Yoshi is a hermaphrodite, because only females usually lay eggs. Yoshi lays eggs.

So that could mean he's able of both sex. Only his voice makes people think he's a male and the name but that act of egg laying is a very female thing to do.

Reptiles are usually capable of such things like that though, so he's either or. But for sake of normal conversation, I call Yoshi a boy.
