Does Goku always use Kaioken?

I just wondered- does Goku use the Kaioken technique throughout the entire series? If so, does this mean that his base power level is actually much lower than Vegeta and Gohan?
Or to put it another way, if the other Saiyan characters knew kaioken, would they be stronger than Goku?
It would certainly explain Vegeta's failure to surpass Goku despite apparently training harder.

Gokou stops using Kaioken after he turns super saiyan. The last time he's known to use it is against Freeza..and he's being beaten.

But apparently according to the DB databook Tien uses it all the time.

I know that the last time he's explicitly said to be using it is when he's fighting against Freiza, before he turns Super Saiyan- but until Tien brings it up with King Kai, it's not apparent that he's using it- does it say in the manga that he actually stops using it, or is it just never referred to after the fight with Freiza? It seems odd that he wouldn't use it against Cell or Buu if it were possible.

TheBadguy
He never uses it after Freeza in the manga. its never mentioned for him.

Right, but does it ever say he stopped using it? I mean, why would he stop using it? And until Tien asked King Kai about it, it wasn't possible to tell if he was using it against Frieza or not. I haven't read all the DBZ manga, does it in say in that somewhere that he can't use kaioken as SSJ or something?

SSJ form makes it obsolete - it provides a much better powerup without any of the risks

He did use Kaioken once as a Super Saiyan in a filler, when fighting Pikkon in the Other World Tournament (I think it was just so he could escape Pikkon's Hyper Tornado Attack though. Don't fully remember anymore).

This is interesting: while fighting freiza, he was using kaioken and was therefore about equal to 25% freiza. However, in his base form he was much weaker than freiza, vegeta and picollo (which makes sense: how could he get that strong just w/one heal?). Once he gets back from Namek however, he supposedly wasn't using it anymore but somehow got stronger than picollo and vegeta in their base forms.

I just wondered why he would stop using it- sure SSJ provides a more effective power up with less risk, but the risk in kaioken only applies the first time that Goku uses it at a given level- after that he knows that he can safely use it like that. By the time that he arrives on Namek, he regularly uses Kaioken times 10, and goes up to x 20 when he needs to. So surely he'd also use it against Cell and Buu, for example?

Kento
It's probably just one of those things he either forgot or just didn't feel like explaining.

Yeah. Most likely the latter, and like power levels, I suppose Kaioken was another one of the concepts Toriyama decided to drop altogether after the Frieza saga.

Endless Mike
I think SSJ makes it worthless
