But Clayface isn't human anymore. I doubt the drain or death spores work on him. But I'm pretty sure he can just filter some clay into Omega Red's lungs.

No, in his armor form Colossus is anything but human. Essentially he just a big pile of metal just like Clayface is a big pile of clay. I don't think the possibility that Colossus might have a metal heart that is somehow pumping metal blood through metal veins really makes a difference.

In comics, being alive = having a lifeforce imo.
There are numerous characters that lack internal organs and yet are just as alive as anyone else (classic Chamber, Silver Surfer, etc)

everything posses a form of life energy, even undead all of which he can drain. He drain clayface all the same.
