resident Evil' Anderson remaking the classic British film The Long Good Friday, and moving it from London to Miami...

jaden101
indeed...and if there's 1 sequel i'm glad has fell through....Dog soldiers 2: fresh meat...

MildPossession
If only The Descent sequel following on from the stupid American version did too.

D-Wag
lets not get off topic now...

Dr. Leg Kick
I had no idea what this movie was about, and I purposely did nothing to find out more about it. The only thing I knew that this was a apparently a "really good film".

It seemed as though this was going to be just another slasher film (Halloween), but I was way off. It started slow, but the story really built up, and the pieces were coming together.

The directing was top notch, the film had a unique atmosphere and ambiance, and it was evident that there was a lot of effort put into the making. Some may find this movie to be very slow, and unorthodox. I won't give any spoilers, but all in all, I highly recommend this movie.

Prince Nauj
Ive been waiting for this movie so long Im happy its finally playing in town. Cant wait to see it!

Kris Blaze
Just finished watching this and it was one of the best vampire films, scratch that, best romantics I've ever seen. The actors did an incredible job and they're able to convey that child like innocence in an amazing manner.

Top score.

Some remake info:

Damn. They are going to completely screw this story up. The book was fantastic, and the movie did a great job of capturing the mood. The movie even left out certain parts that I thought shouldn't have been in the book in the first place.

I'm really not looking forward to the American version.

Finally got around to seeing this. It was a very good movie. Kind of 2008's Pan's Labyrinth if you will, in the sense that it's a foreign film revolving around a child (or children) with fantastical elements that's recieved a lot of critical praise.

I heard that Eli, the little girl/vampire is actually a castrated boy. Apparently the director and writer have both confirmed this in interviews. I did not pick up on that during the film, although I suppose it explains the quick shot of his/her genitalia. Anyone have any thoughts?

MildPossession
Her voice is dubbed in the film to sound more masculine.

The actress plays an androgenous person yes.

I recommend the film XXY, not a horror film, but an excellent Argentine film about someone who is like the thing in the spoiler.

That is correct. In the book, Eli is a boy who was castrated before being turned into a vampire.

BackFire
I just saw this, loved it.

It was a gorgeous film. Really impressed.

Neo_Version 7
The end was somewhat predictable but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Amazing movie.

That's so ****ed up.

Apparently, if you don't mind then do, but the subtitles are wrong on the Region 1 release DVD and Blu Ray from Magnolia for this film and they are going to have to sort it out.

Yeah I recently found out about this and am kinda pissed, considering I already bought the Region 1 dvd. mad

MildPossession
and you can't replace it for free. They are not replacing them, so if you want the original subtitles, you have to look for the Region 1 that says on the back with the subtitle options, theatrical. Along those lines.

Hopefully, here in England there will be no mistakes for the DVD release.

One of the main leads has been cast in the remake:

Kris Blaze
Remake....ffs...

MildPossession
They have some concept posters up already for it:

http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/07/13/let-me-in-movie-posters/

See they are going with the rubbish name Let Me In... oh and are 'going by the book and not the original film'. roll eyes (sarcastic)

Set in the snow covered mountains of a Ronald Regan-era Colorado, the Americanized adaptation is based not on the Alfredson film, but the original novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist. The character names have been changed to Owen and Abby (rather than Oskar and Eli), who will remain 12-year-olds despite gossip that the film might be teenized to take advantage of the success Twilight.

Selphie
Didn't really like this all that much.

The premise was cool, and fresh, but the only scary thing about this whole movie was the creepy looking Aryan kid who was the main character.

MildPossession
I just listened to that video Janx, well some of it because I turned off out of boredom(so if he corrects himself near the end then bla), that man needs to go and read the book.

Also, why does some idiot always have to bring up 'child porn' when there is a naked shot of a child/teen? did he fail to grasp what that element of the story was...

deathbycorn
No way I'm watching a bastardized remake of a deat-set classic artistic film.

Honestly, do you think the americans can create such an atmosphere?

It was set in Sweden - it should stay in Sweden.

This remake and Total Recall remake I could and never would watch - its a disgrace to the original film and the people who worked on it.

Probably has to do with him being an idiot.

MildPossession
Ha, yes, I did answer my own question there. smile

I can't see them finding such a good Eli either. The actress was brilliant.

Remake news:

This movie was ok. Maybe I would have liked it more if I was more into vampire stuff. My gf on the other hand is into vampire stuff and loved this movie.

The remake trailer is out now, easy enough to find on the likes of youtube. It looks like a shot for shot remake.

BackFire
I still say the name change is stupid.

Dr Mystery
Have to say I did'nt like this much, great atmosphere and very well made, but lacked something for me. Also, I found the whole "naked" thing confusing and am glad that it's been cleared up somewhat

CrowRoboto
Brilliant movie, one of my new faves.

Kazenji
Went to see it today great movie (Remake that is)

good return to vampires that actually has blood.

MildPossession
Well it's not really a 'return' since the original did it a few years ago...

BackFire
The remake is actually pretty solid I thought. Much better than I was expecting. They did a good job capturing much of the atmosphere of the original, and the two young actors were really good.

Not as good as the original, not even close, really. But it's a solid remake made by people who obviously have a lot of respect for the original.

Hence why i did'nt mentioned the original roll eyes (sarcastic)

MildPossession
You still said a return.

Anyway,

Yeah it's been doing well with critics and so on. And the lead actress I expect to be excellent, she was in Kick Ass. She is one to watch.

jaden101
Saw the remake tonight. Excellent adaptation of the original. Far better than I was expecting as I thought Kodi Smit-Mcfee was horrendous in The Road.

I was very impressed with his acting in this...And Chloe Moretz was also superb in this.

Highly recommend it.

jinzin
I actually liked the remake better... I don't know what it was... I saw the first one, and it.... well it bored me to be honest... and this one in spite of me knowing what was happening still had me uncomfortable and in suspsense...

Maybe it was the soundtrack? I have no idea.. though I didn't like the fact that some things were left out and further not explored. Interviews left me under the impression that the remake was going to get more into subject matter not explored in the first film from the book... and it didn't happen.. Makes me wonder what hit the cutting room floor so they could get the release. erm

Esau Cairn
John Ajvide Lindquist who wrote the novel of Let The Right One In has just written another novel about zombies called (I think) "Handling The Undead."

Maybe there's film potential...

MildPossession
Hasn't just, that's been out for about 2 years now. Worth reading.

Oh ok...it's just been released here in Australia a couple of months ago as a "new release."

On 2nd thought, maybe it was re-released with the American remake of "Let me In" hitting the big screen.

jinXed by JaNx
just saw the remake. Thought it was better than the original

Eon Blue
Love the original. Haven't seen the remake, yet.

Let The Right One In is one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. There's a reason it's me and my boyfriend's movie. smile

You like watching sexual tension between 10 year olds?

Close?

no_1_movie_fan
Let the Right One In is a superb film. It is so much better than Twilight. It's more than a horror. Themes such as identity, growing up, and social realism are touched upon sensitively.
The book is better, it is far more graphic and the films always tend to leave bits out. The remake will be a ruined version that I have no interest in watching.

Funny!

You, sir, are funny! I like how you automatically created a taboo scenario in your head to get the customary lol's. And the antagonistic persona? I could write a paper on it.
