It also causes problems with memory/concentration, depression, being sensitive to heat & cold, fertility problems, mood swings/irritability, shortness of breath, slow reflexes and it can also cause anemia along with many other things.
The only problem with the hormone replacement, is that you're on medication for life.

Yeah it is for life but it is better to be without all those symptoms. Plus from what I have read there aren't any side effects. The only problem with the pill is that if take to much it changes from under active to over active, but blood tests will pick up on that anyway.
