if you haven't picked up MI13 before, this would be a great point to join in, it's a great series.

Dracula and Dr. Doom on the moon in itself is pretty interesting:

I was kinda worried about how they would draw Dracula using his vintage look. I have to admitt, he looks f*cking scary as hell!

Cartesian Doubt
I really wanted to collect this in trade format, but if its going down the pan i might have to buy the singles. A bit annoyed that they've basically retconned everything Moore developed. I think Captain Britain as a sci-fi heroe fighting the mystical forces of evil, just makes the whole thing that little bit cooler. The greatest threat to the omniverse being the chaos of magic, which is basically irrationality made physical.

Trackz

paul cornell has also stated that it's not being cancelled.

...captain britain is a sci-fi hero...all theyve been fighting is mystical foes (save for the skruls...and they unleashed hell's demon on britain to defeat them)

tjcoady
The problem with writing a book Alan Moore did work on is you really can't follow what he did. You kind of have to do your own thing, or your run will just remembered as the "vaguely, kinda crappy Alan Moore-esque" part of the series, rather than something that could be awesome- like Cornell's run is.

Example: check out Swamp Thing. Everyone who tried to ape Alan Moore just wasted their time. Writer's who did their own thing (Mark Millar, for instance) turned in pretty cool pieces.

PLUS DRACULA ON THE MOON.

Just picked up the secret invasion arc for this in trade.....Contrary to rumours this series isn't being cancelled. One of the best trades I've bought in months yes I never thought I'd find anything patriotic about this country remotely interesting in literature but this series rocks.

Cap's new costume is amazing. I'm buying this arc in trade as soon as I can yes

EDIT: Cornell's run is Cap Britain returning to his magic roots to fight off both technological and magical threats.

hopefully they expand on the relationships within the team, I wanna see some more conflict between blade and wisdom, jjust more than just blade/spitfire, blackknight/faiza, captain britain/his ego

The Comic Book Club wants you send Marvel tea-bags to proactively stop Captain Britain from being cancelled.

Trackz
most of the creators have stated it isn't being cancelled, I don't know about the sales but everyone seems pretty confident.

srankmissingnin
People are worried because the sales are lack luster (and last I checked have declined from month to month) and marvel has cancelled series that were actually outselling it. The best hope is that Marvel decides to take one on the chin because its such a well written series and lets it go on for close to 40 issues like DC did with Manhunter despite abysmal sales. Most people don't expect another story arch after this current one is over though. sad

snoopdogg
Yea, I don't think it will continue past Vampire State. I hope I'm wrong though.

Trackz
I believe this book is only selling poorly in america..I've heard that this was one of the top selling books in Britain (under only marvel and dcs big events at the time)

I can't imagine the overseas sales being big enough to make a difference. Young X-Men is getting cancelled after issue twelve, and it was selling significantly better then Captain Britain, and Cable (which is also outselling it) only got saved from the chopping block because of the upcoming X-Force crossover.

Naija boy
Really i hope Marvel doesnt cancel this series. IMO its the best team title they have out now period and second best overall title (After Thor). with the demise of Dr strange, Marvel needs a really good title which focuses more on magical warfare and MI:13 does that wonderfully well.

Trackz
I dunno I think putting captain britain in the title might've been a turn off for many, he's not exactly a popular character in america (Not that I know of) maybe MI:13 would've been a better title.

srankmissingnin
Its pretty much Excalibur... but I don't think that title helped the sales much either.

Yeah it's a bit sad really. I'm English and I think Brubaker's doing a fantastic job on Captain America, but I'm also loving Captain Britain. It's a real shame if it's the name Captain Britain that's turning them off. They've got their own Captain who doesn't turn us off sad

I doubt it's really that it's a "Captain Britain" title. Even most comic nerds could probably only name him (or Psyloke ) if you asked them to name an English Marvel Character.

I'm starting to get into and buy Captain Britain on a regular basis now, I only used to buy Excalbuir issues on the cheap now and again if i saw them in shops over the years, But it seems he's becoming really cool in the UK like a UK cult figure and worldwide now after years of obscurity.

He is an alternate evil version of Brian who chose the sword instead of the amulet. He leads the Captain Britain Corps now. I just thought they would put him in there too.

Hope they bring back jasper's and use him better than they did in die by the sword.

Cornell is getting pretty wild referencing past Marvel-UK titles, down to some pretty specific ones.

I'm sure Albion and the rest of CBC will pop-up at some point; I guess they just don't have much story-purpose being brought into either the last arc or this one.

Dooms the wrong way to look if you need reassurence of your superiority ....I actually wouldn't be surprised if he takes it to doom the last issues of the book. Have you been reading the story? Wisdom called him the leading military strategist of their time and he toyed with MI:13, it's really a great story.

Trackz
...so basically Dracula won, the last issue had a nice tie-in to dark reign (Dracula's treaty with Doom bears fruit as the rest of the dark cabal, mainly Osborne and Loki (posing as Scarlet Witch), refuse Britain American aid.

the team is in ruins literally as Spitfire (Dracula successfully turns her to his side) Kills Faiza, and Black Knight and Wisdom as then taken out by the sheer mass of the vampire army. Captain Britain is knocked out of the country leaving Blade to flee to gather a resistance in the north.

currently this may be one of the best series on the market and is continually astonishing.

I can't believe a book like this got too few sales, when clearly, there is a strong support for this book. The sheer number of vocal fans, yet alone the ones who don't post on message boards is staggering.

Well it's ironic that Marvel says fans vote with their money, because they've just lost a vote or two from me.

Bentley
I don't know why they even print comics without Wolverine and Rulk.

Disappear
i think maybe marvel hoped that this would work out in the same order as the madrox mini led to the x-factor book. the wisdom mini was not only supremely entertaining, but it was thoughtful and complex and well-illustrated. and then they made it into a team book, but it just didn't translate how they wanted. i've personally been enjoying the book, though i wasn't interested much in blade or spitfire leading up to the dracula story.

disappointing to see it die.

The Nuul
Maybe Wolverine needs to join MI:13 just to get sales from his fanboys.

The Nuul
This proves my point, good writing < big sales. Crap like Wolverine and Loeb that make the sales will always beat good writing.

Whilst I agree with you, I've got nothing against those books. They aren't crushing the smaller books, it's just that the smaller books aren't getting enough sales.

I've recently been unimpressed with most of Loeb's stuff for example. His Ultimates was one of the most terrible comics I read and it destroyed my favourite title. However, I think with a book like Hulk, he's found his niche. It's not my cup of tea, but many like it and it sells well. I'm happy for Loeb and wish him all the best on that title (I'm also comforted by Millar's return to Ultimates, but that's off the point.)

Captain Britain and the MI:13 is only being cancelled because of sales, which is very disturbing seeing as there are sooo many supporters of it, myself included. I hope this is not the end, but we see one shots or mini series from the team. It makes you truly appreciate the sheer number of people who must comparatively, be picking up the books that are doing well.....

Trackz
because marvel spent NO time promoting it or any of it's other books save for the 5 or so wolverine series hulk and spiderman, they never really gave it a chance

I don't know dude, it got a 5-6 page online teaser / preview almost every month, which is more than a lot of books get...

Disappear
i think there were those one-page ads a couple months back, showing a picture of blade under the captain britain and mi:13 banner. and there are some now, albeit too late, with the vampire state teaser image of dracula.

tjcoady
Cornell, I raise my glass to you to.

A fitting end for a FANTASTIC book that ended long before its time. I would have enjoyed reading years worth of this book, but if it had to end- this is the way I would like it to.

Cheers to a wonderful book, ended early because the comics reading public didn't appreciate what they were getting.

willRules
I haven't bought the Vampire state storyline, but I'll still support sales by buying the trade.

There were some great moments over this series. Being English, we don't have as much of a reputation for being patriotic, especially when compared to our American cousins. However, even I appreciated the opening comments of the second issue, when Cap died. "When Captain America died, the Americans heard it in an American way: Through the media. When Captain Britain died, the British felt it in their chests."

I also cheered in the 4th issue when Cap was resurrected. There's just a highly charged scene where Cap bursts forth from the literal centre of the country, Wrapped in union Jacks. He even refers to the British reputation of moaning, but not moaning in what is called a stiff upper lip, by joining the final battle saying "We don't like to make a fuss."

Awesome series. yes

Trackz
this really does suck, maybe they can make this into a digital comic series like spidergirl, but I definitely would want to see this again, but with it ending I doubt we'll see any of the characters for a while...other than black knight who is set to appear in the punisher

Most fans on message boards do not buy comics they dl them. They are hardly fans at all. In fact they are the reason books are cancelled as they are often thieves.

Often Marvel's sales don't accommodate trades as trades come out months after a completed story arc. Which is a shame, because, as just stated, trades sell really well and therefore go great lengths to supporting the industry.

Plus I prefer a trade on my shelf to the single issues. As annoying as it is (Vampire state is one of the trades I'm most looking forward to buying along with Old Man Logan) it's well worth the wait, especially considering a lot of writers write to accommodate the trade format these days. smile
