I greatly enjoyed The Catcher in the Rye and Nine Stories. And he was 91, lived good long the guy.

Man, if I were ever to become famous in any way, I would want to be as private as he was.

The Catcher in the Rye is one of my faves... R.I.P.

Makes you wonder, what was he hiding?

I'm going to have to admit, I got forced to read Catcher in the Rye in class and loathed every minute of it. I don't see the appeal.

English teachers always force students to read certain novels. I remember reading On the Road and not liking it much. So I ask if I could read some other works. Most of time I got to read Steinbeck novels and those really connected with me.

I just never got into the whole Shakespeare hype or Hemingway. But Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky kick ass!

To be fair, if you loved it obsessively, I'm sure that would make anyone nervous. One of my roommates my last year of college was a kind and lovely girl but had a dedicated Salinger shelf in her room which among other works, featured several collectible copies of Catcher in the Rye did make me question as to whether she was planning on assassinating a public figure.
