I love Judie Dench as M but the thing is shouldn't someone else be playing the role of M? The reason I ask is when I watched Goldeneye I noticed how Bond mentioned the M before here kept drinks somewhere else or something like that. Anyways the thing is she replaced that M, so should that mean that M should be played by someone different to sorta keep with the timeline or whatever?

Jovan
Which timeline? They rebooted after DaD so her playing M doesn't mean anything.

steverules_2
I thought they were doing prequels rather than a reboot

Jovan
No, Casino Royal was a total reboot.

siriuswriter
Whichever it was, you don't take an actress who has so melded to the role like that out of it just because the series is "whatevering" with a new Bond. Judi Dench is the perfect M.

handsdown
there prequals but sirius is right about her being too good to give up

Again: it's a total reboot, NOT prequals.
M says she misses the Cold War era when things were simple. Clearly a reboot set in the present time and NOT a prequal! Also, Bond goes to Casino Royal in Montenegro, again it is thus very clear we're dealing with a reboot in the present time and NOT a prequal!

darthmaul1
If it was a reboot then in casino royal they would be in the 60's
but if they decided to keep judi dench why in the hell didn't they keep John Cleese as Q, he is the perfect replacement and bond and Q's bantering gives the movies some much needed humor and i miss it. they had better go back to the gadgets and world domination or world crisis plots for the next film after the crappy qos

Why would they?

steverules_2
Is there every really any....year mentioned in the James Bond books? Like in Casino Royale was there any mention of what year it was? And I'm not saying what year was the book released

Because they wanted to start all over again: no Q, no Moneypenny, keep the gadgets to a minimum, etc.

darthmaul1 is mixing reboot up with prequel.

oops meant to say if it wasn't a reboot then it would be in the 60's
sorry about that

steverules_2
Doesn't seem like a reboot...feels like a prequel, I have seen no mention anywhere that it's a reboot and it really seem to need on erm

Jovan
What you think about it is irrelevant, it's a reboot and that's a fact. I have already provided you with 2 quotes that show it's a reboot and not a sequal.
A simple search would have cleared up everything already.

I said I FEEL like it's a prequel facepalm

Jovan
I do hope you'll never have to do a geography exam... or a history one for that matter. roll eyes (sarcastic)

steverules_2
Well it's your lucky day because I won't do either, I'm not much into either subject, have a nice day smurph

Yes, I noticed. thumb up

steverules_2
lol from a single thread? Wow ok roll eyes (sarcastic)

MildPossession
Judi Dench should stay as M foreverrrrrrrrrr, she is perfect for the role in my eyes. Going with whatever timeline. stick out tongue

If you like her and you haven't seen it, see the film Notes on a Scandal, she is fantastic in it.

steverules_2
I get the feeling people here think I dislike her as M when I don't, i actually think she's better than the original/s

MildPossession
Stop complaining then. stick out tongue

steverules_2
I'm not I was just saying it didn't make much sense, it would be like...lets say the Star Wars prequel was closer to the original trilogy, it would be like having darth vader suddenly be a woman or something (this is an example). I'm fine with Judi Dench being M, I love her being M but cause I thought it was a prequel rather than a reboot or whatever seemed like it would be a guy since Judi Dench in Golden Eye was replacing the original M who was male.

MildPossession
The answer is obvious...

steverules_2
To some yes...Pretty sure I'm not the only person who thought this movie was a prequel, I never saw anything about it being a reboot

Neo_Version 7
Just so we're all on the same page, Daniel Craig films are prequels, right?

Thats what I thought but apparantly I'm wrong

Clovie
prequel would take place in the 60's...

steverules_2
I dunno....maybe...

Jovan
Considering Bond clearly worked in the Cold War (even stated in the movies like Moonraker) ... and a prequal per definition takes place BEFORE the previous movie(s). It is clear a prequal should take place at the latest in the early '60s, no?

darthmaul1
The new ones or should i just say one cause QoS sucked are reboots, not a prequel

siriuswriter
I thought it was a combination - prequel, but rebooted, if that makes any sense. It was the first book written, but the man who got staple gunned in the eye... i thought he turned into dr. no. or someone.....

but then obviously was a reboot, because he was just earning double o status.

and in the end i just said 'f**k, just go with the flow' and that helped immensely smile

Eventhough Dr No still has both eyes, is a tad Asian and has metal hands?

Yep yes

Yeah as Joven said Dr No is asian and that guy from Casino Royale with the eye patch was'nt asian.

MildPossession
What I was thinking, as long as it's a good Bond movie, I'm not bothered about the time frame, doesn't take anything away from Bond, not for me anyway.
