Sean Connery was smart

Mr Parker
A lot of people might not know this but Connery retired from making films. His last movie was in 2002.So does it really surprise anybody here that he did not come out of retirement to do the last Indy film? How can anybody blame him for not doing it? after looking over that god awful script he probably did the wise thing and told them he wasnt going to do it since that was the lousy script they decided to go with.Smart thinking on Connerys part.If I had been him,no way would I have come out of retirement to that disgraceful movie either.
Wei Phoenix
How is keeping your word and staying in retirement smart? Has he shown any interest in doing any other movies before? Has he said he would come out of retirement for a good script?
steverules_2
I wouldn't mind seeing him make a cameo in a future Bond film

for the last two questions I have no idea.for the first one, cause like i said, the movie was so horrible he was smart not to attach his name to that movie.

yeah that would be cool.
Jaeh.is.Awesome
cameos would be cool. in good movies.
siriuswriter
sean connery actually gave a couple of 'false retirements," but a good script would bring him out.
as for indy 4, indy's father would most probably be dead or too doddering to go on an epic quest which involved quick thinking and aliums.
plus, communist russia would kinda crumble under him. he would just have to say something intelligent in latin or greek or aramic or....
and the russians would fall over dead from complete and total lack of understanding.
queeq
And show Indy old age doesn't mean you can't still be a winner in a fight.
Sadako of Girth
That being said, John McClane and Rambo both aged better than Indy.
queeq
Quite.... good point.
In fact, Rambo was never so good at shooting people in half.
Sadako of Girth
Trueism right there.
Not to mention Macheteing a guy in virtually half, gutting him, and that massive stamina testing Run through the jungle.
Rambo needed not to pause in the action commenting to the enemy that he "Though that'd be easier" or some 'arent I old and pathetic now' line.
No comedy Gophers were bought in to laugh at accidents befalling McClane in attempt to make him a laughing stock as he dispensed Ninja Chicks, Hamster wheel dudes and Mercs/assassins alike...
Sadako of Girth
Indeeed..!!!
Im not in the least bit interested to see a great actor like Sean Connery have to change his character's colostomy bag on screen, just because those cashcow b**ches say it must be done.
queeq
Which he won't anyway.
Sadako of Girth
Yup. Good for him.
Sadako of Girth
Until they CGI a fake Connery one day...............

queeq
Ouch... they might actually.
Sadako of Girth
Hopefully he can still legally oppose that whilst he has the chance.
Sadako of Girth
I can't help but think of that interview where Carrie Fisher had joked about the fact of having signed her likeness over to Lucas being a factor in her life to the extent that everytime she looks in the mirror she owed Lucas five cents.
Maybe its part of the deal that Connery then would have his image whored around and raped.
This might explain the photo in KOTCS/TAOS.
queeq
Oh yes.
So Carrie Fisher had a piggie bank attached to her mirrors?

Sadako of Girth
May as well have, by the sound of it....

queeq
She is so darn funny.
Sadako of Girth
I bet shes great fun at parties, for sure.

Not to mine knowledge.
Sadako of Girth
He may have been speaking Connery.
Sadako of Girth
Exshactly.

What the hell is TAOS ?
Sadako of Girth
Its the almost universally agreed upon true name of Indy IV.
"Indiana Jones and the aliens of shit."
Kazenji
Yeah.....'almost universally agreed upon true name of Indy IV'
i have'nt agreed on it myself and won't be hearing from on that anytime soon.
Jaeh.is.Awesome
certainly shorter than KOTCS, tho...

Hence the useage of "almost".

Indeed. Which is is brevitytasic.

queeq
And more to the point.
Sadako of Girth
Hopefully, next time, it'll be a case of "Indiana Jones hand his habit of using his a son as a bulletproof shield."
queeq
Our favourite Indy scene when then go SPLATTT!
Sadako of Girth
I would buy the DVD to watch that over and over and over.
Sadako of Girth
Yep It'd be like a screen saver, only one that ends up burning your plasma/LCD screen because of how damned good it is and often it would be repeating..
queeq
THat's worth a new monitor.
Sadako of Girth
Hehehe indeed. An Imax one.
Sadako of Girth
I imagined you saying that like that guy Emil in Robocop did when he recieved a Cobra assault cannon and delivered his verdict..
Sadako of Girth
Twas, praise, not abuse. I liked that guy's attitude.

Kazenji
I'd buy that for a dollar!
Sadako of Girth
Can youuuuuuuu fllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, Bobby?

Kazenji
Please put down your weapon. You have 20 seconds to comply.
Sadako of Girth
"I guess you think you're pretty smart, huh...? Think you can outsmart a bullet?"
queeq
Quick, call a doctor.
Sadako of Girth

That line was even more hilarious in the director's cut.
The irrelevancy of any medical intervention was WAY more obvious in that cut.

Dark humour at it's best.
Sadako of Girth
Speaking of dark.... Saw "The diving Bell and the Butterfly" today.
Heavy movie. You seen it...?
queeq
Yup. But I only liked the first half. Once they let go of the POV style, it kinda died. I don't know how they should have solved it, since the POV got kinda stae as well after 45 minutes, but it sure was more fascinating than the rest. Maybe it should have been a short movie, then it would have been brilliant.
Sadako of Girth
Im with you on that.
I thought the 1st half was fresh, and barring a blurred crossed sight frame of eyebrow and nose, they couldnt really have nailed the 1st person bit any more convincingly.
The dark comedy of his one eye being the focus of reaction for the subsequent like 45 mins was not enough comedy to balance the utterly depressing aspects of the story, for me....and the reveal of what had put him in that position was a bit "Oh...that was it? After all the flashbackery, He simply had a stroke at the wheel, noone else was killed like it was hinted that they may have been by the flashes... It was good that it creates stroke awareness, though.
queeq
Oh I agree. Too bad, but in the end it wasn't entirely an idea for a full length feature I think.
Sadako of Girth
Seems so.

queeq
Then again, nicely done.
Did you see Let the Right One In yet? Excellent film.
Mr Parker
wow I had no idea this thread had taken off like it has and was still going on.At the time I made it there wasnt much of a response.
queeq
And that didn't make you think?
