Mujaffa
Ho! Ho! Ho! to the bottle I go
To heal my heart and drown my woe.
Rain may fall and wind may blow,
And many miles be still to go,
But under a tall tree I will lie,
And let the clouds go sailing by.
rolling on floor laughing

i didn't enjoy these at all. I appreaciate them in the whole, as in Tolkien's writtings, but nope..i don't want to particularise on them

Mithrandir
yeah me neither excpet within the soundtrack when they included elvish in almost all of the lyrics

mah
the songs and poems in LOTR are very good IMO

Izz
i would like to have song of the elves in the scene 'the passing of the elves' (FOTR), you know, when frodo sits in the tree with his pipe. only i can't find it. neither the lyrics.

For some reason, whenever I think of songs and poems from LOTR, I think of the animated version and I don't think that's what you probably meant.

Mujaffa
the songs and poems form the bookwink never seen the animated movie..sad

Master Nate
IMO, the Poems are actually brilliant, songs are good.

Mujaffa
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
that washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Captain REX
I read the Oliphaunt poem the other day...

Mujaffa
Grey as a mouse,
Big as a house,
Nose like a snake,
I make the earth shake,
As I tramp through the grass;
Trees crack as I pass.
With horns in my mouth
I walk in the South,
Flapping big ears.
Beyond count of years
I stump round and round,
Never lie on the ground,
Not even to die.
Oliphaunt am I,
Biggest of all,
Huge, old, and tall.
If ever you'd met me
Tou wouldn't forget me.
If you never do,
You won't think I'm true;
But old Oliphaunt am I,
And never lie.

this one?

Captain REX
Yep, that be the one. The Oliphaunt in the film was excellent. smile

they're probably really good, but i hated them, damn annoying pieces of shit.

Captain REX
Now, I wouldn't say that, though they did get annoying after reading a lot of them...

My dad used to be in a band, and he created tunes to go with the songs. He's forgotten them all though... sad

have to admit, first time I read the books, I read all the poems and songs. BUT, ever since, when I re-read them, I always skip past them (apart from some of the more interesting and meaningful ones).

good thing the songs/poems weren't added to the movie. would've made them cheesy. thank kami.

some were, but the producers were so nerdy that we didn't noticestick out tongue.

Isilwen Took
I try to find it too because it's really nostalgic and all... i will tell you if i find it! smile or oooow... i will try to put subtitles to watch the movie! Maybe it will work...

Sifer
Can't believe none of you have mentioned the most famous one in the book.

The road goes ever on and on
down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And wither then? I cannot say.

big grin

Isilwen Took
oops! i had it in mind but i forgot to put it in my post!! whistle

Mithrael
I love the two songs...

Hey ho to the bottle I go!
To heal my heart and drown my woe!
Rain may fall and wind may blow!
Though there still be-e
Many miles to go!
Sweet is the sound of the pourin' rain
And the stream that falls from hill to plain!
But better than rain or rippling brook
Is a mug of beer inside this Took!

"The Road goes ever on and on,
Down from the door where it began.
Now Far Ahead the Road has gone,
and I must follow it if I can..." -Bilbo

Daragon
Does anyone here know the poem Frodo sais in the end of book three, when he is on the way to leave Middleearth?

SiriusBlackRIP
