7. Thunderball 1965
6. The Spy Who Loved Me 1977

1. Dr. No 1962

What you say ?

Placidity
Hmm too hard to say.

One of my top favorites would have to be From Russia with Love.

The rest of my list would be films starring Sean Connery, Roger Moore or Dalton (Licence to Kill).

Pierce Brosnan is a pretty damn good Bond, but just his films wouldn't top the previous ones.

Craig's Bond is decent, Casino Royale was enjoyable, but QoS was terribad.

Nephthys
Why? I thought it was excellent.

QoS?

Well lets briefly consider the history of Bond Villains...

- Dr No
- Spectre
- Jaws
- Guy who Controls Death Satellite (Golden Eye/Die Another Die)

and then...

- Guy with a Bleeding Eye
- Guy who threatens to block water supply!

The story for the older Bond movies are just alot richer imo. Craig's Bond is aiming for a dark tone and realism (why they do away with the larger than life plots and villains, the essence of Bond films IMO), which just doesn't really work out - Or it didn't work for me anyway. Old Bond anyday.

Nephthys
What? How do the old villains have more substance? Dr No= man with hook. Spectre = generic evil organisation. Jaws= man with jaw etc.

Well, you obviously don't see it the way I do... Like I said, its all personal opinion and preference, but thats why I like the old ones better anyway...

Nephthys
True, I guess you just need to have grown up with them.

Not really. Just saw most of those and the new ones, and the classic villains are much cooler(as well as richer). I prefer the colorful element in which the bad guys give you reasons to fear them. The newer villains are pretty lame when compared to an unstoppable death machine for a man and a suave nuclear scientist gone wrong. Blocking off water supply and looking mean lacks the flair.

MildPossession
I enjoyed Quantum of Solace but it did indeed have quite a dull villain, especially coming from such a good actor as Mathieu Amalric!! The scriptwriter didn't come up with a good enough villain.

Not in order:

1. Casino Royale(it's probably the one I enjoyed the most, it does have the best Bond girl imo, Vesper!)

2. Live and Let Die

3. The Living Daylights

4. Goldfinger

5. For Your Eyes Only

6. Quantum of Solace

7. On Her Majesty's Secret Service(just ignore Lazenby...)

Humm, I can't really remember any of the other older ones, and I'm not big on the Brosnan films. But those 7 above are the ones I really liked.

good list MP

Darth Martin
1. Casino Royale
2. Quantum of Solace
3. From Russia With Love
4. Thunderball
5. License To Kill
6. For Your Eyes Only
7. Dr. No

That's where it goes to decent and then to downhill. Yes I thought Goldfinger was decent.

darthmaul1
1. Gold finger
2. Tomorrow never dies (Pierces best)
3.thunder ball (Domino the hottest bond girl very sexy)
4. you only live twice
5. live and let die
6. casino royale (good restart to the shows)
7. die another day
8. for your eyes only
9. the living daylights(daltons best)
10. golden eye

QoS sucked the green weiner. i was bored silly watching it. the villan was terrible there was no humor and the camera work was terrible too. (really shakey and too close). casino royal was much better. they shouldn't of continued the story they should of just gone back into the bond formula with a new world domination or similar plot, with gadgets. you get someone like John Cleese to replace Q and now don't use him?
that is what bond is about gadgets, world domination. casino royal since it was a revamp it had very little of that but the way it was put together was great, but QoS had nothing any of the movies with revenge as the motive is crap eg. licence to kill.

finntastic54
Don't have a top ten but do have a clear #1...da bomb

Goldfinger 1964

Well Le chiffre is also in the book of the same name so yea of course he would've had to stay for the movie version and not to mentioned he also manages to torture Bond alot worst then the other villains

Actually Dr No had metal hands

Well with the movies it was but not the books and besides near the end of Brosnans run they were concetrating too much on the gadgets.

steverules_2
1. Casino Royale, I liked how it was quite dark Bond
2. QOS, again it had a dark kinda Bond and plus he went a lil rogue agent
3. License to kill, I liked the whole Bond going rogue thing and how he was on a mission but also out for revenge and I think with the right amount of commercialism that this movie woulda done much better
4. Goldeneye, great storyline and Pierce got Bond spot on
5. Living daylights, Dalton was fantastic as Bond in this one

Dunno if I have any others, but thats not me saying I didn't enjoy them, think the worst one for me in her majestys secret service

darthmaul1
BOND MOVIES HAVE ALWAYS HAD GADGETS AND THAT IS WHAT Q IS FOR!!

steverules_2
QOS had gadgets?

MildPossession
Yeah duh, it had that computer touch screen thingy pressing thing...

?? tomorrow never dies and die another day were great too
the only one of pierces that sucked was the world is not enough that sucked big time

MildPossession
Die Another Day great? The World is Not Enough was a masterpiece compared, plus had Sophie Marceau as a Bond girl.

Yes die another day was great, it had everything a bond movie should.
A world crisis, great action, gagets, Halley Berry as a bond girl.
The world is not enough???? sophie marceau was not a good bond girl the chick at the beginning was way better. and denis richards as a nuclear scientist? LOL
the only redeming qualities of that movie were the chase at the beginning and the end when bond says " i thought christmas only comes once a year"

MildPossession
A lot of Bond fans I've noticed agree that Die Another Day is one of the worst to come out. Halle Berry I couldn't stand as a Bond girl.

Really?? I thought it was one of the better ones. In my opinion the worst bond films that came out are, in no particular order

Licence to kill
the world is not enough
and quantum of solice
I could say never say never again but that is not even considered part of the series and it was just a crappy remake of thunderball.

MildPossession
NSNA isn't an official Bond film correct.

A lot say Die Another Day went too far out there with the gadgets, one of the worst themes, Madonna in it, and so on.

darthmaul1
That theme was pretty good, better than tomorrow never dies definatly better that the world is not enough and quatum of solice (when i heard that song and after the opening i was ready to leave the theater)
Madonna wasn't that bad in it and she was only in it for 2 minutes.

MildPossession
Most of the later Bond themes are disappointing except for The World Is Not Enough, closer to a lot of the earlier themes.

Are you a secret Madonna fan...

darthmaul1
i guess it is a matter of opinion i felt that the world is not evough was pierces worst.
and i'm not a secret madonna fan

mad whoa that is a bold statement!!!!!!Connery is by far the BEST BOND, then Bronson, Moore, Craig(he hasn't been in enough to move him up the list), Dalton, Lazenby.

Like i said in an earlier post only for the movies.

MildPossession
I thought Timothy Dalton, and Daniel Craig are the closest to how Bond is in the actual books?

Kazenji
Yep

its funny how people complained at the time when License to Kill came out going on about how they made him a more tougher bond but yet take a look at what they're doing with Craig's one.

I liked the Tim Dalton bond movies. The Craig ones are just too serious. And that whole going back to the beggining thing is like a slap in the face for the whole franchise. And even tho they went back to the beginning they kept judy dench as m and had no Q. It was just wasn't bond enuf.

Sado22
Casino Royale 2006
Craig is my favorite bond. he's mean, ruthless, humane and his fighting style is imo the best of the lot: grittier and more realistic.

QOS was alright but the ending was extremely weak so it didn't feel like it was the ending. to quote yahtzee from zero punctuation: "the ending feels like having a delicious dinner at a restaurant but when you ask for the bill the chef comes over and farts in your face"

that to me, captured QoS perfectly. good movie, nice portrayal of bond's silent suffering and great action/stunts (craig takes more bumps than wrestllers!) but the ending just sucked.

I like timothy dalton too, but the licence to kill movie it's self was bad.
any bond movie with revenge as the motive sucks.

I never undterstood why they kept judy dench as M and had no Q
you get a great person like John Cleese to replace the original Q
and then don't put him in any of the new films, that is the humor that is missing in these new films.
