Well, from off the top of me head, for me, it was:

9/11, the recession/economy, and a black person elected as US president..

biggest tech story: the iphone, hd/hdtv's
biggest sci story: Mars rover, extrasolar planets
biggest insignificant story: Jon & Kate
biggest movie story: Star Wars (new Trilogy) / Avatar
biggest scandal story: Bernie Madoff
biggest celebrity story: mike jack

yup..

can't wait for what the next decade has in store for us after all'a this..

I'm confused on almost all of those.

What happened on 09-11-2009 that made it one of the biggest stories of this year?

What happened with the iphone, hd/hdtv's in 2009 that made it a big story? Did Apple try to sue several HDTV manufacturers or something? (The answer is "no."...that was just an example.)

The Mars Rover Mission started in 2004, not 2009. Spirit and Opportunity have been working away for 5 years, now. big grin We've known about extrasolar planets for years now. There wasn't a major breakthrough on planet discovery in 2009...unless you're referring to Gliese. But, you put "planets" so you most likely meant the discovery of extrasolar planets, period.

Jon and Kate started in 2007. Unless you're talking about the divorce in 2009. 9+ million viewers an episode is hardly insignificant. Unless you're referring to their divorce and the coverage. In that case, it was over 10 million viewers...making it hardly insignificant. Jon and Kate started in 2007. I get that you're saying "biggest insignificant"... If you meant "Jon and Kate divorce" you would have said as such, so I assume you were referring to the "Jon and Kate" phenomena, period. That would be incorrect as that started in 2007, not 09.

You're obviously referring to the decade, and not 09. In that case, The Dark Knight did better than any of those films, individually.

I agree that the Bernie Madoff was the biggest scandal, in terms of volume of money...and because it's '09.

Biggest Celeb death is Def. Michael Jackson. In fact, that's the biggest celebrity death in history, by total # of followers. (Bigger than JFK.)

There are only two responses to my post, "Get off my knuts." Or, "Oops, I did the decade, not '09."

Obviously he did decade instead of 09.

economic depression. corporate crime. feeding fire to the conflict ridden africa and south americas. expansion of the american empire. expansion of the chinese empire. obama bailout. obama decleration of troop surge as well as the twice bigger provate shadow troop surge. russian remilitarisation. bolivian stability and late independance. eric prince's ties to the cia exposed as well as dismissal of cases against XE{formerly blackwater}. ben bernanke being named times man of the year{who else cudnt ****ing beleive that, the ONE man that had more to do with willingly causing the depression than any1 else. o top of being THE FED!}.

the list goes on. ofcourse any1 in the know wud see how interconnected these stories really are.

The massive balls up that was Copenhagen.

The biggest story is no doubt the " world economic disaster " through out the year we suffered it's affect. This is biggest because every body suffered a lot . Other incidents happened but affect or effect only the related people.

I think the biggest News was the Death of Michael Jackson,
though the ecomonic depression was news all the year.

For me it was also the death of Michael Jackson. I'm still so upset about it. The only thing I would have loved to see would be him get back to the top of the charts. Sure he made mistakes. But which artists or other famous person didn't? JFK and Bill Clinton fooled around, so did David Letterman. Do we think of the bad things that they did in their private lives or what they did that made them likeable people? Now that MJ's gone, we won't be able to see him live to have his moment of redemption.

Biggest story was the Throwing knife kill in Rundown on MW2, the one that went up over the bridge and over the hut into the head of the last guy on the opposing team..

but i guess thats just because we roll in different circles. stick out tongue
