a few hours ago I was sent a website link from a friend. He said it was a girls gone wild wannabe site, www.thewildwildgirls.com. I normally don't open that sort of thing but my friend persuaded me that this wasn't your normal dancing girls site... because its hosted by a man who seems to be... Jerry O'Connell?!?!

And he was right...

The site included pictures and videos of Jerry O'Connell himself under the name Derrick dancing around with half naked girls. Upon further inspection of the welcome page I found a picture of what seemed to be a man wielding 2 large water soakers. That man appeared to be.. Eli Roth?!?!

Has anybody else seen www.thewildwildgirls.com and know what the deal is with it? I highly doubt Jerry O'Connell is having such a hard time in Hollywood that he's now trying to become the new Joe Francis... and somehow got Eli Roth involved.

thoughts/comments please!

I know what it is, I read an article about it on IMDB. It's a viral site for the upcoming Piranha 3-D movie. Wild Wild Girls is a Girls Gone Wild rip off sort of thing that appears in the movie (sort of like how Hollywood uses Oceanic Airlines in most movies involving airplanes being destroyed: don't have to pay to use the name, and most airlines don't like seeing that happen to their own planes anyway).

They just forgot the part where they're eventually supposed to mention it's all fictional and that it's a promotion for a movie. At least with those Why So Serious? sites for Dark Knight it was sort of a giveaway. This, not so much.

that totally makes sense. just watched the trailer for the movie, def for piranhas. apparently you can also access thewildwildgirls site through, in my opinion, the more appropriate titled url, dyingtogetwet.com. the movie looks pretty ridiculous... but in a kinda good way haha. What do you guys think of their promotional approach?

It could have been done a lot smarter. Like, I dunno, including more obvious references to the movie they're supposed to be advertising (the vast majority of which was filmed where I live, btw. Hell of a shot in the arm for the economy, especially since the production crew was nice enough to go out of their way to buy everything they could locally, from having banners printed from local shops to hiring local caterers). If they'd done it better, it might have been a smart approach, but considering even IMDB missed it until one of the readers sent in an email (they were tipped off by a small logo for the movie on a shirt or something, if memory serves), I'd say they're being a little TOO subtle and wasting money.

...and the act would be...what? Not like the topic starter was the first to be confused about the site.

true, i kinda feel like they blatantly wanted it to be very subtle. that is the point of viral marketing right, spread it through word of mouth? i did some reasearch and they already seem to be getting press on it.

heres one on worst previews.

this one i found on cinematical:

whether journalists like it or not, any press is good press...
