Immortals

Placidity
Hi all,

Just wondering which of the popular comic book characters are true immortals.

For example, I used to think Kal El was an immortal, but he clearly gets old and stuff, so I assume he isn't.

So who is genuinely immortal? And I mean someone that won't die because of age, not that they can't be killed.

Vandal Savage is obviously one, but I would like to know the more common characters that I haven't really thought about if they are immortal or not, e.g. Wonder Woman.

Deadpool big grin Think he's still immortal since thanos cursed him

Alpha Centauri
Deadpool, Mr. Sinister, Apocalypse to name a few.

I'm not entirely sure how far Wolverine's healing factor pushes his age, but I don't think he's an immortal in that sense, at all.

Fury says Wolverine hasn't aged a day since WW2. /shrug

Thanos being dead and all, is dead 'Pool even still cursed?

comicfan11
Pretty much all of DC's pantheons (Greek, Scandinavian, African, New Gods)

Arion the Immortal (well duh), Doomsday, Resurrection Man, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Shazam (the wizard), Swamp Thing (I think), Deadman, Hourman (the android), Etrigan and all the demons, Onymar Syn, Guardians of the Universe, the Controllers, Cyborg Superman, Phantom Stranger,

Wolverine does age, there was that wolverine the end comic, although that was a possible alternate future/universe that still showed wolverine ages and could die of old age

He also looked more or less the same in Millar's FF run (450 years into the future), Here Comes Tomorrow (150 years into the future), and in Timestorm (90 years into the future)... aside from missing his arm that is.

Wolverine ages.

Yeah but that still doesn't mean wolverine doesn't age...

All we know for sure is that he hasn't aged a day since the day Fury met him during WW2. Other than that we have a few alternate realities where he has aged, and a few where he hasn't.

Also Bloodscream is pretty immortal. He doesn't age and he's picked up his head and reattached it mid-combat and Antman enlarged from inside of him exploding him into millions of pieces... which he apparently healed from.

Disappear
the sliding timescale's kept virtually everyone alive, and could conceivably continue to do so until comics are no longer published. that said, it's not really what this is about.

Sir Faceman
Marvel Dracula. I think ?

In (I think) the Endangered Species one shot, Wolverine thinks of life in the future. He is slightly older and tending the graves of his fellow X-men. Whether he's right or not, the in continuity Logan thinks he ages and outside of a specialist in genetics or biology, he is probably the person best qualified to judge that.

Xavier has barely aged.

In fact, looks like he's getting younger.

In fact, looks like he's getting younger. that's because comics have a shifting timeline - not because xavier is immortal.

You keep me young Galan.

Disappear
xavier and magneto both were "rejuvenated" at separate times, giving them more physically strong and capable bodies that didn't look dramatically younger than their norm.

Darth Jello
Deadpool, Selene, Thanos. Sinister is on the fence since he may just make new bodies for himself, same with Apocalypse. Most of the Weapon X characters and Romulus just age very, very slowly. Even the ones I listed are kinda suspect. Are you truly immortal if you can die but you get better?

For this topic yes. But you must be able to "get better" without any other outside influences.

But overall, I'm more interested in people who don't die from age.

Anyone know anything about Wonder Woman or Martian Manhunter?

I don't know if they can die from it but Martian's do age. J'onn had kids.

Martian_mind
Martians are immortal.

Jonn was a young martian, and he's 225 million years old

Endless Mike
Swamp Thing is definitely immortal, it's basically proven, he even survived billions of years in time once

manjaro
wolverine is kinda tricky, cuz in old man logan which was set like 50 yrs in the future he got old as shit....even tho in canon he hasnt aged since reaching adulthood. well he used to be immortal, but that thing he had with that angel of death guy ruined all that. he can still recover from injuries but if he "dies, dies" he's screwed...Mystique is another one thats virtually immortal cuz as a shapeshifter her cells are in constant flux,so they dont degenerate. as a result she doesnt age. so if she were to keep herself completely out of danger she could easily outlive the entire human race.

That was from stress. In the same cannon 400 years later he looks like he always did.

Darth Jello
I guess I can only think of a few then. Deadpool, Selene, Thanos, Master Izo, the Beast (the Snake Root's patron demon, not Hank McCoy) Mephisto, Sym, Nastirh, Cameron Hodge (I think...), all the gods, cosmic beings, and personified existential concepts (of course).

SevenShackles

i know he goes by the "world's mightiest mortal" tagline, but i've never seen any indication that he ages while in that form. same for black adam.

he's an avatar of the gods after all...

I don't know...how many comic characters have visible signs of aging anyway...

But yeah, the divine powers can give him some kind of longer span of life or maybe even immortality

He has canonically done both.

When the multiverse was destroyed by the Anti-Monitor in COIE, he regenerated in the new universe.

Hulk. according to Maestro, he's "functionally immortal"...

Rage.Of.Olympus
The fact that Maestro seems like an aged version of the Hulk along with white hear, liver spots (As I recall.) and everything, kind of shits on that theory doesn't it?

Anyways despite what the handbooks say, Thor.

Warlord
Asgardians need the aples of Idun to remain imortal don't they?
