Okay, the way this works is we take the characters we usually debate about, except we can only use the very first comic they appeared in.

So Superman is Golden Age, Wolverine is fighting Hulk, etc.

How does this change popular match-ups?

Trackz
sentry should be on top then

theICONiac
How about Rulk??

Endless Mike
Rulk is not a hero

Supes could barely lift a car in his 1st appearance.

Endless Mike
I wouldn't say barely. It wasn't hard for him.

Thor,gladiator,sentry

Master Court
Yeah, I would say Thor, Colossus, Sasquatch, Sentry, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, Hercules. I mean, as long as we're only talking heroes. Because I would also say Juggernaut, Rhino, Doomsday, Lobo, Darkseid.

Superman couldn't lift more than a car and Hulk was injured by getting hit by a little army jeep, so it's neither of them.

Question: Are we talking before or after the standard power for a top-tier was established? Are we measuring against anything, or just how powerful they were in their first appearance?

As I thought he's a little "fanboyistic" isn't he?

And, hell, Blue Marvel was definitely powerful in his first showings, but first issue wise?

Sentry...awesome...ever? no expression

How about Supergirl? Her first appearance she didn't do much, but it was made apparent that she was PC Superman's equal. And in her first post-intro appearance (next issue), she threw a bolder through the ground in Midvale, USA, under the Atlantic Ocean and out the other side to land in the soil next to the Leaning Tower of Piza.

(Don't blame me for WTF levels of Pre-Crisis geography.)
