I would say Link, most of the Belmonts and relations, Samus, shanoa, and big boss.

Out of the list Ryu wins..Though Marcus and Chief are close. It can interchange between those three actually.

Solid Snake is probably the top imo though.

Solid Snake is the definition of badass.

There are lots of FF badasses...I don't think Genesis is in the top 3.

Sephiroth burning down Nibelheim was badass. Kefka taking shots from Bahamut to the face and later pawning him was badass. Squall and Seifer's fight in FFVIII is uber badass. And so on.

Max Payne and Kratos.

Er Kuja taking Bahamut's megaflare^ Not Kefka. My bad...was pawning Kefka in Dissidia.

Gouki, Rugal Bernstein, Iori Yagami, Donovan Baine and Revolver Ocelot.

You have to believe me, if you would have asked me yesterday if i had kratos on my list i would have sworn to it, because i thought i did. Trust me, kratos is my 2nd most badass character, right under dante.

Well in Portable Ops Big Boss has a personality of his own. He is not just a Solid clone. He formed his own team of mercenaries and started being a bit more Big Bossy--ugh. Like he fights and frees Grey Fox. Has Ocelot as a spy...All in all he is in control in Portable Ops.

You have to be pretty badass to mock and laugh at a giant 3 headed ice cerberus, and with pick up lines like his its kinda hard not to call him a badass, specially the fact that he fights in style....

Tadakatsu Honda from Samurai Warriors and just about any video game version of Nobunaga Oda has to make the top ten list imo. Not quite up there with Snake, Ryu Hayabusa, or Master Chief but close. Well Nobunaga is probably up there with them but.

Tadakatsu is not badass but Nobunaga is in like all 3 franchises I've seen him in. Sorry but I don't like Tadakatsu since he stole the Lu Bu role from Keiji Maeda who was one of my favorite characters and the best character in SW1. Its all good nowadays though seeing as the SW franchise doesn't really have Lu Bu character now seeing as Keiji, Tadakatsu, Toshiie and Musashi. Anyone that has played SW2: XL will know how muc of abeast and badass Toshiie has been made out to be.

You mean his stupid, cheesy, un-funny one-liners which is but one of the many reasons(hell, that may be the focal point of it) why I dislike his character and his entire overrated, mediocre franchise?

If you're talking about Dante from DMC3 with all of his Ninja Turtle quips and catchphrases then you are right. I loved in in DMC2 but 3 turned him into an annoying little cocky teenager. That first scene where he sticks a whole slice of pizza in his mouth killed it for me.

Mario is the top of this list.

Mario has been saving Princess Peach for years and never gotten more than a kiss on the nose, and is fine with that.

Mario is cool, but by default cannot be the most badass because of that.

Didn't play Kessen 1. I played 2 and 3 and 3 was awesome. I liked Hanzo at first but I don't like him anymore. Nobunaga is badass in Kessen 3, SW and onimusha.

I love Kessen 1, and 3. Never played two..Had no real want because it wasn't Japan. Kessen was what actually got me interested in actually learning Japanese history..even though I don't know a single thing about American History. lol Honda's catchphrase in Kessen one is why I think he is. 'Let my tonbogiri be your passage to Hell" then there is his whole legend that makes him just awesome in general. That's why Honda is one of my favorites.

Oda, Hanzo, and Yukimura were the people I usual play in SW. I want to play Warriors Orochi but haven't gotten around to it cause I can't find it for the ps2.

stupid, cheesy, and unfinny lines to you, and he maybe overrated (mainly in fighting skills hes overrated, but in badassness hes not) but to go as far as too say that hes just a pretty boy with a sword is just bs. I tend to think hes very badass, and since its my opinion why do you guys have such a big problem with that?

The Three Kingdom era is just as good a story as the feudal Japan era. I say that as an American who loves both Chinese and Japanese history more than American. Trust me if you like Nobunaga then you'll love Cao Cao. Once you meet Lu Bu then you'll see the greatest warrior to ever live and you'll forget about Tadakatsu. Warriors Orochi 2 is a cool game. A lot of extra characters in there from Japanese and Chinese legend. I enjoy playing as Goku aka Sun Wukong the monkey king.

Is he bad-ass just because he has the lancer? (Since you know... Dom, Cole, baird, and any random locust that the player can kill within 5 seconds, have thiem) Or is it because of his particularly bad acting?

Cole Train is more bad-ass than Marcus.

Cole Train's reintroduction in GoW2 was badass.

Such characters are MISTAKEN for badass.

Snake is not the son of a demonic warrior and doesn't have any super powers to aid him saving the world. Snake's determination to stop Liquid at all costs no matter his health is beyond being badass.

Please Dante doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Snake.

There really is no comparison. Thats where I disagree. Their completely different styles of badass but I consider both to be badass. Stuff like the final sequences of Devil May Cry 2, destroying demons with their spears still imbedded in his chest, beating the series equivalent of satan, the final boss cut scene in part 2 all are pretty bad ass moments but meh to each his own ( Snake eater to me was much better than 2,)

A true badass doesn't spit one-liners in an effort to appear badass. A bad ass just is, he doesn't pose. That's why Hyabusa, Fenix, Master Chief, Delta 38 et al will always be above guys like Dante in this category.

Master Chief pretty much kills Prince, Link, Ganondorf, and Ryu. It would be close but he still beats Marcus however I highly dout Samus would lose. One shot from her cannon and Chief is toast. In the books Covenant Plasma fire takes his shields down fast. A blast from Samus would annihilate him. Then you have Genesis, Dante, and Sephiroth. Dante and Sephiroth would have a good fight IMO and its hard to decide who would most likley win. Sephiroth beats Genesis however so in the end its hard to say

Samus, Dante, and Sephiroth.

But most people go with the person they like the best and not by skill level.

The only consensus to those feats is eye-candy; all style and no substance to show for it. This is something that's becoming more over-used in games than the "quiet and gruff badass" has been in most forms of culture. Rarely is it ever well-executed in gameplay either (if it ever is). That's what Final Fantasy VII had degraded into over the years.

Feats of characters like Kratos or Solid Snake aren't often taken to that high of a calibur, opting for more subtle means of showing what they're capable of. Yes, what one does matters, but how its done is more important, and for someone like Kratos, we see that he has the capacity of someone well-beyond any kind of ordinary human, but they don't have him take it to an unnecessary lack of realism; his superhuman feats have a little more backbone because he's actually serious without taking his character concept to the unnecessarily extreme, which, depending on the personality, can make the character intolerable. Now, I don't hold it against Dante, I like him just fine. He at least mellows out once in a while. Vincent, admittedley, is one of my two fave characters in FFVII. Reardless of what they did to just short of convolute his history, and as random an idea as it was in the first place, I'm glad he got some spotlight (though I don't enjoy the prominence of Yuffie in DoC).

There is no GTA protagonist more badass than Niko Bellic.

Haven't played GTA4 yet. I've heard that while it's still a great game, you can't do as much as you could in earlier games. What makes him so bad@ss?

The gameplay has nothing to do with the character.

Niko was an ex soldier who came to America to find and avenge the deaths of his friends at the hands of the man who betrayed his unit. He is skilled, tough and loyal to his friends and family. Not to mention his sarcastic jokes are good.

There is more to him, but I honestly don't remember much.

He has mad skills, able to easily disarm attackers with knives, and has real combat training.

He brutally and coldly kills anyone who fvcks with his family, in fact, his apparently "coldness" is noted by many characters in the game.

And he is funny as hell, in a sarcastic sort of way.

Now I'm gonna have to get it so I can then play lost & damned. This Niko sounds tough, but I'll have to see 4 myself in a a few weeks
