I think you can make the case Avatar is not even the best Sci-Fi film this year; never mind Best of the year. Personally, I put it behind District 9, Star Trek, and maybe even Moon.

But there are some valuable, telling parallels between Neill Blomkamp's low budget, ingenious actioner, and James Cameron's megabudget, megapixel opus. Make the case either way.

District 9 started much better, being a very funny satire, then became an adventure where one genuinely felt pathos for the hero, and finally collapsed completely at the end into one big, incredibly messy fight.
Avatar didn't have such wit or intelligence, but it held together to the end. Moon was easily the better film, though.

Oh definitely District 9

Distract 9 seem silly and a weak movie even for the buget
