Inspired by the, "Do you feel you are a part of a community" thread I would like to know what the members of the General Discussion section are working on accomplishing or what is going on in their lives or in the future.

Could be anything, where you wanna work, where you're going to school, whatever you want to accomplish.

Me:
Visit 10 different countries by 25
Get my undergraduate degree in the next 2 years
Get a J.D. and also learn Chinese or Arabic by the time I am 25
Join J.A.G for 3 years or go live overseas someplace practicing law
Join a Federal Law Enforcement Agency such as the FBI by 30

Join the military, it can help you accomplish much of what you want and looks exceedingly well on your application for the FBI.

Coming into this thread, my first thought was: pay back by law school loans. Funny, great minds think alike. After that? Buy a parking lot and not work again.

Only problem with that plan is that if your undergraduate degree and training in law is in the US then most countries operate vastly different legal systems meaning you'd have to go do another legal qualification in the country you moved to.

This is even to the extreme that If I qualified in law in Scotland, I'd still have to qualify in law in England because it operates a very different legal system even though both countries are part of the United Kingdom/Great Britain.

Yeah, it's a stretch to actually go live overseas and practice law. I mostly just want to live in another country haha I figure I will most likely end up being a bartender or something for a few years before I return to the US stick out tongue

Find a company that will help pay it off for you. One of my professors is a Lawyer and was a NY state police detective for like 20 years. He said the NY state police paid for literally half his tuition.

Some short term, five yearish goals

1. Lose some (a lot of) weight
2. Write a novel (not necessarily publish it, just finish it and enjoy the work)
3. Finish at least an undergrad degree
4. Move somewhere and get a job there.

Well, I already have a graduate degree, BA(hons) and a Masters degree, but I would like to finish a post graduate certificate and become a teacher.

If I wasn't lazy and and if I was ridiculously rich, I'd do my PhD, and publish my findings about something noone really cares about in the academic world, but would be considered relevant enough to award me a PhD.

Perhaps about social interactions on KMC forums and their implication on member's private lives!

I'm thinking about getting my doctoral degree in history. I want to, but I'm going to be in so much debt after my JD that I don't want to accumulate anymore of it, you know?

On a side note, its funny that a lot of us have the same interests and goals. I mean, me personally, I'm writing a novel just like a few of you, but I doubt I'll ever publish it.

Exactly. Getting a grant is so diffuclt. The idea needs to be very original, ethical AND possible to research in order for a considerable grant to be given.
Alngside that, there needs to be numerous proposals on how one will conduct research and any unethical or unorthodox methods or ideas need to go through an appeal and directly to the board, which reject things often than they let them be, regardless if appeals, ideas or benefits of research.

Stupid Milgram and Zimbardo! They ruined it for everyone.

Like I said, I am really too lazy to be doing all that...I cannot even think of an original idea in social sciences that someone hasn't looked into, and there is no way in hell I can finance myself.

If I had inherited fortune like Paris Hilton, I'd be researching and publishing left right and center. Relevant and non relevant. Wasted fortune, her's is.

It's a thing that everyone thinks they can do, I guess.

Also, the perceived lifestyle of authors is appealing to many.

Now that i've finally found a job, try to get a better job in the next couple of months. Go to law school and earn a juris Doctor in international law or enlist in ROTC and try grad school or both. If enlisted, possibly serve out my time in JAG, then get a job in the state department.

I completely agree. Popular media has a terrible habit of romanticising the lifestyle of authors. Shows like Califonication (which I like) and Castle are so far from reality, it's ridiculous. Also, people seem to underestimate the time it takes to become a professional writer.

And the people who don't actually read, but say they want to write, piss me off more than anything.

Are you....a a hottie? smile Sellin' your body will cause you to lose so much respect for yourself...unless you don't have any already...depends on you, really.

On another note, I considered being a male stripper at 18, as well. smile

And, if you're so bent on selling your body, you should get the opinion of your fellow KMCers, first. smile shifty

You're incorrect, partially. Depends on the person. And, I was the type who wouldn't have lost respect for myself...did you read my post?

I dated this lady, when I was 18...she decided to do stripping on Friday's and Saturday's. To pay off her student loan and to save money for her car. She literally cried for an hour every night after she got home. It was a horrible horrible experience for her.

But.....some tasteful softcore pornographic pictures would be alright. You usually only have to put up with the photographer, in most cases...and that's not too bad. It won't net you as much as stripping.....but it will make you some money. smile

I think im going to quit my job. Im going to find a decent trailer and collect unemployment. After a few months of heavy slothing i will apply for disability pay as well. After slumming for a few years i am going to move to Europe and join a band of gypsies. After a year or two of traveling around and living dirty i will complete my training to become an Emt-a and spend a few years saving lives. After all of this i'll join the Peace Corps for a few years. Once i've traveled around giving back to world i'll probably find a studio apartment somewhere and spend a few years painting and writing books. After i've become an accomplished writer i will go back to collecting unemployment and living out the rest of my days in a trailer park.
