I was never one for reps, but back in the day, I could do a couple of chinups with one arm. That's one arm behind my back, and from a dead-hang, chin with the other. In those days, I was also able to bench over double my bodyweight; that definitely helped.

mikeydude
i can do like 15. but then again. im fat, and what not.

Insomniatric

If you can do 1 handed, shouldn't you be able to do more chinups? I mean, 1 handed is extremely impressive.

Impediment
10 years ago, when I was in the Army, I could do 30, easy.

Now, I could, maybe, do 3.

Last time I tried, like ten years ago, my shoulder popped out, Lethal Weapon Riggs style. Never again.

I still don't see any vids.

And, at the end of my back workout, yesterday, I tried palm-facing close-grip pull-ups. I only got 5. no expression

But putting up how many chinups you can do in a forum is.

I don't really know whether I was doing chin-ups or pull-ups, don't really know what the difference is. Well, whichever the hell one I was doing, I did 40 2-handed, and 13 1-handed. And I did the one-handeds first, so my right arm was burning. I'd probably be able to do more 2-handed if I waited a while after I did the 1-handeds.

But none of us compare to Bruce Lee, who could do 50 1-handed pull-ups.

'Cause I know there are liars in this thread. smile

And, yes, it is a good idea, especially if you only allow the vid to be posted here. There are lots of controls you can put in place on youtube: even making vids private. no expression

Mairuzu
I was mixing chip up with pull up. The chinups are much easier. Those pullups are a ***** though.

Insomniatric
I'm still not sure what the difference between chin-ups and pull-ups is.

Either one is very easy for me, because I'm light weight (125 lbs), and I'm able to bench press 195 (on a good day I can do 200), I can power clean 220, and I can squat 330. So pound for pound, I'm pretty strong. It's good to be light weight and strong.

Wild Shadow
chin ups are the lazy man pull up..

chin up you maintain a slight arc in your arms from 45 to 75 degree angle without completely straightening out your arms and tangling at the start off position each time..

also in chin ups the palms are facing you...

a pull up you tangle freely each time you lift up and down tangling at the start off position.. if you maintain bend in your elbows however slight it does not count as a pull up...

plus more often than not you can also have palms out making it harder then a chin up facing in. but it can be interchangeable..
must also keep legs straight down and not kick or have them raised to make things easier. the key is to always tangle..

I tried it two weeks ago: I can only do 10 chin-ups.

ADarksideJedi
That is pretty good I can't get even one done.

I also weighed 230lbs, at the time. (I haven't weighed myself in 2 weeks.)

Imma a big ol' boy....so it is a pretty good feat. If I weighed 190, I could probably get 20-30.

Wild Shadow
i dont do chin ups.. but i do, do pull ups... out of shape i do 15.. semi shape 18 in shape i am hitting the 30's and 42 minimum...

Actually, that's not true at all. Both workouts work two different sets of muscles, thus are both equally important in their use. Chinups put strain on the biceps, though spreading to the sidearms as well.
Pullups, which also use sidearms, strengthens back muscles and shoulders if done correctly. To be honest, I can do more pullups than a I can do chinups.
But if you want, I will make a spin-off thread.

Wild Shadow
my friend at the gym use to say even when you do something wrong you are still working out muscles...

also i double the amount from pull up to chin up wo if i can do 15 out of shape i can do 30 chin ups

Or hurting yourself. Your choice. Certain forms could tear a muscle.

In shape, anyone can do 43.

Wild Shadow
when you do a chin up, do you raise your knees to help you or kick to help you get the extra push?

you missed the point of my statement.. erm

Actually, that's not correct at all.

Both work out the same muscles with different amounts muscle fiber activation in the same muscle groups.

That includes, from superior to inferior portions...

Sternocleidomastoid
Sterndohyoidius
Splenius
Trapezius
Deltoid
Rhombodeus Major and Minor.
Teres Major
Supraspinatus
Infraspinatus
Latissimus Dorsi

ugh....

you get the point.

In fact, I'm pretty sure I missed some muscles in there leading up to the Lats.

Robtard
Got myself one of those Iron Gym: Total Upper Body Workout door frame attachments; tell you, the best $27.00 I've spent.

Each morning before I go to work, I do 10-15, chin-ups, pull-ups and the pull-ups with the handle attachments facing you. Followed by 50-60 push-ups. Great little work-out to wake up with.

One of my wife's friend's husband has one of those. He loves it.

I was thinking about getting one just so I could work my lower abs....

I like to do abs from home....but being nasty isn't hitting them hard enough, these days, even with the extra fat.

Robtard
I'll throw in some leg lifts and/or extended holds to hit the Abs here and there, should just work it into my morning routine, only add a couple minutes, if that.

Mist_haermm
I hang upside down by my legs and pull the earth towards me.

Wild Shadow
chuck?

if it weren't for my laziness disorder i could probably do a few. No, who am i kidding? I would get winded by simply walking up to the bar.
