((This is just in regards to Yu-Gi-Oh!/Duel Monsters. I haven't watched enough of GX or 5Ds to judge)

So I made this thread for two reasons.
1. To post these two stupid badly edited videos I just made for Yami Marik.

2. I just finished rewatching Battle City and I did a total 180 as I originally totally hated Yami Marik. I loved real, sexy Marik and this imposter with unexplained wardrobe and muscle changes annoyed me. However after this second watch I loved his dark, twisted personality. He's even more perverse than Yami Bakura and I can understand every second of it. he was born out of an arcane and brutal tradition and so his existence, his cruel intentions for the world, ar eall pretty sensible to me. He's just..nuts because he was made to be that way.

Yami Bakura souded cool but I really don't like his fluffy hair look. Plus he hardly does anything for most of the series. LittleKuriboh isn't lying when he talks about how long it tkaes Bakura to be a a main character.

I guess you might have a point about Bakura.. but when going by all the villains (even the ones from filler sagas), Marik hardly compares to Dartz IMO. He's still cool though, so don't get me wrong, but my favorite quotes by him were not in your vid ironically.

battle city was written closer to the rules of the game, thus more epicness since it was legal.

I big to differ... The Orichalcos, combined with Dartz's deck would likely handle Yami-Bakura quite easily, and unlike being sent to the Shadow Realm (and later escaping) when he normally loses a duel, Bakura would instead have his soul used by Dartz to fuel the Great Leviathan.

I guess his evil actions can be creepy but just looking at him he's pretty cute and sexy.

Bakura is still the baddest villain. He manipulated them all from the beginning to the end and even survived the Shadow Realm.

He didn't manipulate everyone from the start to the end. He got his plans delayed multiple times and had to improvise.

Hmm, IIRC, lost the millennium ring but still maintained control over his host and made everyone believe he was gone. beat Pegasus and took his eye without anyone knowing. Saved Yugi from a burning building while connecting himself to the Puzzle, getting sent to the Shadow Realm and laughing it off because it's basically a second home to him. Escaped the Shadow Realm (Something Marik couldn't do), a couple other things too. What did Marik do that was greater than Bakura?

It should be noted that Pegasus was weakened at the time because his shadow powers were almost completely exhausted due to his recent duel with Yugi. Bakura would've had almost no chance in taking the Eye from him if it weren't for that. If he did, he probably would've participated in the Duelest Kingdom finals like how he did the Battle City finals.

Bakura escaped the Shadow Realm because a part of his soul was tied to the Millennium Puzzle. Plus when Yami Marik was defeated his Shadow Magic ceased to function and Bakura could return in full.

Besides, regular Marik was sent there too but like Bakura he had part of his essence in something else so he survived.

And he got the Ring back. That's how he continued to control regular Bakura.

Marik gave Atem his greatest duel ever. Well maybe second greatest after his duel with Yugi before he passed on.
He was the most creatively sadistic with the Shadow Games. you lose to Bakura and sure your soul is gone forever but in the actual game itself you're fine. With Yami Marik your mind is eaten away piece by piece or your best friends are destroyed or any number of other twisted things.

Well in that instance, I was just talking about who'd probably win if they fought each other (Zorc and the Leviathan) . Besides Zorc could actually talk ...I don't remember the Leviathan talking, so don't hold me to that talk thing.

I remember Yami-Marik throwing a tantrum and tossing the Millennium Rod aside because it wouldn't show him events of the ancient past (like it suddenly did during Yugi & Kaiba's duel) when he asked it to.

Yeah... but Leviathan was infinitely cooler looking. Zorc did look better though here than he did in the anime version.

Also, I just noticed, but all the Yugioh villains (well, most of them) tend to fuse with their strongest creatures in the end.
Yami-Marik fused with Ra during his final duel against Yugi (and when he dueled Bakura), Dartz merged together with the Great Leviathan, and Yami-Bakura fused with Zorc. Heh.

Nearly any beast looked better than Zorc. The guy had a snake-like penis >__> . Though that is better than the anime version with said-snake appendage coming out of his chest.

The G.Leviathan was huge. I was watching an AMV, and that dude makes the gods look tiny >_>.

I wonder how BEWD would have done against the guy. Or two BEWD's hmm

As for the Leviathan, yeah. Makes me wonder if he would've been any bigger/more powerful if he contained the soul of the Pharoah (instead of Dartz).
When Obelisk punched Leviathan, he even made his body start to sink into him , until Slifer's and Ra's attacks saved him, but that was pretty cool regardless.

As for how a BEWD or 2 would do against him.. I dunno. Leviathan took out the 3 Knights of Atlantas (who were able to destroy the Orichalcos in Dartz's duel) pretty easily.

There is far too much talking in this thread about this non-existent Dartz character. He was a main antagonist in a fanfic. An extremely elaborate fanfic but a fanfic nonetheless. And he doesn't measure up to any of the other villains as they win by default as they exist.

Anyway, Kaiba may screw the rules but Yami Marik makes the rules.

Are you one of those kind of elitists who only care about what's canon in a story and unable to appreciate any of which might not be? Dartz was still a very likeable villain regardless (and he laughs in the face of continuity), as were his 3 cohorts, especially Rafael.
So yes. He does measure up to the others as far as I'm concerned. Now if he were an incompetent character or something, then I'd agree, but that wasn't the case.

As a matter a fact, Waking the Dragons is my favorite saga/arc in all of Yu-Gi-Oh! regardless of it being a filler, so smite me if you wish.
Why wasn't it counted as canon by the creators anyway? Because the King of Games got his ass kicked by Rafael?


Eh, aside from all that, I still liked the vid you posted. ^^ It was awesome how Yami-Marik created various torturous effects for all the different duels he was involved in. Kinda makes you wish there had been one with him and Kaiba too, just to see if he still thought all the magic stuff was nothing but hocus-pocus tricks.

Also, I guess I wasn't the only one who hated Marik's father and wanted him to die anyway was I? haermm

And I quite hated Marik's father too. I don't blame Yami Marik for killing his ass and I don't blame regular Marik for abandoning his "duty" as a Tombkeeper. I'd have left even sooner than he did.

I almost even agree with Yami Marik's motivations and intentions. Sure he's going to destroy the world but the world kinda deserves it.

The only things I didn't like about it were that the Egyptian Gods didn't make quite as much appearances as I thought they should have (only Obelisk was exposed to the Seal of Orichalcos), and... ugh. Mai's new voice. Thankfully though, she didn't make as many appearances as she did in Duelest Kingdom and Battle City, so I didn't have to hear it as much.

Yeah, me too. I wouldn't have taken things out of Odion though like regular Marik did (for the most part).

And if I recall right, Yami-Marik didn't actually want to destroy the world, but re-create it with him as ruler, which he believed he could do with the Millennium Puzzle and the 3 Egyptian God monsters.

Speaking of which, aside from the scenes where the Gods fight against Leviathan and later against Zorc, my favorite part with all 3 of them is at the end of Marik's duel where Obelisk restrains Ra with his arms, while Slifer coils around Ra's body (and Kuriboh taunting Yami-Marik in the process). Thought that was pretty sweet.

edit- Is it me, or did that giant circle in the sky at 6:30 (created by the Ragnarok magic card) look a lot like the Seal of Orichalcos from the later season? Ironic (except Ragnarok is purple and the Orichalcos is green)...
Regardless, that was one of the most epic defeats in the entire series, to one of the greatest villains in the show no less.

I just never found the whole Orichelcos thing very interesting. Granted I didn't watch all of Season 4 as I skipped to Dawn of the Duel.

And yeah Yami Marik wouldn't destroy it like blow it up but I'm pretty sure what's left would qualify as destroyed.

dartz's deck would have beaten pegasus and marik facing him at the same time, that's how hax his shit was.

Yami-Bakura (with the spirit of regular Marik at his side) lost to Yami-Marik too because of a technicality, and Wheeler also lost to him in a similar fashion... It's funny when ya think about it.

Ever consider that what was said about BEWD was just hyperbole? >.> Regardless, you're kinda overrating him IMO, and just because he did a little better against Zorc than the Egyptian Gods doesn't mean it would be the same with Leviathan. Plus, the gods (at the time) were infused with the power of every soul Dartz captured, as well as the spirits of the Duel Monsters (Dark Magician Girl and what not), which turned into those orbs of light that transferred to the Pharaoh's duel-disk just before he summoned the gods.. and that's how they defeated Leviathan, because they were fueled by so much light energy from the spirits (more light energy than what BEWD has anyway). In that state, they'd probably beat Zorc as well without even having to fuse together.

yeah its too bad i found this interesting yugioh forum almost a year later. bottom line is yami marik is the greatest villian. and for those that stated yami marik's outcome duels the only true duel he lost to was yami yugi. true he should've lost to joey but for that matter joey wouldn't had made it because he should've lost to odion. had marik not held back odion's final attack joey would be history.

Overrated is just opinion... Your opinion rather. To be fair, Dartz had much more going for him in the way of feats than Yami-Marik ever did (i.e. He captured much more souls with the Orichalcos over the centuries than the amount of people Marik sent to the Shadow Realm during the time he had as a villain. And Dartz did some major shit with the Great Leviathan as well). Also had a deck that was inarguably more powerful as you kinda mentioned. The cards being anime-only is irrelevant here, since, well, this is an anime forum.

Don't remember too much of the duel Joey had with Odion at this point, but with how well he did against Yami-Marik, I'm sure he could've made a comeback still even if Marik hadn't held Odion back. If the opposite is true, then, holding Odion back for him to summon fake Ra was just fail on Marik's part.

dartz wins

dartz's deck had a card that allowed him to literally choke his opponent for two minutes if they attacked his face down monster.

it was at the bottom of his deck so he didn't get to use it.

I remember when I used to watch Yugioh, and Pegasus was the big badass. Normally that's when shows peak for kids, but when Marik showed up? I mean, now looking at it Yugioh was never a good show, but Marik was a beast when you're 10.

any duel with the god cards was all types of epic

The most epic duel (concerning God cards opposing each other) being the one between Kaiba & Yugi. There was an entire episode revolving around powering and depowering Slifer & Obelisk iirc. Was ossum.
