Definitely a beast. Taking on the GLC and New Gods was pretty awesome. Alan Davis's art didn't hurt either/

Here Darkseid begins to absorb other New Gods adding to his power, even the New Gods and the Green Lantern Corps working together could not phase Darkseid. He was absorbing their power and growing stronger. It was Big Barda who just gained a power ring and the deceased Mister Miracle who transferred his mind into a motherbox and then became the power ring reversed the Omega Doom and caused Darkseid to blow up instead of everything else

Ah, pretty sweet. I read The Nail but not its sequel. Heard it was mostly about Supes' alternate backstory and the Kents not finding him. I was like, screw that BS.
