There was a Godzilla movie I happened to catch a few years back: I believe it was, Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack, and it had the best, meanest, rubber-suited Godzilla I had ever seen. The distance shots were very realistic; up close, the pupilless, glowing eyes were extremely effective in conveying the monstrousness of Big G in all his glory. Best of all, there was even an underwater scene where swimming Godzilla was CGI'd. When I saw that I thought, this is how it should be done.

I hope they do it this time.

It's a little cheesy in parts, but in general it's a really badass movie. It had one of my favorite versions of Godzilla in it when I was younger.

Godzilla wouldn't be Godzilla w/o a lil' bit o' cheese. But what impressed me was how well they made the rubber suit work this time around. And the shot of CGI Godzilla: I reflect on the American Zilla and sigh as to what might've been.

This will be lame. Americans should never touch Gojira again.

Still, the overall feel of the movie was great; some of the musical score is classic (eg, G coming ashore; the children singing/praying in the wake of destruction). Even the b/w (which I bemoaned as a kid) adds a quality which would probably dissipate if they ever colorized it. But some scenes of G, or shots of the back of a Japanese actor's head while they were doing all the talking ("Burr shots" often took me out of the moment.

I liked the American version of Godzilla.

I've always liked Godzilla as well but I have to say that I liked the American version better in terms of design. Just seemed to move and look better moving.

Aside from the fact that this isn't a sequel or a continuation of 1998's Godzilla film in any way (the picture given more than clearly shows that), the stereotype of sequels never being as good as the original has long since faded beyond just the cinema medium. This has actually been apparent since possibly the mid 1990's. It was only ever given back a spark due to the likes of Michael Bay among others.

As a man who sat there and watched a Godzilla marathon on a sci-fi channel which took forever and a half because of all the damn commercial breaks.

I can honestly say. I want More Godzilla.

And if they really do make another one, Im going to be there, dressed in a rubber godzilla suit asking for tickets to the show.

im always down for a good monster movie. I cant wait for this, assuming they want to portray Godzilla as being GODZILLA. The only thing wrong with godzilla movies is that they're made in japan.

The news that a couple of the producers of the Godzilla remake wasn't met with an awful lot of interest, especially after it was revealed that the likes of Henry Cavill and Scoot McNairy are being considered for the lead human role. Well, things have today taken a far more serious turn as The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Legendary Pictures has sued Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Doug Davison over whether or not they are entitled to remain on the project. They have responded with an attempt to halt the production of the film with a temporary restraining order. Darabont needs to understand, no matter how you fry an egg, it's still gonna be a fried egg.

No matter how hard he tries not to be cliched...if there's a monster involved that terrorises a city, if there's people living in that city...than he's version is going to be just as cliched as every other Godzilla movie.

Pretty sure that they are going for the original look, I remember seeing concept art a while back.

Not much interested on Japanese movies

I wouldn't mind a more beefed up version of the traditional look.

After rewatching some of the old movies that look comes off as campy and obviously is the by product of a man in a suit.

Maybe a cross between Iguana and traditional would work.

Teaser trailer for the new film.

I jizzed more than Harry Plinkett after seeing this. I think the best thing was the Oppenheimer quote, which immediately shows that the filmmakers clearly understand Godzilla and the inspiration behind him. Even better was the design, which is virtually identical to the original sans cheap suit. Not to mention Walter White vs. Godzilla. Yeah, this is going to make the 98' version look like a cheap Asylum knockoff, not to mention do justice to the kaiju franchise and give Godzilla the big screen splendor he has always deserved.

Worse thing about the 98 version IMO was the terrible CGI. A nerdy scientist saying "That's a lot of fish", I can take with no problem. Godzilla being represented by special effects that look like they're from a Nintendo 64 game, no so much.

I get what your trying to get at there but your exaggerating things

the special effects for that Godzilla looked nothing like they're from a N64 game.

Okay, they weren't that bad. But they were still terrible. The Godzilla from the Doritos commercials looked more realistic.

Eh it was okay i've seen worst CGI, The Scorpion King in Mummy Returns.

I won't say it was the worst CGI ever, but we're talking about Godzilla here. He deserved the best CGI money could afford. It's not like they didn't have the technology at the time because the T-Rex from Jurassic Park looked massively more realistic and it came out roughly 5 years prior.

Wasn't it also a mixture of animaltronic's & CGI with the T-Rex and also including all the other dino's.

Yes it was. They could have used those same methods here.

Godzilla from Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack! was not only perhaps the best rubber suit Godzilla, but there were some swimming scenes where he was CGI, and it looked great.

Enough with the rubber suit. Like Superman's outside-underwear, this is a "tradition" that needs to go.

I would personally hate to see cgi killing off miniature models & animatronic creatures.

Actors reacting to a guy in a "rubber suit" is always more convincing to watch.

Yeah but those effects still hold up today. I don't think the Hulk should be conveyed on film in a practical manner but I do think that more filmmakers should use practical effects much more than they do. Just as CGI has improved, so has animatronics and make-up. When you combine CGI with practical effects properly you get can get something that looks amazing. Look at Pans labyrinth and hellboy.

The thing in the thing looked a lot better than the thing in the thing...and that's why you don't name a prequel of a movie the same damn thing!

I remember when I was around 6 or 7 and I'd watch monster marathons with Godzilla in this on halloween. I think I first saw it when I was around 5. Godzilla was like the titans or a dragon, but the scary thing was that he's in the modern day so it's easy to understand why he's scary (9/11).

I think that scene with the drop they are trying to poison him with that red smoke, if anyone has seen the original film that how the get him in the ocean. But this is even better, he's still in the city lingering around with any survivors demoralized under his shadow. Maybe they're just trying to break the clouds. It's fitting, Godzilla comes with his own storm and darkened sky, like the Chinese dragons.
