In a chess match, I see Richards win.

In a fight, one hour is probably not enough for even Richards to beat sumone as intelligent and powerful like Brainy. In fact, Brainiac would probably stomp Richards.

Intellectually, I see Brainiac as Reed's superior by a fairly narrow margin. However, the tech Brainiac starts out with is vastly superior to what Reed starts with - and that makes all the difference, imo.
